After the last week of strong Northerly winds here at Whitby we were fully expecting that the uptiding (inshore anchor fishing) would be very good indeed and we weren't wrong!!

We had bookings for the boat over the weekend and Monday, but sadly we missed the days due to a strong wind warning from the NW which never came (so annoying!!!) We did however manage to get the lads away on Tuesday and what a day they had.
Steady fishing right from the off in "Sandsend" corner working in the shallows (60ft of water) Great sport all day for the lads with the majority of the fish coming up on the squid and lug worm. The crab cart attracted a few fish but not as many as the other baits. Every day is different inshore just as it is when working offshore which is why it's always good to have a varied selection of baits.
Great banter, Hot tea & coffee flowing all day with lovely weather too. Perfect.

Ben Kitchingman landed the best fish of the day. A lovely cod of 8 lbs. When he was told it would have won the recent competition here at Whitby and £1000.00 he nearly fell over!! His Dad Dave landing the most fish with around 30 fish himself!

We have a few dates still free on the lead up to Xmas when the boat is empty and if you fancy an inshore trip I will sail with just 2. Booking calendar fully updated at all times.

We also have a few dates with lads already booked on.
    They are :-
Mon 18th Dec (Room for 7) Offshore trip.
Wed 20th Dec (Room for 6) Offshore trip.
Thur 21st Dec (Room for 2) Offshore trip.
    Individuals very welcome as always.

Tuesdays lads are pictured with some of their catch.

Still stacks of fish showing on both the offshore and inshore marks here at Whitby.

The back end of last week was a little inclement but because the fish are so plentiful we were hitting them as soon as we were touching the bottom. A lovely selection of Cod and Pollack on the ground and nearly all the fish taken on the shads and sidewinders. Any colour doing the business. Bait also taking a few fish.

If you fancy a trip with us either inshore at anchor or on the offshore wrecks and ground, give me a call on 07733 233352. We will sail with just 2 anglers on the anchor trips and 4 anglers on the offshore trips. Free tea, coffee and biscuits all day on the inshore anchor trips.

Fridays team are pictured with some of their fish. The boat will continue work throughout the winter including the Xmas period.

    All the best

Still some good fishing to be had here at Whitby, both inshore and offshore.

Our last trip off last week produced a good amount of both Cod and Ling for the mixed group aboard.

Jez Lester having his best catch anywhere he's been so far with a total of 11 fish. the rest of the lads averaged the same if not a few more than that. The ground on the 9 mile producing a nice few fish but the majority coming from a wreck 13 miles from Whitby.

Bill, Peter, John, Simon and Jez are pictured with a few of their catch. Good company and good sport too!

Nice to see it's still fishing after the couple of nasty Northerly's we've just had here.

The boat is working right through the winter this year so if you fancy a run off with us just give me a ring.

Some cracking fishing at Whitby at the moment, both inshore and offshore.

The wrecks and grounds are fishing around the 9 mile areas as are the more offshore areas around the 18 and 20 mile marks. The "Wall" is as ever, at this time of year, producing the goods too.

The areas inside for the uptiding (anchor fishing) are producing too and we will sail with just 2 anglers on those trips. There are a good few dates with availability for individuals as well as empty boat availability too.

If you fancy a trip over the next few weeks leading up to Xmas give me a ring on the usual numbers :-

    06.11.17.

First uptiding trip of 2017 for the Shy-Torque on Monday. Fishing was steady all day for Dave, Arthur and Roy.

The lads boated some 70+ fish for the day. They returned 25 or so of their catch which were takeable but only just on the measure. The rest of the catch were anything from 2 lb to Arthur's heaviest at around 6 lb.
A great days sport for the lads and good conditions too. Sorry for forgetting the sugar this time Arthur!! It will be on board for your next trip. Promise!!

Have a look on the calendar if you fancy an inshore trip at anchor.

