  • 31/05/2025 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

31 May 2025 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

The last week aboard Sea Urchin has been primarily aimed at repainting the deck….

The preparation took far longer than I estimated, with the surface needing taking back to the original fibreglass before applying the new Flow Coat.
I got there in the end, but must say a big thanks to Dave Jenkins (Sea Spray Skipper), who gave me a lift with the sanding and my old mate Ian Kellock who measured out the Flow Coat mixes for me to paint. It really is appreciated lads.

Today we got a break in the weather and managed to have a run out. It was a 5.2m Spring tide which would mean a day spent on both wrecks and rough ground. With a group of experienced anglers aboard we planned to start on a patch of rough ground three miles out and then drop onto a couple of wrecks as soon as the tide allowed.

There appears to be a few more Mackerel kicking about now, as a couple of lads went in with feathers whilst most went with bait. After only a few minutes, strings of Mackerel started coming, so everyone had a go to gather a bit of fresh bait to compliment the Dirty Squid. With slack water being around 1030hrs we spent half an hour drifting some ridges and gullies, but the lines weren’t streaming away like I thought they might. That was good enough for me, so I moved to take us to a nearby wreck for a few drifts.

Everyone went down with either baited Hokkai’s or Muppet traces and thankfully there were a few fish at home. We spent the next ninety minutes or so picking up a few fish each drift. Codling were the mainstay with most in the 2-3lb range; a few around 4lb and Jeff Turner took the biggest at a very honest 9lb 12oz along with his first Octopus.

At slack water, a few strap Ling made an appearance along with the usual Pouting and once the Ebb tide got away we pushed out to the 5, 7 & 9 mile ground for the rest of the day. The rough ground didn’t fish anywhere as near as good as the two wrecks we tried. The five mile yielded mainly Haddock and Whiting with a couple of Codling, so we moved out to seven miles. We hit pockets of fish there and had a couple of occasions where five rods went in at once with nice sized Ling and Cod. I gambled with a move out to nine miles, which wasn’t good at all and sadly sport tailed off to end the day.

The weather wasn't bad at all. The company was excellent as always and everyone got a few to take home.

Thanks to everyone for coming along

  • 31/05/2025 Fishing Report by Nick Gough on Skylark (Scarborough, North Yorkshire)

31 May 2025 by Nick Gough

    Report on-board Skylark

Well what a 8hr trip we've had today

Non-stop fishing all morning with 4 or 5 rods in at the same time all catching cod.

Then it was steady away for the rest of the day

All Cod were a good stamp and really clean fish between 3 to 5lb with the odd better 6lb been caught.

Overall the lads boarded well over 100 size fish and Sam's dirty squid was certainly doing the business today. Quite a few wrasse and pouting also showing an appearance.

Best fish today was a Ling weighting 7lb 3oz

I definitely believe these customers will be back soon, It was their first time fishing with us today.

30 May 2025 by Barry Smith

    Report on-board Mary Ellen ll

Went out today on a good sea trip out Scarborough, on the Mary Ellen II. Skipper Lee Smith.
Hadn't been out on a charter for a couple of years, after being let down numerous times in the past, but I'm glad I took the bait on a post from Lee last week in a Facebook group

I was alone, but we went out with 7 friendly faces, (6 men and 1 woman!)
Despite a high tide of 5.7m this morning. We had a very succesfull day overall around the rough grounds near Filey.
Biggest of the day was a cod, just over 6lb, which I believe was caught by the youtube famous , Karl (h**ps://m.youtube.com/@karlpage8113)

For a spell. I was nicknamed the Wrasse man. After landing 3 in a row .

Lee was a great help, always helping any snags and tangles and of course helping us to land the fish. The boatman also clearly knew his stuff because we had at least a fish on every drop. It was good to speak to a chap out who was out his first ever boat trip, and was great to see him catch a fantastic pollock, gutted I didn't actually get a pic of his , Karl might have some pics on his channel later.

Despite having a good few different species caught, surprisingly no mackerel about yet , but we don't mind that when the cod, pollock and wrasse are happy to entertain.
I returned a few small codlings, many wrasse and brought one decent wee codling home for the table .

Really happy to get back out, will defo be back up at Scarborough for a days wrecking during the summer with Lee and Mary Ellen II, as I'm positive these guys will get me some more good days fishing .

If anyone has ever wanted to get out and try some sea fishing, you defo won't go wrong with this charter. Give them a shout in Scarborough.

    Tight lines all, thanks Lee

  • 30/05/2025 Fishing Report by Steve Green on Brigand (Brighton, East Sussex)

30 May 2025 by Steve Green

    Report on-board Brigand

We haven't done a lot of serious Bassing in the past, for no other reason than we have been tied up chasing Turbot through the Summer for the last 9 years and Bluefin Tuna of late...... however, with fish of this quality we're going to be doing a lot more of the same out of Brighton this year!
If bigger Bass on lures is your thing check out our calendar here for availability www.brigandcharters.com
You don't have to be an expert for this type of fishing, all but one onbaord today was a complete novice so it's perfect for new or developing anglers as well as those more experienced.

  • 05/2025 Fishing Report by phillip browning on Braveheart II (Wallasea Island, Essex)

    May 2025 by phillip browning

    Report on-board Braveheart II

We are seeing plenty of good bass over the rails of BRAVEHEARTII on the right tides, along with smoothounds, thornback rays and the smaller species, dabs, eels, sole, whiting, lsd's etc. And the first of the mackerel have started to show. We landed our first tope of the season last week, a small male around 9lb and had 2 dropped runs from much bigger fish, we will definitely be targeting them again in the near future.
The wind has been relentless in may but the beauty of our location is that we can always get you out in the sheltered waters of the river crouch which offers great fishing this time of year.
For booking please check out my schedule and calendar.

    Many thanks & tight lines

    Report on-board DAWN TIDE II

Sorry for lack of reports on here been super super busy

The Fishing has been great as of late nice &
Steady on the Hounds, Tope & Bass on the bottom baits

The Lure fishing is absolutely on fire at the moment with the bulk of our trip’s targeting Bass on the lures. To be honest Its not very hard to get the 2 fish limit within a few casts great sport & a good average

We Had the first strings of mackerel the other day too

My offshore exploration trips start now along with the Tope trips

My Evening lure & hound trips have started they prove to be very popular as I haven’t much availability until august now hence putting on the evening trips these give everyone a chance to get out while the fishing is good

    Contact 07523 488290 for availability

  • 29/05/2025 Fishing Report by Nick Gough on Skylark (Scarborough, North Yorkshire)

29 May 2025 by Nick Gough

    Report on-board Skylark

Out today with totally different weather to yesterday showers when the customers arrived on the boat. And a fresh south westerly blowing through not really picking the sea up much but a bit splashy in places

Overall everybody caught something to take home which is always a bonus the stamp of fish was alot better to yesterday's catch

Best fish today was a 7lb 3oz Pollock

Today baited feathers seamed to out fish the lures today possibly due to the conditions and stronger tide.
