    Sunday 21st May.

Another beautiful day for us yesterday with our mixed group of lads.

We chose to get away from the faster running tide and headed offshore again to give the lads a better chance of catching.

Like the day before, the catch rate wasn’t anything special but everyone caught.
Glenn Stocks and Nick managed 16 fish between them.

One of my old motorcycling mates Graham Soloman managed 8 for himself too, with Cod to a shade over 7lbs. A deceptively stocky Codling!

All in all it was a good outing and the banter was even better!
Tally for the day 40 odd fish to keep with lots returns too.

    Cheers

21 May 2023 by Rich Ward

After a week away at a mates wedding we returned to sea yesterday on a absolute “flat calmer”
The tide running fairly strong on a 5.4m, the vote was to run offshore to the outer ground marks.

Fishing was by no means hectic but a reasonably steady picking throughout the day for the lads.

A good species day too with 10 different ones boated. Codling, Ling, Haddock, Pollack, Whiting, Norwegian Haddock, Pouting, Coaley, Gurnard and we also had our very first Mackerel of the year!!
    Summertime is coming at last!

An hour before we set off for home I also caught sight of a Tuna breaching some 250 yards from the boat!
We will be looking into having a go for them sometime soon as well. Can’t wait for that.

Cheers for now and enjoy this cracking weather wherever you are. Tight lines.

Room for a few this coming Wednesday if you fancy a run out.

12 May 2023 by Rich Ward

Nothing to shout home about on yesterday’s trip really.

We used the flood tide to start the day off on three offshore wrecks out on the 18 mile stream. Very little action at all with just a dozen or so Codling from those.
A U-turn it was then and we marched back towards the 9 mile marks, stopping on a tiny bit of scrap on the way. A half dozen Codling coming from that one.

The 9 mile is usually good for saving the day if things are slow elsewhere as the area is so vast. Not so yesterday!
We worked it until close of play and took just 20 or so more fish from there.

The amount of juvenile Haddock has opened our our eyes on the last few trips and yesterday was no exception. A dozen caught in the last hour with just a couple of keepers from them.

All in all a beautiful day at sea with gorgeous flat calm conditions and great banter! Around 35 fish for the day to keep with nothing big to challenge Henry’s 10lb 3oz Cod leading the fish of the month.

My old friend Bill Barraclough joined us again too after a spell of illness over the winter period. Great to see him back to full fitness again and have him back onboard.

A few days off for us now with a short break away for a mates wedding.
Any enquiries through email, WhatsApp or text this next week please.

Cheers for now and keep a tight line!

    7.05.23

With the lads all boarded for 6.45am yesterday we took the 7.0am bridge and headed out.

We’d had a quick conflab pre sailing to discuss our options.

The tides at present are running swift at 5.4m so the lads ended up voting for the offshore option as I figured the inshore marks would be tough going.
We ran to the grounds at the back of the 20 mile stream. The fishing started out a bit slow to be fair but after an hour or so they started to come on the feed nicely.

Four or five out of the group took a good half dozen fish with Cod to just over 9lb.
A nice stamp of good fresh run Cod for the table.
Unlike our last few trips where the better quality fish came up on the baited rigs, todays better fish came up on the artificials, Shads, Sidewinders etc.

Daryll, Pete and young Fergus taking the best 3 Cod at 9lb 2oz, 8lb 12oz and 10lb dead.

Tally for the day, around 40 odd keepers and a good number of “chuck backs”

Because Fergus works as crew, he can’t enter the monthly heaviest fish of the month competition on the boat where we’re giving a free trip away each month!! He was a few ounces short anyway!
Henry from Leeds still leads this months with a Cod just over 10lbs.

All in all a great day at sea with smashing company. Shame it was pea soup fog all day but you can’t have it all eh!

Cheers for now and keep a tight line.

A day of two halves for yesterday’s crew on the Shy-Torque III

We started out on the ground we fished well last Saturday for very little. A handful of Codling, three Haddock, Whiting and Pouting.
Perseverance there didn’t pay off so we moved offshore to a wreck I didn’t think had been touched in a while.

A good move for us as there was plenty of action for the lads.

Our Chinese contingent from Leeds, Alan,Joe,Tony and the two Henry’s having a good steady day on the Cod and Ling.
Best fish between those five, a lovely Cod just over 10lb caught by Henry #1.
Bob Ellis managing a dozen for himself too with Cod to 7lb 12oz.
Alan Sutcliffe bagged himself 10 nice fish too (Thanks again for the roofing felt mate!)

All in all a great day out with plenty of fish to take for each and everyone.

Henry’s Cod currently leading the May “fish of the month” on the boat where the heaviest fish boated wins a free trip.

Cheers for now and good fishing wherever you are.

29 Apr 2023 by Rich Ward

After a slow start on a couple of offshore wrecks this morning and only 4 fish boated, we decided to focus a bit a ground/reef fishing for a change.

