    17.09.2017.

The late Summer angling competition finished today at Whitby.

Sadly none of the boats moved at all this last week due to the constant crappy Northerly breeze we had with us. The competition was effectively won last Sunday with a lovely Ling of 19 lb 4 oz caught by Mathew Weatherhead from Wetherby North Yorks fishing aboard the Shy-Torque III.
Mathew had fished the previous weekend too but didn't manage anything of any size.

Prior to Mathew's winning fish the competition was being led by Simon Wong from Manchester with another fine Ling of 17 lb 7 oz also boated on the Shy-Torque III (pics in the gallery)

I'd like to thank everyone who fished with us in this years event and hopefully we will see you all again soon.

I would also like to thank our sponsors for the late Summer competition, Focus Training and Mr. Chips.

As ever we will be working right through the winter and we still have room on some of the weekends. Check the calendar for availability. We will sail with just 3 anglers. The latter end months can very often fish as well, if not better than the Summer months here at Whitby.

    09.09.2017.

Day 8 of the September angling competition here at Whitby saw some quality fish boated on the Shy-Torque.

With the last couple of trips proving very hard on these huge Springs I decided that a trip out to the grounds at the back of the 20 mile was probably the best idea to try and escape the strength of the tide.

The ground didn't produce a great deal of fish numbers wise but we did manage yet another fine daily winner with a cracking Ling of 19lb 04 oz caught by Mathew Weatherhead from Wetherby.

Mathew took 1st daily prize and is currently leading the competition. Simon Wong was previously leading with his 17 lb 7 oz Ling also caught on the Shy-Torque.

    Mathew is pictured inset.

We have room on the boat next Tuesday and Wednesday.

The late Summer angling competition started here at Whitby last Saturday and there have been a few decent fish landed to press.
The Shy-Torque anglers are having something of a Ling fest at present with some good strong fish being boated. A few other species too but with there being so much feed in the water at present the cod have become something of a rarity!! They will be back once the feed disappears.
George Ho and his mates from Manchester joined us the other day and had a reasonable days fishing. Again, they were nearly all Ling boated, but we did manage one of 17 lb 7 oz which is currently leading the competition. Simon Wong was the captor and is pictured.
The tides start falling again next week and by Wednesday they are at a good size to start wreck fishing again properly.
We have space on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
    Cheers
    Rich.

At last something to report after 5 trips out of Whitby this year.Fish the late Whitby competition yesterday. 7 on board, rich boat (shy-torque ) slow for the mackerels at first for bait then sail out for the hunting grounds 18 miles out. First wreck few small ling plus odd pollock and coley etc. Second wreck small results but the current was too strong so couldn't hold baits down for intended prize fish. Moved to other then mackerels show up by the thousands!! With that 5 of us fish for them to fill our cool boxes leaving two on the back fishing for the big stuff and BINGO. Our man Simon with best ling of the day and best fish so far in the coming competition. Weight 17lbs plus so not a big fish to beat by all means.. like the old chinaman says... "you ave to be in to win"

Mixed fortunes over the last week or so what with the massive Spring tides.

We know the fish are there but with the combination of tide speed and the amount of feed that is currently in the water the little devils have been quite hard to come by of late. Millions of Mackerel however, so if that's your passion then bring a nice cool box with ice !! Our Adam (my son) will gladly process them for you for a bob or two.

Yesterday didn't fish too bad overall with around 35 white fish on board to around the 8 lb 8oz mark and again, millions of Mackerel !!

The tides this week are a lot easier so hopefully we will see a bit of an improvement again with the numbers of white fish.

    Regards to all.

Some lovely, good quality fish showing up for some of the lads on the last few trips on the Shy-Torque III

The ground has been fishing fairly well with some good sized ling appearing with weights to just over 14 lbs. These bigger fish coming from the ground just 3 miles from shore. Plenty of fishing time when we work so close to home!!