A complete reversal on the forecasts yesterday for us. Lovely calm weather to start the day with an increasing WNW predicted for the afternoon.
We left the harbour at 7.15 am and with conditions being perfect we opted for a run offshore to a couple of marks on the 20 + mile.
I knew that these marks hadn't been touched for a good few weeks so hopefully we were in with a chance of a few. The lads armed themselves with bait traces and immediately were were among the fish from the off. Great for everyone as every fish that came up on the 1st drift were Cod too! This continued for a good 3 hours and with a few doubles and even trebles coming up the fish boxes were soon starting to look very healthy indeed. We never moved from the 1st mark either which was a proper bonus! Numbers at the end would be well over 100 cod and 15 - 20 Ling too. No monsters taken, but our lady angler Janine Potts from Leeds had the heaviest of the day, a nice Ling of 9 lb 2 oz. No Cod above 7 lb on the trip but most around the 5-6 lb mark.
Unfortunately the breeze did arrive just after slack water and we decided that we all had enough fish and we made for port where I would fillet everything down for the lads (and lass!)
The offshore Cod fishing can very often be great at this time of year and through the winter months too.
The group are pictured with a few of their catch.
    Tight lines as ever....

Yet another fresh NW breeze welcomed us again yesterday here at Whitby, but as of late the forecast was to drop away all day long which thankfully it did. By 10am conditions for the offshore marks were good with a steady 10 mph Westerly breeze.

Tony Porter and his mates from Stoke on Trent joined us yesterday. The majority of the group were relatively new to the sea angling scene but were all well experienced fresh water anglers. With a little guidance and support we sharp had them knocking the fish out. The entire catch yesterday was caught on the bait. The best bait being squid again.

A good mixture of Cod and Ling for the lads. The best falling to the organiser Tony, a lovely Ling of 16 lb 15 oz.
Lithuanian Ricardas, "Dolf" managed the second heaviest of the day, another fine Ling of 16 lb 1 oz.

Tony and the lads are due to fish with us again in about 3 weeks. Lets hope for some more great fishing then lads.

"Dolf" and Tony are pictured with the 2 best of the day.

    Cheers and tight lines

The last day off for the Shy-Torque was on Friday. We had a regular crew of well seasoned anglers on board who were happy to give it a go on what was something of a 50/50 forecast but was always a decreasing one.

The morning greeted us with a bit of a NW breeze, but nothing we hadn't all put away before and once we had got in to the deeper waters a couple of miles behind the bell bouy, the conditions were getting better all the time.

We pushed out to the 7 mile reefs to start the day where the lads managed around 10 or so fish in the first half hour or so. We then decided to move out to the 9 mile reefs and found the fishing to be much better . In total for the day the group of 6 managed a combined 60 plus fish. Another mixed selection with cod to 7lb and ling to a shade under 13lbs. Pat Armstrong from Cayton Bay just south of Whitby landing the heaviest fish of ther day.

The very happy crew are pictured.

LOOK LOOK The Shy-Torque will be doing "UPTIDING" trips or (inshore trips at anchor) this year over the winter months on the bigger tides. The price per angler will be £35.00 for the day and this includes hot drinks all day on every trip. Don't forget we have the only boat in Whitby with a heated anglers cabin where everyone can be seated if needs be, on those colder days!!!
We will sail with a minimum of 2 anglers and a maximum of 6 anglers on these trips.

The boat will of course still be available for the offshore trips too.

    26.10.2017.

Yesterday's group enjoyed a days rough ground fishing on the 9 mile boating around 70 fish between themselves. Plenty of different species boated. Lots of nice filleted fish for one and all for the table. Nothing big on this trip, the best going around 7lbs. Thanks to my lad Adam for filleting it all on the way back to port.
Jim, Stuart, Bill, John, my lad Adam and Bill Barraclough pictured.

The boat operates all year round, weekdays and weekends and we will sail with a minimum of 3 anglers at this time of year.
