    Jan 2024 by Matt Forrester

I've not run any public charters since December 2023 and will start again properly in March 2024 but I have got out with friends and family several times in Jan 2024 and the fishing has been good with pollock to 15lb and bass to over 8lb being caught in just a few trips on the best weather days.
There are NO NETS ON THE WRECKS so it's looking like we could have a decent season with some bigger fish being caught!
Whilst I've been less busy onboard with helping clients etc I've been able to fish myself and get some great use out of my new JOKER jigs and lures. I've also created several videos and there up on my new utube channel so please take a look. There's some good fish and plenty of tips on Slow Pitch Jigging.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
    Thanks Matt

Join myself and crewman Malcolm Barker onboard SILVER HALO for the trip of a life time!

Once again, we're proud to be taking part in the official CEFAS CHART programme, in which we'll take small private groups of anglers, to catch, tag, measure and then carefully release, the iconic Atlantic Bluefin Tuna.

Full day trips will run various distances out from Torquay in South Devon, TQ1 2BJ, where we'll be targeting large numbers of the mightly fish.

We can offer these trips from late August 2023 right upto mid December 2023.

All the top quality tackle, tuition and help you'll need, will be happily provided.

Please message me for more details and of course, to get booked in.
    Many thanks Matt.

Fishing has been really good the last couple of months and I've found a good run of pollock to keep my clients busy while the bass slowly arrive.
Lures and jigs have been used to great effect and I've just too many pics to upload so I've just done a select few! Please see my facebook page and group for more regular updates and reports.
So I hope the pollock fishing remains a good option, but I'm also expecting larger numbers of bass to start holding on our inshore wrecks, allowing us to fish with lures, jigs and occasionally live baits a bit closer to home.
I've been using some new jigs and lures that have done really well and these are currently available onboard for my clients to purchase.
I also have good lure and SPJ rods and reels for clients to use, these are included in the charter price.
Silver Halo is affordable as a private charter so its worth considering that as an option.
Please see my availablity calander, the unspecified days are usually available for either individuals or complete boat charters.
    Many thanks Matt

6 May 2023 by Matt Forrester

So despite some pretty challenging conditions April was a good month onboard Silver Halo.
I managed 11 wrecking trips and with only small groups of between 2 and 4 anglers per trip, catches were reliable and numbers good. Best pollock went just over 16lb and most anglers had 15 to 20 fish a piece come the end of the day. A few cod were also caught but I'm expecting better numbers for May and also the bass will soon make apperance on wrecks in our area.
Most anglers have used lures (greens and whites being best) but there have been occasions where jigs have been used. The lighter winds and more settled months to come will see an increase in the use of jigs. Please get intouch if your interested in my charters, also please check my main website for heaps of info and some SPJ tips and tactics!!
    Many thanks Matt. 07970 176604

Please take a look, grab a coffee and have a read!
Any feedback would be much appreciated and of course I'm happy to answer what I can....bookings are open too.

So after a year out it's been good to get back to my boat Silver Halo and into the fishing in the UK.
Since being back I've been busy readying Silver Halo for her 5th coding and survey so much of March has mostly been work off the water, but now we're ready to fish and it's all down to the weather!
I've only managed to get out 3 times so far, fishing the wrecks with lures and jigs with mixed results but generally very positive overall.
We've had an amazing half dayer and two tougher full days, both with strong winds against tide, still some positive results with pollock to 18lb and cod to 7lb. Lots of smaller pollock are close to the 8lb mark but we've had a few bigger fish.
Most fish taken on the large green Sidewinder Skerries eels, other favourites have been the smaller 4" version, white and the black glitter Sidewinder sandeels. I also have a new set of jigs that I'm trailing over here and so far I've tried 2 patterns, 1 failed the test but 1 has passed with flying colours!! More time now needed to test the others.
Please keep an eye on my face book page and group for trip updates and short notice spaces, many thanks Matt.

    Jun 2020 by Matt Forrester

SINCE COVID 19 LOCKDOWN HAS BEEN RELAXED.

Since the slight relaxing of lockdown at the end of May I have run a few trips with just one angler.
The wrecking (drifting with lures) has been mostly very good but as usual, a few slow hours here and there inevitable.
Best pollock has been 12lb with loads in the 6 to 8lb mark. Best cod was 11lb with many around the 4 to 6lb mark. Bass are also now starting to show.

From today (1st of June) under the newer and still strict covid 19 guidelines, I'm able to offer trips for upto 3 individuals or upto 4 members of the same house hold.

I ask for passengers to provide an email address so I can send my guidance notes over. These explain what is required onboard and are for everyone's benefit.

My complete boat costs are needed to be set at the normal charge of £450.00 for a full 9 hour, medium range trip which will cover up to 50 miles. I'm happy to run a bit over this if required.
I can also offer 5 hour complete boat charters for £350 and 7 hour for £400.
Please note this is a premium charter with more space and less lines in the water.
My overheads and running costs are still full price and I've still not recieved a penny in aid from the government or local council!!!
Please get intouch if interested, we have some good fishing right now and I'm happy to help.
I appreciate your support in these difficult times, all the best Matt Forrester, skipper and owner.

25 Jan 2020 by Matt Forrester

Now just a few weeks into the New Year fishing has started well for 2020.
The cold spell weve just had has cooled off the water abit and we have seen a steady and very welcome run of fresh pollock coming in.
Although Ive only been running medium range trips my cleints have had several double figure fish and quite a few big ones have been lost into the wrecks. Bites on lures are often fussy but persitance has paid off. On occasion we have had some big bangs to the lure but no hook up, we were a little puzzled by this and I expected it may of been large bass swiping the lure with the side of their gill cover to stun the escaping bait. This may of been proved correct as on the last trip we had a 10.8lb bass on the same wreck!
Im feeling positive that we will have more new fish arriving all the time and this could provide some great sport, not just for the classic Feb and March but right through the summer! Fingers crossed.
    Tight lines and thanks Matt
