The last week here at Whitby has seen very mixed fortunes for our anglers.

Some days we have scratted around for very little indeed. Other days we have found a few. We are reckoning that this is due to the amount of feed in the water at present (millions of mackerel at the moment) The amount of Minke whales feeding is incredible.
On Tuesday last week we counted 30 at one point, all working in a 1 mile square. Hundreds of Gannets were also working the area too. It was like watching a Natural World programme on telly!

We have caught fish every time we have sailed but some days have been poor and others have been ok when we have got clear of the feed areas. (I do like to give a true and honest report of things)

Yesterday, we had one of our sponsors on board. Bob Ellis from "Focus Training"and his friend Richard chartered the boat just for themselves. With fantastic conditions we had a good run offshore for a change to see what things were like out there.
A slow start at first, but as the morning progressed the fishing came on really strong. By midday the lads had a couple of boxes of cod on board and at the end of the day they had over 200 lbs of fish!!

No big cod landed. The best fish falling to Richard at around 7 lbs.

A great days sport, great company and lovely weather too.

    Bob & Richard inset.

The September competition is fast approaching and starts on the 15th September. £1000.00 1st prize!!!!

The fishing continues to be really good this week here at Whitby.

Sadly, the next few days are looking like being cancelled due to inclement weather.

Tony Porter and his mates joined us the other day along with some other lads and they had a cracker of a day working the grounds 3 or 4 miles off. A good number of doubles coming to the boat too.

Top rod for the day was Sean with 15 cod, a pollack and a couple of ling. A nice days work!

Best fish of the day, a lovely cod of 12 lb 8 oz by Jim Arthur from Blackburn.

All their fish nicely filleted at the end of the day by our Adam who will gladly do any of your fish for the price of a pint or 2 !!!!

Cheers and tight lines wherever your fishing

    22.08.2018.

A mixed group on today regular lads fishing with us including Chris Stevenson all the way from Sydney, Australia! He's not quite as regular as the others!!

A lovely days fishing with plenty of cod and ling for the table. Most of the fish coming up on the bait today. Baited Hokkais working. Baited jigs too and a good few fish to the shads as well.

Top rod on the day was Bill Barraclough from Barnsley who managed a very impressive 20 cod himself. No big ones to shout about though. Best fish, a ling around the 9 lb mark.

Room for 3 rods on the boat tomorrow. 23rd August. Individuals very welcome.
Room for 6 rods on Sunday too after a last minute cancellation. Individuals very welcome.

    Tight lines

    19.08.2018.

1st day back at work today after the break with a mixed group of lads joining us.

The forecast wasn't brilliant but with the breeze blowing off land we were able to work some stretches of ground close to shore.

We worked the same strip of ground South of the harbour until around 11.30 am where the lads gathered some 40 or so cod to around 7 lbs. Great sport in 60 ft of water!!
Sadly, when the wind swung to the North West it did spoil things as we lost the drift.

Working our way back towards Whitby we stopped on several more marks for just a handful of codlings. Mackerel fishing was our last stop at the bell bouy where the lads were "dipping and filling" with them!

All in all, a good day for the lads who will be returning in September for their next trip.

Paul Edwards and his mates are pictured with some of their catch.

    Cheers and tight lines,
    Rich

    COD GALORE!!!!!!

Yesterdays team was made up with a mixed group of lads from Middlesborough, Blackburn, East Cowton and Bedale in North Yorkshire.

We started the day gathering the bait on the Whitby rock where the lads were straight in to strings of good size mackerel. After just a couple of minutes we had enough on the boat for the day.

We then started work for the white fish on the ground on the 5 mile which was steady to say the least with just a half dozen taken although they were a reasonable stamp of cod and ling. Cod to around the 4 to 6 lb mark and a ling of 9 lb.

This wasn't quick enough so we moved a little further to the 8 mile ground where the lads started picking away straight from the off. For the rest of the day we hardly moved at all as the cod was coming to the boat in really good numbers. At one point just after slack water it really was like winding the clock back 25 years!!

At the end of the day the 7 of them had a good 30 stone of fish between them. The better fish were taken on the fresh mackerel and squid bait but the majority of the catch were taken on the shads.

A bonus for Jim Arthur from Blackburn was a belting lobster of 5 lb 8 oz!!! Jim was snagged in the bottom and when his line came free he hauled him up on the old braid which it was tangled up in. Get your lottery ticket bought mate!!!

The lads are pictured with a few of their fish.

    Tight lines as ever,
    Rich

No fear!!!! The Bozs are back in town...After the disappointment of our last trip being cancel due to high winds. The Tuesday on the competition period, and then finding out the £5 k winning fish was caught the very next day !!! We wasn't looking forward to catching anything big as this would put us even down more. Anyway first off mackerel for baits which took 10 minutes to catch 50 of big mackerels. Then 30 minutes steam out to first wreck producing cod, ling, coley and 3 Pollock to all. Rough grounds was better on shags, but bigger fishes were nail on baited muppets. Cod range from 1-3lbs size with the biggest cod 7-8lbs. Lost personally 12 sets of weights and end tackle, so a big Thank you, rich for putting me on the side of boat where the rig would hook the wreck...If it wasn't for your son Adam the swear words would defo put the fishing off!! Looking forward to competition day in September. Armed with more Weights.....GeorgieO

Some quite superb fishing on the boat this last few trips.

We worked a wreck to start the day taking around 40 fish from it with cod to around the 8 lb mark and ling to around 10 lb.

The rest of the day we worked the rough ground and they ended up with in excess of 140 fish for the day. One of our best days so far this year!!

The lads are pictured inset with some of their catch.

Some lovely plump codling knocking about at the moment here at Whitby.

My good mate Nigel Hall and my lad Adam knocking a good box out between them the other day. Most of the fish falling to the shads.

The ground around the 3 to 5 mile producing a reasonable amount of fish so plenty of fishing time too!!

We will sharpish get you into the swing of it!
