Unbelievably crappy weather for this years Spring competition which started last weekend. We managed to get last Saturday, Sunday & Monday sailing on some lovely "flat calmers"
Since then, nothing but Easterlys with no-one moving anywhere.

We managed a couple of daily prize winners last weekend. A 1st and a 2nd which was ok. Both winners were pollack. One just over 7 lb caught by Adrian Smethurst from Huddersfield and the other just over 8lb caught by Tony Kingsley from Morcambe.

We are attempting tomorrow and hopefully we'll come across something to take over the leading fish which is a ling around 11 lbs .

We still have room on a couple of days next week and will sail with just 4 anglers.

    Tony Kingsley is pictured inset.

    Tight lines

Tried a couple of inshore marks to start the day just in case things had changed for the better, but sadly the water was still very cloudy. A couple of drifts for nothing and straight away the lads were all agreeing that the move to our "old faithful" bit of ground offshore was in order.

We set off and arrived at the grounds around 9.0 am and again were straight in to the fish. Nothing in double figures on the day but enough fish for everyone's table.

Father and son team and first time on the sea, Simon & Dan ended up with around 10 fish between them. The best codling of the day going to Rick (Dolf) from Hull at 8 lb.

The water certainly clearing nicely out on the more distant ground marks with a good few fish falling to the artificials.

    Rick is pictured.

The Spring competition starts very soon on April 7th. We still have some days with room. If you fancy having a go for the £1000.00 1st cash prize, give me a ring on any of the numbers below or drop me a mail.

A mixed group of lads aboard the boat last Sunday from as far afield as Birmingham to Burnley.

After the days fishing before we decided that we were going straight back to the offshore marks and save some time. We started fishing around 9.0 am after a couple of hours steam and on arrival we were straight into fish.
"Sammy" the bull seal decided that he would join us and start pinching fish from our lines which was so annoying. Several pinched fish later we moved a mile or so up the ground and found another steady fishing. Like a few trips ago, he followed us up and down the drift spoiling the fishing for the rest of the day. We did end up with a half decent show but the fish that stood out from all the others was a cracking whiting which touched 2 lb 14 oz.

Orimus from Birmingham taking the whiting and pictured inset.

Sad to say that the big Easterly blow we had 2 or 3 weeks ago is still taking its toll on the fishing here at Whitby.

We are having to travel the distance at the moment to find the clearer water and to stand a chance of getting the lads a picking of fish.

Tom Laing and some of his mates chartered the boat last Saturday and after dropping on a couple of spots fairly local, for nothing, we steamed out to the place that nearly always saves the day. A strip of ground well offshore that doesn't get touched that often. The fishing there wasn't exceptional but compared to what was being caught elsewhere inside us we didn't do too bad, all things considered. Only codlings to around 5 lbs but everyone taking a few fish home for the table. Lovely weather helping the day and with more sightings of dolphins all in all a very nice day.

Cheers and tight lines as ever.

George Ho and his mates joined us on Tuesday for what was to be the last day at sea for a while looking at the horrible weather that is on the way again!!

We started out on a couple of wrecks which to be honest, I expected to produce, as I knew that they hadn't been touched for a good while.
How wrong could I have been. Three fish off the 1st one and the same off the 2nd one. I can't believe there weren't more fish down there and am putting it down to the water being horrible down below still, after the big blow from the other week. That's my professional excuse anyway!!

We moved from that area to a patch of ground about 7 miles South as we had been out on a bit of a limb and we were able to save the day for the lads with around 40 fish between them. Codling to about 6 lbs and Ling to 5 lbs were the best fish of the day.

George and the lads are booked on again in the Spring competition in a couple of weeks so we'll be trying as hard as ever as always to try find them a winning fish.

Cheers for now & tight lines
    Rich.

    11.03.18.

After picking away on the wrecks last Friday we all agreed that a run out to the "Wall" was in order for a change yesterday. Nobody had been out there for quite some time so there was a reasonable chance that there would be a days fishing there for us. The conditions were absolutely perfect for a cruise well offshore with glassy calm seas.

