    Report on-board Mistress

Today was a bit of an experimental trip. We had a go at fishing tight inshore with the view to bagging some pollock on our spinning outfits. Unfortunately when we got out, there was a bit of northerly swell in the water, colouring it inside.

S,o not to be deterred we had a go at something else instead, we used our spinning rods to collect some mackerel for bait and decided to anchor up in the soft to see if we could catch any rays.

They arent usually fished for here at Whitby, but to cut a long story short, we managed only one, a Spotted Ray around 2lb in weight, along with Dabs, Plaice, Tub Gurnard, Whitng and Lesser Weavers.

All in all a successful day

Another fantastic day to be at sea again, quite getting used to this summer weather!

We started the morning shad fishing around a wreck mark today, the tide was still belting through giving us a drift speed of around 1.8 knots. but we were still picking up codlings each drift.

As the tide eased we changed tactics to bait, full fillets of mackerel on heavy traces for Ling and any other big fish lurking down there!

The ling played ball, with us boating quite a few around the 7lb-10lb mark.
The biggest Ling went 15lb for 15 year old Ryan.
Mistress Regular Mark baited up with a Mackerel Flapper just as the tide got away and bagged a belting 18lb Cod.

Everyone onboard had a great day bagging plenty of fish for the table.

Pictured is Mark with his 18lb cod

Finally, it looks like the weather has broken and we are having some fine fishing weather.

Inshore we are still getting; Black Bream, Plaice, Dabs and Smooth-hounds. On the offshore wrecking we are still getting Cod, Pollack with the Congers and Black Bream just starting to show.

We still have some spaces available during the week and weekends, so if you fancy a trip while the weather is good, give Dave a call...

    Report on-board Discovery

Romiley Lib Fishing Club - 21st July 2012

We met the guys at the marina for 2am (Stupid 'O' Clock), for a 2:30am lock out. We locked out and headed offshore for the first mark of the day. We got to the mark and started to fish straight away. Almost immediately we had our first few fish of the day Cod. A few smaller ones were brought aboard which were in size, but the guys returned them. Then a nice knock and fight resulted in a nice 7lber. We decided to move to another mark to fish. Again small codling were brought aboard, with Pollack, Ling, Pouting, Poor Cod etc. Just as we were about to head to our smoothound mark, Micky hooked a nice 7lb 8oz Cod. With this in the bag we moved to the new mark. Baits were prepared and dropped over the side. It didnt take long for the first smoothie of the day to be landed. After this plenty more were brought aboard, aswell as other species. 15 Smoothies were landed in total to go with the dozen Cod we had caught.

Good day with a good bunch of lads, Plenty of Banter.

the hound fishing has been good this month with plenty of doubles coming in along with a fair number of bass
mainly medium size fish but a few nice doubles showing this should improve as we go into august/ september, the thonbacks are a bit patchy but if you find them still good numbers to be had , spottys are
bit of a pain at the mo in places , now lots of mackrel showing so not a bad bit of fishing out there to be had
    tight lines chris .

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Todays trip started with a strong tide leaving us little choice but to drift to find those patchy makerel in the deep water weres theres a bit of clarity, resulted in a few coming aboard. The forcast of light varible winds was totally wrong and a very strong southerly blew up making us head in to sheltered waters behind Scroby Turbines. Started well with a lovely double smoothound pair pictured here with husband and wife,Derek and Angela hooking almost at the same time, wont mention Angelas was bigger! One small bass to Ian nice to see and couple of flatties to add. Beaten again by the tide turning and the waves making things uncomfotable headed in to a Hemsby Hole for a few flats and tiny dogs, again having to move up to outer harbour to beat the waves! What a day! thanks to Derek for organizing,Angela,Dave Mills,Dave,Ian,Den,John, and newcomers Keith and Jack. Think we made the best of a bad day, well done to you all. Many thanks. Jon.

Sun 22nd July- Half day trip... left the quay for a tide trip and drifted a few marks for mackerel, very quiet this morning... very strange... spoke to some other local boats who have also had the same problem... However picked up a nice sea bass... Always worth the wait.
Full day trip- Steamed to our Tope spot and landed 3 nice Tope... Quieter day for us than usual. But still had some nice fish and lovely weather.
