Some cracking days and some not so cracking days of late!!

The not so cracking days fortunately have been few and far between as the fishing on the Shy-Torque continues to be generally very good.

The Summer competition comes to a close this coming weekend so the boys who are booked will be going at it big time to try and crack the current leading fish.

The best day for us this last week or so was last Friday where the lads took well in excess of 130 fish between themselves. The day started out superbly with our first stop of the day lasting all morning. Cod to just over 8lb were recorded and ling to just over the 9lb mark. Not big enough to contend for the lead in the comp but some great sport never the less.

David Noakes was among the split team and he managed a very credible 25 fish himself at the end of the day. Doesn't really get a lot better to be fair!!

David is pictured with his mornings catch. Another dozen or so fell to his rod in the afternoon too!!

The fishing remains very good at the moment lads. Some good ground fishing to be had and also some good sport on the wrecks.

We have started our sharking missions now too. Sadly none boated as yet, but we have had a couple of "Runs" We also had one swimming around the boat on the last trip so signs are good. If you fancy a go for them give me a ring to arrange a trip.

The Summer competition started here at Whitby on Saturday just gone. Massive cash prizes on offer again this year with the top prize standing at £5000.00!! Last year the boys on the Shy-Torque took 2nd, 3rd and 4th heaviest fish overall, plus the heaviest cod caught too at over 20lbs! Stacks of daily prizes won too.

We have a couple of days left with room in this years comp.

They are :- Wed 1st July. Room for 5.

Fri 3rd July. Room for 1.

Mon 6th July. Room for 5.

Come and join us for a slice of the action!

We've spent the last 4 days on sharking missions. Sadly no big boys in town yet but some fabulous fishing whilst we tried for them. Some good quality fish to 8lb among them too.

On the 36 hour shark trip on Wednesday and Thursday this week Rich Furness and his mate Graham gathered over 200 cod between them (at anchor!!) They'll be eating fish till this time next year!!

Still a couple of dates left this month and next if you fancy bagging a few yourselves.

Cheers and tight lines as ever,

A group of lads travelled 5 1/2 hours to try and get a slice of this terrific action we're experiencing here at whitby at present.

American Joe Scott and his 7 U.S mates from Hastings joined the boat at 9am for a later than normal start. This was to give the latest weather system a chance to move out and also to ease the travelling times for themselves.

We steamed to the strip of ground I worked on Saturday just gone and as soon as we arrived the rods were bouncing! Steady fishing all day long kept a smile on the lad's faces. Again, nothing big to report but with well in excess of 120 fish to 6lb on board, yet another cracking day for the Shy-Torque crew.

    The lads are pictured.

The amount of fish here at Whitby at the moment is fantastic and the best part about it is it's right on our doorstep!!

Since the last report here on CBUK the lads have enjoyed some really quite amazing sport. Most of the fish are of a similar stamp around the 3lb to 5lb mark which is a great size for the pan!!

Yesterdays crew were two groups and a single making up the full boat. Eric Davison's group from the West Riding, Chris Booth's lads from the North East and single angler Steve Bulliment from East Yorkshire.

The day started off relatively slow compared to the last few trips but this was down to the WNW breeze against the tide which almost held the boat at a standstill. Not good for the ground fishing which is where we have been seeing the best results of late. So we decided to drop on a couple of wrecks for just a hand full of fish apiece. As the breeze eased away I decided that a run off a bit further was in order and popped out to a strip of ground unknown to many, some 8 miles from the harbour. This was like a trip down memory lane for me as I hadn't been there for over a year!! As soon as we stopped on the first feed mark and all the gear hit the bottom I knew we were in for a good time. Every rod on the boat bent in to fish. Bingo!!!

Shads and baited Hokkai's taking the bulk of the fish which were coming on board in trebles at one point!!

We managed 6 drifts across the ridge where we took over 100 cod!! A terrific end to what looked like being a fairly standard sort of day at the beginning. We'll be straight back there again as soon as this nasty bit of weather passes.

We only have one day left in June now where the boat is empty. This is the 16th June.
There are 3 dates left in June with spaces for individuals or small groups.
These are :-4th June (6 places)
    17th June (7 places)
    18th June (9 places)
There are only 5 dates left in the Summer competition with room which are :-
    1st July (7 places)
    3rd July (1 place)
    6th July (7 places)
    7th July ( 3 places)
    8th July (1 place)

    27.05.2015.

Some regular faces aboard the boat yesterday making up a mixed group of 10 anglers.

With conditions nigh on perfect we decided to make a start on some fairly inshore wrecks. The first couple didn't produce too much with around 15 fish or so off the pair. The 3rd however did show signs of a reasonable fishing on both the artificials and the bait where the lads took around 30 more fish.

I decided to try a couple of inshore wrecks in the "shallows" next, working in just over 30 meters of water. The first of the 2 produced a dozen or so. Our best cod of the day coming off that one, weighing a shade over 8.5lbs. Josh from Leeds enjoying some exciting sport with that one!! This was his 2nd trip ever and was overjoyed with his fish!! The 2nd of the 2 in the shallower produced very little where I guessed the water was just too mucky.

We finished off on the rough ground just 3 miles from the harbour where we raked another 12 or so small codling to round the day off. All in all a very enjoyable day with the best catch on board going to Derek Wiggins from Leeds with 18 cod. He caught all but one of his fish on a single jig.

Cheers lads and happy fishing as ever.
    Rich.

Winner of this years 2015 Spring angling competition Marek Pracowity visited Whitby again the other day to collect his prize money.

Marek from Leicester joined us in the "Station Inn" (competition sponsors) to be presented with his £1000.00 in cash.

His winning cod of 14lb 12.5oz caught on the last day of the event on the Shy-Torque III also won him the daily 1st prize of £50.00

Marek said he was going to treat his wife and children to some lovely presents with the money. He also said he would be returning to have a go for the massive prize money on offer in the Summer competition. Good luck mate!!

Some superb action for the lads aboard the boat on all the trips since the last report lads. Some of them walking off with well into double figure amounts!!

This weeks lads have seen some slightly better size coding on the ground on the 9 mile. Nothing startling big but nice meaty codling to around 7lb. They really are starting to pile the weight on now.

Not many days left in June now so if you fancy a trip, best get your bookings made sharpish!!

Check the availability calendar to see what's left. The calendar is here on this site and also on my personal website at www.shy-torque2000.com

Cheers and happy fishing wherever ya are!!
