    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Another windy day managed to keep inshore had a good day-to be honest. Best fish 14lb smoothound pregnant female returned our heaviest so far this season. Ended up with few thornbacks nice to see usual smoothounds doggies whiting and pouting. No bass but wasn't expecting in these weak tides. Big thanks to all lads for putting up with the testing weather despite that enjoyable day look forward to our June trip. Tight lines people.

  • 19/05/2025 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

19 May 2025 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

After a blustery weekend, it was looking touch and go for today. The winds were remaining in the North, but had reduced significantly and the residual swell was at around 4ft; but with a nice 4.7m tide I chose to bring the lads through and have a run out.

Once again we had a mixed group of differing experience levels aboard, we headed out North just before 0700hrs with the Flood tide pushing through nicely. If we could get away with it, I planned to spend the day on the inshore wrecks. A couple of weeks ago we had a fairly decent day in this area, so I had a similar plan in my mind. First wreck of the day, the wind was very light and we got a nice drift, with five fish coming up. That cheered me right up, as I was concerned that the weekend winds might have stirred things up a bit, but that wasn’t the case.

We fished away steadily for the next three quarters of an hour, taking mainly Codling each drift. Robert Blackburn took the biggest Codling at 6lb 8oz on a Rhubarb & Custard Shad baited with a bit of Squid. All the rest came to baited Hokkai’s or Muppets Traces. Once sport slowed down a bit, we pushed on to the next wreck and that was how the day panned out. Catch a few, sport slows up; move to the next wreck.

The wind did lift a bit during the morning, making the lines stream a touch, which made it a bit more difficult for the less experienced lads. That said, they soon got to grips with it and we continued to pick off fish each drift.
Slack water was fairly quiet today, the Pouting were feeding with a vengeance, but little else showed much interest. Martin Eccles hooked into something a little better when a 7lb Ling stuck its head out of the wreck to take his Squid. His Dad Keith followed it up with a similar size one a short while later.

Once the Ebb tide came through, the drift line changed and we started heading back towards Whitby. With a different drift line we could fish wrecks which matched the boats drift that we hadn’t fished in the morning and managed to keep picking up fish.

It wasn’t a Red Letter Day by any stretch, but everyone got a few and the sport was fairly consistent. Overall, the signs are positive. Good Angling lads

  • 11/05/2025 Fishing Report by Peter Mackintosh on Mistress (Tyne, Tyne and Wear)

11 May 2025 by Peter Mackintosh

    Report on-board Mistress

We set off out of the Tyne and headed for some hard ground. After a few drifts, taking mostly juvenile cod, the skipper headed for an inshore wreck as the tide was ebbing. There was an abundance of pouting stripping the hooks and a few just size codling.

Although the sun was out, there was a freezing easterly wind blowing, which made conditions difficult to fish. We hopped from wreck to wreck picking up the odd coddling here and there.

After slack water, the fishing picked up. We hit on a nice wreck, just after lunchtime and a better stamp of fish started to be landed, mostly in the 2/3lb mark but with some better ones around 5/6lb.

A sudden thump of a bite put a nice bend in the rod and yours truly, for once, managed to land a decent cod just shy of 11lb- pictured. When I checked its stomach, to see what it had been feeding on, out popped a small lobster, which a had not long been taken. One of the lads, Tony, managed to land a ling of around the 8 lb mark shortly after.

All the lads had a few canny few to fillet on the way home.

Hopefully, these horrible northerly and easterly winds will disappear soon and the mackerel will come in shore, as the water temperature increases and things will really get going. Early signs look positive for the season ahead.

    Tight lines.

  • 17/05/2025 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

17 May 2025 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

It was great to see some better hounds the other day. It was even better to share it with Stacey and the boys as well as our anglers. We had plenty of small bass and some small hounds with some decent ones in between. We even found a few rays too. We are lucky to have fish like this on our doorstep which meant we were able to get out and catch some decent fish while many others had to cancel. Sheltered marks like this are one of our biggest assets from brightlingsea and of course it helps that Galloper is a catamaran too.
The biggest hounds were pushing double figures and great sport fish obviously though a little big for Stanley. Lucky you there were some Stanley size ones there too.
The fishing really has kicked off here now and long may it continue. I have spaces for groups and individuals over the coming weeks so feel free to contact me.

    Report on-board Galloper

We continue to see some nice bass mixed in on our general trips as they stop spawning and start to feed hard. Together with smoothies and rays they make up our main targets at the moment. Of course there's still plenty of dogfish in between along with an unseasonal amount of whiting and dabs still showing.
There have been some decent hounds starting to show too which really know how to pull your string.
I'm looking forward to our first plaice trip of the year and we'll soon start our tope trips as well. If you want to join us for a general trip or something more specific then please get in touch and I'll offer you the most suitable tides for your trip.

  • 05/2025 Fishing Report by phillip browning on Braveheart II (Wallasea Island, Essex)

    May 2025 by phillip browning

    Report on-board Braveheart II

Some nice Bass coming over the rails on BRAVEHEARTII, the majority falling to worm baits, but for those who persevere with live whiting some bigger fish can be caught. A nice bass of around 8lb took a live whiting three other day but unfortunately the hook came out before it was close enough to net! That's why it's crucial to keep tight ....especially on bass. The tope have just moved onto the sands and even if we aren't specifically targeting them , I will put a sleeper rod out... and then wait!!!!
Thank you to all my customers for your continued support as always, and look forward to getting you all out, to enjoy a day's fishing and banter aboard BRAVEHEARTII
    Many thanks & tight lines
