Great couple of days of fishing with two contrasting trips.

Yesterday we were ground fishing on one of our voucher trips. Vouchers can be purchased on the website and make great gifts. We had the first good showing of mackerel with a few dozen caught, some real clonkers too! Plenty of whiting, a few dabs and small codling, along with bull huss to 12lb and a nice Thornback, 11lb, were caught.

Today a club from Shrewsbury booked the boat for an offshore wreck trip. A perfect day weatherwise, calm and sunny and the fishing didn't disappoint. Plenty of pollack were caught with the best weighing in at 12lb. A few fat coalfish were also landed too.

We also spotted a Minke Whale today too.

A real summery feel to the weekend, long may it continue.

    Cheers, Carl

Pollack on the offshore wrecks took some finding on Sunday but after a few wrecks were fished we found good steady pollack fishing to 6 lb. A few coalfish to 3lb were also caught. Inshore we are starting to see plenty of species, including, whiting, dabs, gurnard, dogfish, bull huss, codling, pollack, weever, herring and a few mackerel. Fingers crossed that the weather eventually plays ball and becomes a little more predictable.

    Cheers, Carl.

Good pollack fishing at times over this last couple of weeks, with a few double figure fish caught (Jeff is pictured with an 11.5 pounder). I have some places next week on wrecking trips, 24th and 25th September if anyone fancied a last minute midweek trip.

Plenty of mackerel still being caught with some crackers weighing in at 1.5lb. Plenty of Huss, dogs, a few rays and the odd tope on the ground fishing days.

Will Small has been doing a great job skippering the boat, for a few days, over the past few weeks. Will has become a familiar face to many of you over the last year or so after he started working for us full time. He has been in the sea cadets from the age of 10 so has been around boats for some time and last winter he gained his Seafish Under 16.5 metre ticket. He's also an experienced sailor with a Gibraltar yacht delivery and a few days crewing on the Lord Nelson being a couple of his most notable passages. Plus you'll be pleased to know he can find the fish too!

Fishing over the last couple of weeks has been good, but weather challenging, as has been usual this summer.
Ground fishing has produced many Bull Huss and a few Thornbacks, in fact yesterday we landed 10 rays up to 11lb. Plenty of mackerel make for excellent bait.

On the wrecks offshore pollack fishing is still good with the best one this week 11.5lb. When anchored on these wrecks over slack odd tope to 27lb and spurdog to 13lb have been caught. The cod we saw in July have thinned out but we are still seeing odd fish to 4lb. Inshore wrecks are producing some ling and conger.

I have room on 30th and 31st August on 8 hour trips if anyone fancies a last minute trip over the holiday weekend.

Just back from the Isle of Man after a three day trip. Good weekend's fishing with 17 species caught. Notable fish were a 12lb pollack and a 10lb cod. We also had plenty of coalfish to 5lb, a few ling, wrasse and a spurdog. The trip was hard fought at times with some windy periods but the lads were all rewarded with plenty of fish to take home for the table and a couple of good nights on the town in Douglas.

A notable catch today was a 13 lb cod, the biggest I have seen on the boat for many years, if not decades. The lads from Sefton Sea anglers fished steadily through most of the day landing further cod in the 2-5lb bracket and some pollack. Off to the Isle of Man tomorrow on a three day trip and looking forward to fishing over there for the first time this year.

We tried our first serious session at anchor, of this year, on one of the wrecks today, on an midweek individual wreck trip. It was a great day to try it as the tides were small and mackerel are now prolific so fresh bait is easy to catch. A few ling to 9 lb fell to large baited hokkais or cod feathers, with the odd cod to 4 lb thrown in. Flappers and whole mackerel tempted a couple of congers and bull huss. Time for some drifting in the afternoon so we made our way further offshore. The wind freshened so fishing wasn't easy but the lads managed a few nice pollack and cod to 7 lb. Our species tally for the day was a respectable 10 consisting of mackerel, ling, conger, cod, pollack, coal fish, pouting, whiting, bull huss, dogfish. Pictured is a 6.5 lb cod.

Fishing both inshore and offshore is excellent at the moment. Plenty of widespread mackerel have been caught this week providing perfect bait. On the offshore wrecks pollack fishing has been prolific with in excess of 150 fish the other day with a fair number between 7lb and 11lb. We also had a few cod up to 6lb and some coal fish.
Inshore fishing has also been very good with plenty of bull huss, a few tope and the first gurnard showing. The spring bloom is now dying and the water both inshore and offshore is clearing nicely. The photograph is from the Blind Veterans trip yesterday showing one of the lads with a nice tope. Summer is here!