As soon as we arrived and dropped in the rods were bouncing all around the boat. The fish had gathered up there nicely and were feeding well in a fairly big feed mark we had found. Third drift in and up popped a seal, and then another which slowed things up a lot!

We then started playing a cat and mouse game up and down the ground, trying to keep away from them! Every time we were clear of them we dropped on the fish. They would follow us and we would move again! It went on all day long. Quite comical really.

Over the course of the day we saw a good number of "doubles" landed and one of the team, Dan managed a "treble" too which was great. All these were caught on the baited Hokkai rigs. Total tally for the day was around 80 fish. Again, nothing big at all with the best fish maybe a shade over 6 lbs.

We did have a fantastic day with the wildlife sightings too. At 11 am we were visited by a pod of 8 Dolphins leaping and jumping around! What a fantastic sight for this time of year! But the best thing we saw was a Porbeagle shark which circled the boat for about 5 minutes. A big fish too which I reckon was a good 8 ft long and would be in excess of 300 lbs. I have to say that was a very rare sight for this time of year. Food for thought for next year. Might just have a go for them a bit earlier in 2019!

Available dates in this years Spring competition which starts on April 7th till April 22nd. We still have room on the weekend dates and also midweek and as always individuals are most welcome to join us at any time.

A nice top cash prize of £1000.00 up for grabs with various other daily prizes.

    Cheers and tight lines

Managed a run off last Friday with a mixed group of lads.

After the recent "Beast from the East" weather which lasted over a week we figured that the colour of the water was probably going to be poor. We had a couple of drops on the 9 mile to start, just to see if things were any good but sadly they weren't!! After several more drops there for nothing we decided to have a run out to try a bit of scrap further off shore to see if it was clearer.

The next drop was on a wreck around 17 miles off and straight away we were on the action. Steady fishing for around 2 hours produced around 50 fish with the best fish being a pollack of 9 lb 7 oz. No big Cod showing at all at the moment. The best Cod on the day going around 5 lbs. Fish were boated on the artificials and the baited rigs too. A nice day weather wise and a nice days sport too.

Rich Horobrov is pictured with a nice Pollack just short of double figures, best fish of the day.

The Spring competition is starting here at Whitby on April 7th and runs for 2 weeks until April 22nd. We still have room in the 1st event of the year here at Whitby. If you fancy your luck give e ring or mail me to make any bookings and as always individuals are very welcome indeed.

    Cheers

Had a run off yesterday after a short break away. Wasn't sure what to expect as the weather hasn't really been that good for offshore work.

Regular Shy-Torque angler Bill Barraclough from Barnsley joined us with a couple of others, Matt and John from Mersyside.

A run out to a couple of mid distance wrecks proved to be great for us all. The fish were flying aboard at one point and Bill managed a couple of "doublers" and even a treble!! He fished the bait all day and ended up with around 20 fish himself!

With the water as clear as gin and alive with sprats, this made the shad and sidewinder fishing terrific as well. I personally had nearly 30 Cod myself, all taken on the artificials. Great sport especially for the time of year.

The lads are pictured with some of their haul!

We have a few days coming up shortly with individuals booked on so if you fancy joining them check out the calendar and give me a ring.

The competition dates for anyone who doesn't have them yet are as follows :-

    Spring comp :- April 7th - 22nd inc.
    Summer :- June 23rd - July 15th Inc.
    Late Summer :- Sept 15th - 30th inc.

There is still availability in all the competitions but the Summer one is starting to get a fair bit of interest as usual.
We only have 5 days left in the Summer comp where the boat is empty, so if you were wanting a club booking check out the calendar for those.
As always we are taking lots of individual bookings so there a good number of days where you can join others on the boat too.

    Hi all,

The boat has been out of the water this last 7 days.

She has just undergone her 1st out of water check over, antifouling and polish and all is good.

I'd like to thank my good mates Guy Wrightson, Rich Simpson, Craig Simmonds, Nigel Hall, John Wilford and my lovely partner Val Walker for all their help over the last weekend.

The calendar is fully up to date for you all. Bookings in the Summer competition are starting to go a bit quicker now so if you fancy a go in it drop me a line on here or any of the numbers.

    Tight lines as ever
