13 March 2010 - Had a great wrecking trip out on Flamer III with Colin Panny. The day started well with good weather and smooth seas but looked to be going bad when the first wreck we got to was netted. Luckily Colin had a plan B and took us to a wreck he hadn't fished this year which turned out to be loaded with Pollock and Ling. We ended up with about 40+ Pollock all caught on lures, most productive being rhubarb and custard sidewinders, pick of the day was a 19.5lb fish (picture on the site)caught by Antonio Comperetto from Bristol who threatened to kiss Colin for getting him a personal best - thankfully Colin beat a hasty retreat into the cabin at that point. Ian Pratt from Wales also landed a 16lb fish and Martin Watson from Andover on his first ever boat trip topped a 9 fish hall with a 13lb fish. Tide and wind prevented us putting baits down but at slack water the drift slowed enough for us to pick up a fair smattering of Ling on lures with the best running out at 26lb. I finsihed the day with 8 pollock to 14lb and a small ling (first of the year) my best catch this year.

Just had the first couple of trips wrecking for the new year out on Flamer III with Colin Penny out of Weymouth. Even though this was the first trip of the year Colin new what wroecks to try and put us on the fish straight away with multiple takes each drift right from the off. There were plenty of fish caught most well into double figures with the biggest at 16.5lb and a couple of the anglers had 9-10 fish a piece. We also lost a some really big fish diving from some 40 turns up straight back into the wreck. Can't say that any particular lure was working better than anyother fish were comming up on Jelly worms, Sidewinders, Redgills and Shads (I am sure one of the wrecks Colin put us on was sponsored by Weymouth Angling - I lost about 4 lures over it). From early indications it looks like it will be a good wrecking season on Flamer III this year.

Fished the annual Flamer species competition in aid of RNLI over the weekend. Despite the weather Colin managed to find the fish, overall we ended up with some 15 different species which given the weather was very good. Best part of the trip was a short spell fishing for Bass and Cod on the edge of the race where the fish were certainly up for it. We averaged 4 good Bass each before we got pushed off by the weather even managed a Cod for the skippers tea. I would strongly recommend any clubs thinking of booking species trips or competitions to book with Colin and for any individual anglers Colin runs a Friday species league with trips on at least one Friday a month, this is a good opportunity to fish with some good species anglers (including internationals). Checked out the calender and there are still a couple of places for the Oct, Nov and December trips for this years league if you facny a practice otherwise Colin also has the dates for next years league.

Just returned from a fantastic day's fishing with Colin. A dream forecast of virtually no wind and warm autumn sunshine, a good tide we optimistically headed for the banks. We enjoyed good sport with the flatties - 4 turbot in as many drifts to 8.5lbs. We then headed for another mark and I was lucky to connect with a 57lbs Sting Ray on plaice gear! After a "hairy" tussle in a strong tide my 25 year old 12 pound class rod just about held out. The fairly rare capture was returned to fight another day. Thanks Colin, a once in a lifetime experience and a day never to be forgotten. Regards, Nick Payne, Taw Green, Devon.

4 of us travelled down from London to join 4 other anglers in September. Two of our party had not fished at sea before. The skipper (and the other 4 anglers, led by Ray Wilson) were so accommodating, which led to both novices catching fish. One, Ollie Murray, managed to catch 7 different species, including turbot and brill. A fantastic day.

One of those “You-Should’ve-Been-There….” days to tee off those that weren’t! Beautiful weather, calm seas, good company and a skipper who takes you where the fish are (providing you don’t bump his boat with your sinkers!). Great variety too. Feathering for Mackerel bait first, followed by a couple of hours fun with the Black Bream (a boxful to nearly 2lbs) before adjourning to drift for flatties. This produced Brill to 5.5lbs, a lone Plaice (a nice 3-pounder) and even a Pollack with an identity crisis! But where were the Turbot? Colin kept the faith and said we would go home when we had six of them. The 6th one came up on the final drift of the day – spooky! Thanks for a memorable day Colin - 8 very happy anglers. See you again soon.

We were very lucky to get out at all on the Thursday as we squeezed in between 2 desperate days of weather on the Weds and Fri and in fact we only saw 2 other boats come out of Weymouth and our depleted attendance of 4 was perhapes indicative of weather conditions of late. However the skipper Colin gave us an opportunity to fish for plaice on the mussel beds shadding near the race and fishing for turbot and brill on the shambles. Nine different species were caught the prize fish being 3 brill to 5lb, turbot, plaice and cod an excellent day that showed the expertize of the skipper to the full.

I was lucky enough to join a club from Brighton at the last minute, what a great set of lads. Excellent day which produced some prize fish amongst the pouting and mackerel namely 6 brill the largest being 7lb a turbot and a 14lb cod. The skipper Colin was his normal attentive and humerous self.
