    Report on-board Piscary

After a bit of a slow week fishing wise, mainly catching lots and lots of smallish Black Bream and Congers, we did have 1 bonus Streaked Gurnard the second one this year.So it was great to get out on a absolutely stunning day with some of the Friday species league anglers, although Small Bream and Pout were a real hindrance to their efforts they still managed 23 species on the day. Plaice,Bass, Smoothound, Gurnards,Rays,Congers and Brill, nearly enough for everyone to add one to their species.
In the Piscary species hunt the boat tally still stands at 53 top 4 so far
    1st Ray Barron 40
    2nd Jay Hemming 38
    2nd Alan Bird 38
    4th Darren Phillips 37
There are spaces for individuals coming up on
Friday evening on the 22nd of August
    Monday the 1st September
Tuesday the 2nd both offshore trips hopefully.
Friday the 5th day and evening trips.

  • 18/08/2025 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

18 Aug 2025 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Since winning the Summer competition with Ivan Davy’s 23lb 6.5oz Cod we haven’t really had much to report to be honest.

A lot of the trips we’ve had booked since then have been cancelled for windy conditions.

On the trips we’ve have managed to squeeze in we have found a few fish here and there but no great shakes at all.
One trip down to the “Snake Pit” did produce a half decent picking one day but no red letter day for sure.

Yesterday’s trip however was a whole different kettle!!

My old mate Paul from Brid had had the boat booked for a long trip (14hrs)
since last year. Sadly he couldn’t make this one but the other guys were ok to join us on it.

Perfect forecast and conditions welcoming us which is exactly what we needed for our distance trip.

We sailed at 04.00hrs and steamed for two and a half hours to our first wreck, a smallish piece of scrap just short of 30 miles from shore. Nothing from it!
    Not a scale!!
Young Fergus said he didn’t like the area we had chosen and that we should have gone the other direction!

We moved East another few miles to a different sector and dropped on to a bigger wreck.
All rods were straight in to fish from the off and morale was instantly lifted!
    Shut up Fergus!!

It kept us going for about an hour and the lads had gathered a nice show of fish in their boxes.

Wreck *3 didn’t produce much at all as I couldn’t find it!! A new one I hadn’t been to before and won’t be trying again!
Our plotters and Ferg’s Navionics said it was there but wasn’t.

Anyway, off we trotted again to our next mark.
This wreck was absolutely littered with fish and we were over the moon with our efforts from it.

In total the lads took a nice 100lb of Cod each for the day with a few Ling thrown in (not many thankfully)
A few “treble hookers” brought up too on the multi hook baited rigs. The smaller throw back fish taking these.

No big fish amongst the catch with Dave’s Ling being the heaviest at around 11lb and best Cod going to Alan at around 8lb.

A cracking trip with the lads which I have to say is our best day of the year quantity wise.

Cheers Simon & Bill, Chris, Dave, Oscar and Alan.
    It was a real pleasure.

  • 17/08/2025 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

17 Aug 2025 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

We’ve managed a couple of days out recently after a week of big Spring tides. Friday was still on the large side with a 5.5m, but I had a group of lads who were still keen to have a go.

After a frustrating time collecting a few Mackerel, we had a couple of drifts on the three and five mile ground for very little return. Nudging out a bit further we had a few small Codling off the seven mile, but it was very hard going. We dropped back inside a couple of miles to try some wrecks around slack water. The first one saw us catch nothing and thankfully the second one we managed to get a few. Neil Swallow and my son Will had a couple of 5lb Codling, which lifted the spirits after a hard morning.

Once the tide was away we pushed out to the nine mile ground and spent the remainder of the day out there, taking odd fish here and there. It was hard work all day, but everyone persevered and kept at it.

Today the tides were down to 4.8m so a bit more manageable. We had an early start to get a go on a couple of inshore wrecks at slack water. The first was very quiet but we managed a few strap Ling off the second one.
With the tide away we tried the ground again, but I just got fed up with it. 3, 5 & 7 miles did a few small fish, but I couldn’t see things turning around, so put Plan B into action.

We pushed out twelve miles to have a go on an offshore wreck for a couple of hours. It was a high risk option, but thankfully there were a few fish at home when we got there. With the tide still running it was mainly 3-4 Codling a drift to the muppet bait traces. Once it eased a bit, the Ling came on the feed, and we took a few every drift.

Jamie Britton took the biggest of the day with a nice plump Ling of 16lb and Shane Ingram had the biggest Cod at 6lb. It turned out to be a good move in the end as everyone got a fish or two.

Thanks to all the lads who joined us; two great days of chat and laughs which I thoroughly enjoyed.

  • 14/08/2025 Fishing Report by Nick Gough on Skylark (Scarborough, North Yorkshire)

14 Aug 2025 by Nick Gough

    Report on-board Skylark

Started off fishing close to the harbour producing whiting and mackerel

Travelled further afield with the anglers catching a few codling, mackerel, whiting, pouting a tub gurnard (we haven't caught one since 2014).

After fishing for a few hours the tides started to build so we anchored up.

Which produced more cod, a nice 5lb Pollock, a 5lb ling, loads more pouting, mackerel and several lesser spotted dogfish

Wildlife we had several sightings of bottle nose dolphins passing by, the occasional seal and pretty much every sea bird which can be seen this time of year.

Overall today the 8hr trip we turned into a species hunt having a go in the sands aswel which we hardly do.

Overall the customers had 11 different species. The young lad on the trip managed 8 different species himself which is a very good effort.

    Overall the customers caught

cod, Pollock, ling, whiting, tub gurnard, mackerel, weaver, pouting, ballen wrasse, lesser spotted dogfish, and a dab

When we returned with the 8hr trip is was a swift swap over and back out again with a 3hr trip

As this pretty much followed on from the first trip catching mackerel, pouting, codling, and a cracking Pollock weighing 5lb 3oz

13 Aug 2025 by Nick Gough

    Report on-board Skylark

Today we had a 8hr and 3hr trip

We started off running a few miles and fished on the drift with tides coming onto slack water.

Fishing was steady away catching a few small codling, mackerel and pouting.

As the tide increased we dropped anchor which produced a good selection of better fish.

Best fish today was a cracking 8lb 14oz Pollock caught by Alan.

This fish is the new heaviest fish of the month so far.

    3hr trip
We started fishing some rock marks close to the harbour catching a selection of Whiting, mackerel, coalfish, and codling.

Overall everybody caught and had something to take home

    Report on-board DAWN TIDE II

    Hi guys

Well the exceptional bassing continues through August the lures & baits both working well with a mixed stamp of fish different each day local & offshore!

Lately there been a fair amount of fish coming over the rail around the 60-65cm with many anglers hitting there new PB twice in one trip!

The main focus for us now will be bass as the nights draw in & we start to venture further offshore.
As many of you know this signals the start of some of the best bassing you will ever experience just look back at my previous aug, sept, oct, nov reports its unreal

Along side the bass fishing we have seen plenty of hounds when we have bait fished along with the odd stingray, skate & tope.

But really & truly now we will be pushing further off now as much as the forcast allows until the season ends

Next availability is end oct start nov i just updated the calendar but keep An eye out for cancellations you never know it dose happen

Also next years diary is open & already filling

    Thanks everyone
    See you all soon
