Would like to thank Colin for four great days fishing aboard Flamer IV last week. Despite some dodgy weather Colin put us on the fish and thanks to his hard work I was lucky enough to latch into some cracking fish including early bream, plenty of cod and pollack and personal best ling and bass on the same day. If you haven't fished on Flamer IV before I highly recommend you give Colin a ring

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Peter,as always it is a pleasure to have you on Flamer IV and seeing you catch good fish including Personal Bests.

19 May and another day out with Colin. This time we went looking for flatties starting with Plaice, and what a day!. The weather & wind were kind for once and the fishing can only be described as superb. Yet again, Colin came up trumps with another species PB for me having lost a much bigger fish on the first drop. (Sorry Colin!) At one stage all that could be heard all around the boat was "fish on" with Colin being kept busy netting, weighing and photographing fish. But... and there is alway a but, just when you think it can,t get any better, during a lull in proceedings, Colin produced a chocolate cake to die for made by his wife. With such great cooking like this at home, I now know why he walks to work!!. Rod on one hand, cake in the other and over 30 plaice + turbot to the boat can life get any better. Thanks Colin, you did it again

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Trevor, now the secrets out,Lovely Cake and Superb fishing on Flamer IV.

Sunday 19 Feb and the first wreck trip of the year having been blown off in early Jan . It was also Coliin,s first day after his holiday and the "master" proved yet again that he could find the fish for his crew with a number of species comimg to the boat including some very good pollack and ling. It is very noticeable that the same faces appear time and again to fish aboard Flamer. The reason is simple, when things don,t quite to plan, Colin always has something in reserve to ensure fish for his anglers and this is the mark of a great skipper and it it why me, and others keep returning.

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Trevor for your thanks and observations as you have and others have noticed I will always try my best for you all.

End of an Era - Friday the 2nd of December marked the last Friday Fishers League match of the 2011 league year and the last of the Friday Fishers league altogether. After many years it is a shame that this Weymouth tradition has ended but everything comes to an end and invariably is replaced by something new and invigorating (more on that later). First a note of thanks to Colin “Orang-utan” Penny for running the league for so long and for making it the enjoyable and competitive event it has been and a thank you to league members who’s rivalries and banter added a lot of additional spice to the matches. On the day we had a total of 14 different species – for a winter comp we had more summer species than winter including Mackerel, Garfish and Black Bream we also had a good catch of large Whiting with most anglers topping out on their ten fish limit in no time. So what of the future, Colin has already launched a flat fish league (spaces are going fast if you want to join) and has a number of interesting competitions lined up for 2012 including single species (Flatties, Bream, Pollock, Wrass etc.), normal species hunts, competitions against other Weymouth boats and some varied techniques e.g. Redgill, pirking and lure only competitions. So although the league has gone there is plenty more to look forward to in 2012.

August 15-19 saw the Flamer 1V angling festival where you could fish all or as many days as time would allow. Monday started with a new species for me with a red banded fish out of Portland. Colin,s ability to put his crews over fish and then deliver, came up trumps on Friday with a second in the form of a doulbe undulate ray band and PB. Colin has invested heavily in the new boat which gives his crews a comfortable ride with plenty of space. If you have not fished aboard Flamer 1V before, you should-- this is one top skipper.
