I had a walk in to Martin and Jackies shop for a natter and a cuppa today and what a
fantastic surprise I got upon entering!
Martin and Jackie are the owners of Whitby ANGLING Supplies here at
Whitby and have been now for a number of years. They pride themselves on
offering a 1st class service, both in the sale of tackle and also the
knowledge of the sea angling here at Whitby. Dan is also on their team
as sales assistant and is as enthusiastic and knowledgeable about
angling at Whitby as I am, and that takes a lot!! He will tell you
exactly what you need for a great days sport.
The surprise I got was from the vast array of stock which Martin has
just introduced in to the shop. It was literally like walking in to
"Alladins Cave" Every conceivable item you could ever wish for in the
name of sea angling is in there!! Top branded names in every section of
the shop, from rods and reels to the bottom gear. Floatation suits,
boots, the lot is there! I've never seen as much stuff in one place!! A
real credit to them.
Here's hoping your hard work and efforts are thoroughly rewarded this
year Martin. You get my full vote and I will ( as always ) be sure to
point my lads your way again during this season.
May I also just add that they are sponsors of the Whitby Charter
Skippers Association competitions here at Whitby and without the
continued support from them and other businesses in Whitby we wouldn't
be able to host such events.
Make sure you pay them a visit next time you're in Whitby. They will
beat the other angling shops here hands down!!

With just over 3 weeks to go till our first festival of the year, now's the chance to have a quick look at the availability calendar for spaces left on the boat. Please visit the website www.shy-torque2000.com
The Spring festival (competition) starts on Saturday 6th April and ends on Sunday 21st April.
Individuals are very welcome on the Shy-Torque any time of the year including all competition events. If you are a single angler and fancy having a go for the big money on offer here at Whitby in our competitions, or at any other time, please feel free to drop me a line at any time.
The prize money on offer in the comps is unbeatable and really is worth a crack at!! Remember, we are the only boat offering an extra £200.00 in cash if the winning fish is caught on the Shy-Torque. This applies in each competition this year.

After a short spell out of the water for a full inspection and service, the boat is now safely back in the harbour.
Everything in tip top condition and ready to get back out there!!.
I would imagine that the wrecks off Whitby will now be lifting with cod seeing as no-one has been off now for a good few weeks. If you fancy a trip in the near future drop me a line and we'll have a go.
We can reach the wrecks out on the 20 mile with a minimum of 6 anglers. You DON'T have to book the full boat and individuals are always welcome.
Really looking forward to the season this year and look forward to sailing with you soon.

Shy-Torque III. 4th, 5th + 6th January.
Mixed fortunes for the lads over the last 3 days aboard the boat.
On Friday (4th) we sailed to the 9 mile ground hoping that the water had cleared out. Sadly it hadn't so we steamed to a few wrecks on the 20 mile. They didn't produce too well either if I'm honest. The lads amassing around 40 fish between them. Most of the fish falling to squid bait.
A group of 4 lads from "Attic" nr Hornsea had the boat booked on Saturday (5th) and they didn't fair too well either! They managed a couple of dozen fish between them. Mucky water at present.
From what I was hearing on the radio everyone was struggling wherever they were, inshore and offshore, so I decided it was a good time to get the boat booked in for her annual lift out of the water.
Travelling to distant grounds, yesterdays group faired a lot better. Not so much quality wise but certainly quantity wise. Cod were boated to around the 7lb mark and Ling to just under 12lb. Nearly all fish taken on the bait yet again. All the lads walked away with a very respectful bag of fish for the table.
The boat is now high and dry on the dock and will be for the next week or so. Annual check over, antifouling and polish. Hopefully the water will have cleared a bit for our return.

Fishing competitons 2013.
If the winning fish is caught aboard the Shy-Torque III in any of the 2013 fishing competitions, I will be giving away an extra £200.00 in cash from my own pocket to the winning angler !!
This will apply in all 3 competitions next year !!
The 2013 competition dates are as follows :-
Spring comp :- April 6th - April 21st inc
Summer comp :- June 22nd - July 14th inc
Autumn comp :- Sept 14th - Sept 29th inc
We are the only boat in Whitby to be offering this great additional cash prize !!!

Tues 18th Dec.
Well, we keep getting windows in this crazy winter weather now and again! Today was another one we pinched.
The last minute booking section on this site proving to be priceless!
I had a number of lads calling me for the trip today and ended up with a boat full after seeing that there was an almost certain chance of sailing.
We made our choice straight from the off and ran out to the 20 mile. First wreck showing very little indeed but the second providing the lads with a lovely showing of cod to around the 8lb mark.
The water is anything but clear at the moment as nearly all the fish fell to the baited rigs, however I did manage one or two on the shads myself!!
Always nice to see the hardy winter lads aboard the boat ( as it is with all customers! ) and up for the challenge!!

Sunday 16th Dec.
Just had a look at the forecast for the next few days and it's looking very settled to around Wednesday.
We have room each midweek day this coming week and as always I will sail with a minimum of 4 anglers.
If we get 6 lads booked on I will gladly have a run to the offshore wrecks and even venture to the "Wall" where we have been seeing some fantastic fishing lately.

We managed to pinch another day at sea last Wednesday in between this rubbish weather of late.
A quick stop on the 9 mile ground proved unfruitful so we had a run out to the wrecks on the 20 mile.
First wreck produced right from the off with around 25 cod to the10lb mark. A few small ling thrown in too.
The next 3 wrecks produced very little. In fact, I think we only saw another 5 fish or so off all of them.
All in all not too good really fish wise, but a cracking day company wise !!
We will be working in between Xmas and New Years this year.
We are full on the 28th and 29th but still have room on the 27th and 30th.
As always individuals are very welcome and we will sail with a minimum of 4 anglers.

After a prolonged period of rubbish weather here at Whitby it is finally looking like we'll get a shot on Wednesday and Thursday this week!!!
I have a group of 5 or 6 on stand-by for Wednesday so if you fancy a trip give me a ring Tuesday evening. Individuals are most welcome!
