It was a decent days fishing with plenty of mackerel showing early morning. The wind gradually increased, blowing south westerly, and made conditions a bit tricky after lunch, but we managed to pick cod up steadily. Most were just size and a little over and were returned for another day. We managed some better cod to about 5lb. Fish of the day went to Mistress regular Shaun, who landed a nice 7lb Pollock using a spoon/ shad combination on flowing trace. With high pressure forecast hopefully the winds will settle and improve conditions further.

The better quality fish are now starting to appear, particularly cod and Ling, and even with a spring tide we managed to land a number of cod to 9lb and some good Ling. The weather today started well with a gentle swell but the wind gradually strengthened in the afternoon, quickening the drift. A variety of tactics proved successful, including baited Hokkai's, baited shads and flowing traces. Pink seemed to be the colour of the day.

If your new to fishing and just want to give it a go, try a couple of hours evening mackerel trip. An ideal opportunity for a shorter taster session, and with some great advice and tackle available from the skipper you'll have a fantastic trip. Contact Tony for more information.

After landing a decent few mackerel for bait, we set off to do a few wrecks, however it was a tough day weather wise. Gradually the westerly wind gained in strength as the day went on, making the drift to quick at times for wreck fishing, so Tony opted to go on the hard ground.
It was a slow start, but by lunch time the fishing improved, with the cod starting to feed. We started to pick a few off each drift, in the 2lb to 3lb bracket. The fresh mackerel bait started to pay dividends on Ling rigs too. Shaun picked up a nice one, about 9 to 10 lbs, on a baited shad and another regular, Phil, had one about 7lb on baited Hokkai's. A couple of new lads aboard did quite well too, picking away at the cod for most of the afternoon. It was good to see one of them, who was a bit a novice, landing a fair few fish. He out fished yours truly. Well done. Considering the conditions, not a bad days fishing at all.

Mistress regulars Dennis and Freddie were amongst the fish again today. Freddie landing the best fish of the day, a Ling about the 11lb mark, shortly afterwards he followed up with a couple of decent cod. Dennis had a nice brace of cod around the 7lb mark. Matt, up again from Peterborough, had a good session fishing for mackerel, taking a couple of dozen before switching to cod rig's and landing some decent specimens himself. It was good to see mackerel finally turning up in numbers, a sure sign that the bigger Ling and Cod will be not far away. Thanks Tony for another great days fishing.

A cracking days fishing aboard Mistress. After a few mackerel drops, we headed north out of the river and fished a couple of wrecks. I didn't have much luck on hokkais, so I changed to a shad. The first cod I picked up was about 4lb. Then on the next drift I had a thumping bite from another cod, which weighed in at 16lb 8oz - a personal best. I continued the same tactics, landing another 8 cod around the 3 to 4lb. Matthew, a young lad fishing from a boat for the first time, changed to a shad. Following a bit of advice from the skipper, he started to land a few Cod himself. A great day, with everyone landing fish. Many thanks Tony.

Another cracking day fishing aboard Mistress. Talk about a mixed bag! It was my best day for catching a number of different species.
Tony had to search around before he found some fresh mackerel for bait. After that, we set off and headed to a few wrecks, picking up a few Cod. I had a couple to about 4lb before landing a Ling about the 10lb mark. The I hit a Ballan wrasse, a few Pouting and Coley before, taking a couple of whiting. After catching a weaver fish, I had a fierce bite. Reeling in, I thought the fish was decent; it was fighting hard. When it broke the surface I couldn't believe it- a wolf fish. The first I'd ever caught. Not big by any standards, about 6lb but it put up a great fight. Tony showed me the best way to skin it and recommend frying it like scampi. It's an ugly looking fish, but one of the best I've tasted.
Many thanks Tony, for another's fantastic day.

Another good trip with Tony, 46 Mackerel fillets in the smoker and 4 Coley in the freezer. Two of us fished Daylights throughout and lost the feathers off one hook and one terminal rig. Thanks again for a good night out.
