    09.06.2016.

With yet another beautiful forecast ahead of us today we started out this morning full of high expectations.
The lads who formed today's crew were from an American Community and all newbies to Whitby on their maiden trip.
The lads travelled from Essex and set off at midnight last night!
We started the day on a strip of ground some 7 miles NE for a very slow half a dozen fish for 3 drifts. A small move out to the 9 mile area trying a couple of strips of ground and a wreck proved slow also.
Time for a move to a distant wreck then and hopefully some better fishing. Arriving a shade after slack water we hit it perfectly. The 7 lads all hitting fish straight away!
The fishing continued steady for a good 3 hours or so until we eventually exhausted the wreck taking close to 100 fish.
The lads all agreed that the day was a cracker, both weather wise and fishing wise too and will definately be back.
The distant marks still proving far better than the more inshore marks again today.
The lads pictured with a few of their catch.
A big "Thank you" to Steven Anscombe for doing a sterling crewing job as ever.
    Cheers and tight lines lads.

Some cracking weather at last here at Whitby after the bombardment of rubbish we've just had from the North.

The last couple of days we spent on the more offshore marks whilst we wait for the inner marks to come on after the Northerly blow and the algae clears.

A trip to the 20 mile wrecks proved very fruitful indeed for our mixed team on Tuesday, The lads enjoying some great sport on a varied amount of tackle ranging from rod classes as low as 15 lb. Exciting stuff when fishing in 200 ft of water!!

Paul Cookson had the best bag of the day with Cod to 8 lb. Pollack and Ling also. 15 fish in total for Paul.

The Summer competition is looming ever closer and starts on Sat 25th June and runs for 3 weeks inc.
We still have a few days left with a some spaces. If you fancy a go my details are as follows :-

    27.05.16.

A vast improvement for today's mixed group of lads.

Most of the lads averaging around 6 - 8 fish each and all being caught on the shads and sidewinder lures. A few of the lads were baiting their lures with good results.

Simon England from Barnsley, South Yorks, enjoying a nice catch of 12 fish. A mixed bag of Codling and Ling.

Top bag for the day was Steve Mason from Chesterfield with 15 fish. Again, a mixed bag of Codling and Ling.

Nothing of any great size, but with the general Codling stamp being around the 4 - 5 lb mark and the ling running to around the 7 lb mark, a very enjoyable days work indeed. All today's fish coming from inside 6 miles too which is a very good sign.

It's looking like the dreaded algae is finally abating lads, so lets hope thing continue to improve for the season from here-on-in.

Cheers and tight lines as ever!!

Not much to report of late here at Whitby.

The algae is still plaguing us and is as bad as it's been for ages. Hopefully reaching its peak now with some clearer water just around the corner. One Mackerel caught yesterday !! First of the year here at Whitby to my knowledge.

Today we had half a dozen lads on board and their total catch for the day was 16 Cod, 2 Pollack and a few Whiting.

A lovely calm and partially sunny day however, made up for the rather slow fishing. The lads were all pleased with the combined efforts though and enjoyed their day.

    Tight lines

    08.05.16.

Well, what a contrast from yesterday.

No great shakes at all yesterday but a lot worse today!!!

Ran back to grounds well offshore (30 mile) to find the algae had kicked in BIG time overnight out there too.

Scraped around for very little at all. Again, a lovely day weather wise with 200% effort put in as always but rubbish fishing!!

    Roll on clear water again.

Honest reports as ever lads and no BULL!!

    Tight lines

    07.0516.

With the current Algae in the water linked with massive tides, the inshore fishing is very slow indeed at present, so we had a run to the deeper waters out on the 30 mile grounds today. The Algae was out there too but not in the same quantity.
The lads managed a respectable 40 or so fish with Codling to around 6lb, Ling to a shade under 12lb and a handful of Pollack.
All in all a nice day for the lads and when we broke through the fog at 20 miles, nice and warm for a change too!!
    Cheers

After a week of crappy weather here at Whitby, we eventually sneaked a day yesterday. Another "window" to take advantage of. Sick of looking for windows in the weather now !!

Some decent Pollack fishing on the first wreck with numbers of fish approaching 25 to around 7 lbs in weight.

A few half decent Codling too with the best going just short of 6 1/2 lb.

The algae bloom is there or thereabouts at Whitby now so the fishing can sometimes be a little patchy at this time of the year. However, if the weather is fine enough, we can get you to the marks further afield to the deeper waters where the algae isn't quite as bad. These deeper water marks can very often produce when other more inshore marks are quieter.

Cheers for now and tight lines as ever !

    Rich.

The Spring angling competition ended here in Whitby last Sunday 17th April.

The lads and lasses who fished aboard the Shy-Torque made a valiant and sterling effort each day we were off to try and tempt the big one!!

Sadly, the big one didn't poke it's nose out for them this time, but with the most daily prizes won across the competition falling to the Shy-Torque anglers and second overall heaviest fish too, I reckon we all did a pretty good job !!

May I thank all the anglers who fished with us aboard the boat in the competition and look forward to seeing you all again soon. The Summer competition will be on top of us soon!! Still some dates available.

    14.04.2016.
Approaching the end of the Spring competition here at Whitby now guys.

We decided that a run off shore again today was in order, to try for the big one.
Nothing to challenge the leading fish, but Bill Wildey from Edinburgh took yet another 1st daily prize for the Shy-Torque crew with a nice Cod of (I think) 9 lb 9 oz.

    Bill is pictured.

    Cheers

A cracking forecast today allowed us to try some more distant offshore wrecks in search of the Spring festival winner.

A mixed group of regulars along with newcomers to the boat resulted in a reasonable show of fish for the lads today.
Starting on a wreck 17 miles North of the harbour and finishing on one some 27 miles from shore, the lads ended up with around 60 fish between them. Not a brilliant catch numbers wise, but some good quality fish, with the best fish falling to regular Shy-Torque angler Guy Wrightson who took 1st daily again. Guy lead the comp at the start with a nice Ling of just over 12 lbs.

His Pollack today of 9 lbs winning the £50.00 daily 1st prize.
His mate Craig Simmonds taking 3rd daily prize.

    Guy is pictured.

    Cheers and tight lines
    Rich
