Fishing Report by Allan Skinner

at last a nice settled spell of weather, what a diffrence a nice flat sunny day makes.we headed out the peirs about 7.45 out to a lovely flat sea.
out to the first wreck and picked up cod and ling from the off as well as a steady supply of mackrel which was used as bait. picked away steady all day with 4inch blue shads and baited daylites [mackrel bait ]. both working equally as good , however as the day wore on bait seemed to have the edge.
about mid afternoon with several double figured ling and cod aboard. we steamed to the next wreck with slack water not far off, anticapation was high.
well we wernt disappointed. first drop paul didnt even touch bottom when he shouted ive got something good on, he had to let his star drag off a bit as the fish constantly made dives back to the wreck.and a canny bit later you could see a huge white shape in the crystal clean water some 50 plus feet down.
up pop a cracking cod, which took the scales over 31 and a half pounds.right round again. next drop again 4-5 rods straight into fish again and paul saying another goodin, bot probaly not quite as good. a very canny 18 pounds ling. and to top it all on the third drift another ling over 12 pounds.3 canny fish on 3 drifts.
all in all a very good day with a good few double figure cod and ling landed -

sunday 3rd april
today was another nice spring like day.the first wreck was about 7 miles out. and produced only a couple of cod 3-4lbs.
so we pushed futher on the next wrecks again fished steady with 1 or 2 fish per drift. mainly cod upto 8lbs. with ling on the mackrel and squid baits.one lad having crab was having more sucess with a fish every drift till he ran out of crab.
again the futher we got out the cleaner the water was and the shads kicked in.
all in all a steady day with most anglers averaging 6 to 8 fish each.
picture colin [duck ] donlley ling 11.5lbs

wed 30th march
well although its still early season fishing when the weather has allowed has been good. 5 lads over from preston had around 35 fish.about 25 cod and 10 ling. with the cod upto 8lbs and the ling just under 10lbs.with squid and mackrel baits working well for both cod and ling more so the ling.
as we ventured futher offshore the shads became more and more effective, and it was 50/50 between bait and shads.
all in all an enjoyable day. and as weather and conditions are improving the fishing will only get better and better. -

weather has been so unpredictable laterly. had to scrape ice off my car and the boat minus 2 degrees crazy for middle of may.
set off at about 7.30 just cleared the peirs and straight into a shower of large hailstones that actually hurt when they hit you.
turned south the sea had a bit of northerly roll on but not to bad once the hailstones passed. twenty minutes to the first wreck.
down went the rods. first off a cod of about 4lbs to a chrome jigger an one pouting to bait [suid]
around again 2 ling again on squid 4/5 lbs each. nothing next 2 drifts. away to next wreck. simalar pattern but a fish or 2 every drift with cod to 8lbs an ling to 9lbs. the next wreck was the same steady a fish or so each drift.
fishing was steady away until after dinner when the tide changed an the drift speeded up and only occasional fish being taken. for about 2 hrs
but later the wind eased [an warmed up] and the fish came on again.
so all in all a reasonable day with about 45 fish mainly in th 4-6lbs range