A few of days ago we had to work very close to shore on a corporate day trip with a group of lads from Smiths Contractors from Huddersfield and Leeds. The wind was too fresh to venture offshore and we found ourselves fishing some 500 yards from the shore at one point !! The lads and lass pulled a few nice codling up on the baited Hokkais and a load of mackerel and were very happy with their day.

On the days we have managed to venture further afield we have been seeing catches of 70 plus fish on board plus loads of mackerel too.

Late Summer competition starts 2nd September. Some places left.

    Hi all,

Been a while since we reported what with the summer competition being on and also me taking a well earned break to Cornwall with my partner.

The fishing has been so up and down this year it really is crazy! A few days at sea with some fairly good catches followed by some poor weather days and some poor catches. All in all, the same as ever then I guess!!

The summer competition went well for the Shy-Torque anglers with a good number of daily prize winners across the 3 week event. Brian Robinson fished with us and held the top place for nearly a fortnight with a lovely ling of 15lb 4oz. It was finally beaten by 2 heavier fish at the end. His fish did however win him an equal 3rd place prize of £375.00 so a very well done to him for that. A big congratulations to my mate Paul on Trot On for getting the winning fish again this year!

There have been a good number of species caught this last couple of weeks. The one that is missing for us this year sadly is the porbeagle. We have had them on on 4 occasions but each fish has slipped us!! Luck on the day I guess.

Some lovely additions to the Shy-Torque picture gallery here on CBUK so have a browse.

The September competition is approaching fast now with just over 2 weeks to go. We still have some room left so if you fancy a bash please give me a call on any of the contact numbers or drop me a mail.

The picture inset is my nephew Ben and some of his mates who fished with us today. They had a great days fishing gathering some 70 fish or so white fish with an additional 150 mackerel!! Best fish fell to Ben on the last drop. A lovely cod of 12 lbs taken on a strip of fresh mackerel. Ben is 2nd from the right next to my son Adam.

Cheers and tight lines to one and all.

Some great fishing this last few trips for all the teams who joined us on the Shy-Torque III.

The weather has been unreal with glassy calm and clear waters making the fishing relatively easy for all concerned. Perfect drift fishing, plumb vertical lines and some cracking fish.

The top angler this week was Paul Cookson from Bolton in Lancashire. He had some 20 fish himself yesterday with a mixture of cod and ling. His lad Lee boating the best fish on board with a ling just shy of a stone in weight (14lb)

We have also done a couple of sharking trips this last week with shark on on both trips. Sadly all the shark we had on the line managed the escape. So very annoying, but at least we know that there are a good number out there for us this year to keep trying for. If you fancy a go for the big boys give me ring.

Bob Ellis from Focus Training Ltd who sponsors some of the Charter Skippers competitions here at Whitby joined us on Monday this week for his first ever sharking mission. He had 2 shark on during the morning. One of them leading him a merry dance around the boat for over half an hour before spitting the hook. Bob said it was an unbelievable feeling but also extreemley tiring!!

We always manage to do some bottom fishing whilst we are on the sharking trips and Bob's best fish was a lovely cod of 11 lbs He, his son Sam and friend Richard managed a good show of both cod and ling on the
    trip.

    Bob is pictured inset.

If you fancy a go in this years Summer competition which starts soon on the 1st July, we do still have some
    places left.
Give me a call on my direct number 07733 233352 or home 01947 603472 or mail me on richardward384@yahoo,co.uk. There are some great cash prizes again this year with the top prize being a massive £5000.00 in cash!!! Fishing is a lottery so come and have a go!!!

    Tight lines as ever,

Yesterdays 8 hour trip went very well indeed with the lads getting amongst the bigger cod at last.

One of my favourite wrecks 16 miles East of Whitby fished quite well producing cod to 13lbs.

Nearly all the fish on board were taken on the shad, indicating now that the water is properly cleared out at last.

Chris Beaton who is originally from Cloughton in Scarborough but now lives in Australia is pictured with the best of the day at 13lbs.

Some room left next week on Wednesday and Thursday lads, so if you fancy a trip my number direct is 07733 233352. I will sail with just 3 anglers minimum. The forecast is looking very good indeed !!!

    Tight lines
    Rich
