The conger eel seem to keep coning or should I say straps up to 30lb but in good numbers with weather permitting usual bait and tackle supplied the smoothounds are showing now and skate all we need is the bass and we will be up and running

  • 04/03/2023 Fishing Report by Steve Green on Brigand (Brighton, East Sussex)

    Report on-board Brigand

First trip of what is going to be a very busy Season for us today. There is always a hint of trepidation when you haven’t been able to gather intelligence of what wrecks are fishing well and with around 2,000 to choose from off of our East Sussex coastline getting on the right ones, at the right time is absolutely critical.
In 7 years we have never failed to catch the target species on wrecks so we had a good idea where to find the better fish but you never know for sure! We needn’t have worried, we were soon into good fish and the tally kept growing and fish sizes improving throughout the day. Great to see so many fantastic early season fish in excellent condition and some nice doubles amongst them. Best of the day went to Ian that tipped the scales 14lb 6oz and a new PB - well done Ian.
Great to catch-up with some of our regular anglers and to also welcome aboard some other fine chaps new to fishing with us, we look forward to welcoming you aboard again.
We are going to be making the most of this wrecking for the next couple of months before hitting the Bream, Bass, Turbot & Brill so if you would like to join for more of the same drop is a line and we will hook you up.
Species today - Pollock, Coalfish, Gurnard, Whiting and of course no wrecking trip complete without the mighty Pouting!! Lost count of numbers but we were into the second big fish box which is always a good sign.
Thanks all who sailed with us today and well done on your catches.
    Best wishes

    Report on-board Kestrel warrior 6

Catch report for Sunday 29th January newhaven.

Please follow share and like us on Facebook

Sunday morning was abit warmer than Saturday
The wether overcast and damp. Wasn't looking nice for the day. So meeting up with Octavian and his crew we decided to head to sea. First starting a drift for some plaice heading west we see some signs of bait fish so we stopped and all went down having 3 novice's onboard I knew it wasn't going to be easy.

So after the first couple of hours we ended up with I think 2 dabs 1 plaice and a handful of wighting so we decided to head out ABIT further this didn't work out as we stopped catching the flaties moving back closer to the shore we picked up a flounder a plaice and a few more dabs making it abit more worth while at this point the sea had decided to pick up to 0.7 MTRS so we headed east to seaford bay . Fishing quite close to shore for this effort we ended up with 1more dab

All in all not brilliant but it was a day at sea

To book a trip please message me on Facebook
    Or call me on 07896471691
Plaice fishing trips £40 per person full day

When it comes to fishing in the winter knowledge is key
I learnt that from fishy rob out of Brighton.

With the tides being so big and the fishing being hard I knew I had to think out of the box. With that I put a crew together to go plaice fishing.

Not knowing what the outcome was going to be. In the morning I got the lads to meet up at #fortroadcafe for breakfast. Being that it was flat we was quite chilled on the time to set sail so we left at 9am quite a sivolised time. Heading out to sea I decided to tern left and headed out for an hour once we got to the mark what seemed like forever. We decided to anchor up fishing a standerd flatti rig with worm . As soon as we got there within seconds the first rod had gone with a double shot of plaice shortly followed with a few more. As the day went on the fishing started to drop off .

So with that I decided to move eaven closer to the beach .mind you we wasn't fish that far out to start with
After resetting the boat the fishing continued with some flounder's dabs and more plaice being caught

Total tally for the boat 23 plaice 17 keepers 2 Flounder and 15 dabs returned bringing us to over 40 flat fish for the day

On the way back out new team member James gutted all the fish with everyone tired and cold I knew my job was complete till the next time