Tides at present are perfect for the scrap to be fair, but the fish weren’t playing for us on them.

It was a wise move to try the ground marks as they fished really quite well.
The shads were taking a good number of the smaller fish but the baited rigs were taking much stronger fish.

Local laddy, Fergus Powell landed a lovely Ling of 11lb 8oz on a 12-20lb class Ugly Stick. Great sport for him with that one!!
Mark Errington from Darlington taking the best Cod of the day at 9lb 12oz.
My old mate Derek Wiggins from Leeds taking a lovely 12 fish for himself. His best, a nice Ling of 11lb.
Rob Waterworth from Bradford had a nice day on the Codling too boating 11 keepers for himself plus other bits. Rob was leading the Shy-Torque “fish of the month” with a 7lb 12oz Ling until today. We are giving a free trip to the person who lands the heaviest fish in any month up to and including October.

Craig Booth from Leeds pipped him today with a nice Ling of 12lb 12oz and wins himself a free trip as we are cancelling tomorrows trip.
    Well done to him.

Room on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

All in all a great day (apart from the cold!) and thanks for the good company chaps.

    Cheers for now,
    Rich

16 Apr 2023 by Rich Ward

Another fine day at sea yesterday for the Shy-Torque team.

Because the more inshore marks aren’t really producing much at present, the vote was to steam offshore again.

First stop, a nice big wreck, some 23 miles from port where instantly the lads were pulling out the fish.
The fishing continued for a steady couple of hours with drifts of up to 6 fish for the first half dozen passes. A great start with over 40 fish off that one!

As the tide eased a bit the fishing slowed up so we steamed another 2.5 miles to one of my favourite offshore wrecks. Rubbish!
Around a half a dozen more off that one that’s all. Ah well, that’s the way it goes.

We moved back inshore to drop on our final wreck of the day where the lads managed another 10 or so fish.

Mark Armitage from Holmfirth (pictured) was on his maiden sea fishing trip and had a great start to his new hobby with a half dozen lovely fish, his best going second heaviest on the boat. A lovely Codling of 7lb 3oz.
Rob Waterworth from Bradford took our heaviest on the boat, a nice Ling of 7lb 12oz which is currently in 2nd place overall in the competition.
His fish is currently leading our fish of the month too where the winner will get a free trip.

Today is the last day of the competition so we’ll be trying our best to bag the winner and the £1000.00 first prize.

Good luck to one and all.

15 Apr 2023 by Rich Ward

Some cracking Codling fishing yesterday for the mixed bunch of lads aboard the boat.

We ran to a wreck just shy of 18 miles East of the harbour and whilst we had perfect conditions throughout the morning we picked away nice and steadily until just after noon.
A good few doubles coming aboard too.

The breeze drawing round to the devils quarter from the South East basically scuppered any chances for us in the afternoon and we made our way back to port dropping on a few of the more local marks for very little reward.

Best fish on the boat going to James Webster from St Albans at just 6lb 7oz, just missing out on taking the lead in the competition by mere ounces! Unlucky James!

Tally for the day, a very respectable 60+ Codling, a handful of bootstrap Ling, Coley and the obligatory pesky Pouting!!

The last two days of this year’s Spring competition coming up today and tomorrow and with favourable weather too, we are hoping to pinch a few better fish from some of the offshore wrecks.

    Good luck to everyone involved.

    Cheers for now,
    Rich

9 Apr 2023 by Rich Ward

Our first day at sea for some time yesterday.
Also, our first day in this years Spring Festival.

I’d heard that the fishing inshore had been pretty poor on Wednesday and Thursday so we decided to stretch the Shy-Torque’s legs and headed out to the grounds at the back of the 20 mile stream.

This proved a good choice and the lads picked away steadily on the Cod for the best part of the trip.
Average drifts producing around 5 fish or so.

Three of the lads and myself boated 12-14 fish each and the others all boating half a dozen to 10 fish each.
Final tally for the day was around 70 Codling to keep with “chuck backs “ and a handful of strap Ling.

A cracking day out all in all with perfect weather conditions.

Regular angler with us, Artur Karbarz from Skipton taking the best of the day, a Codling at just 5lb 1oz which won him the Daily Cash prize of £50.00.
    Well done to Artur!
No big fish found at all but plenty of em!!
Thanks for sailing with us lads and see you again soon.

    Cheers for now,

18 Mar 2023 by Rich Ward

Yesterday was our first trip out for over 4 weeks and a very pleasant trip it was too.
We started the day on a bit of scrap 12 miles North of the harbour. This produced a nice picking of Codling till just before lunchtime for the lads. We then popped out to another wreck which didn’t produce much at all, however I did think this was because we’d lost the drift completely with a light SE breeze holding the boat still.
I managed half a dozen myself on the shad indicating clear water but the the 40 odd Codling the lads landed were all on the baited rigs.
Big tides looming next week so any trips will be of the Uptiding nature.
    Cheers for now,
    Rich
