Quite often the fishing can be very difficult in August, but at the moment it's very good indeed. With the banks still producing some nice flatfish,Big Blonde Rays and the odd nice Bass . The offshore Reef's producing some really nice Tope to over 30lb,Big Bream Congers and Bullhuss.
Just 1 match on the boat this weekend with the Kings Arms Southampton. Reasonable weather and small tides so we pushed offshore, only 14 species but as well as big Tope ,Bream , Bullhuss,3 species of Ray and Congers also had Dragonet and Weaver. Top 3 on the day

2nd Richard Dicky Day 225
3rd Ed Taylor 185
In the Piscary species hunt boat tally is still 53
Top 3

Fishing Report by Matt Rowe
10 Jul 2025 by Matt Rowe
Today we held (hopefully) the first Piscary annual summer open. It was a different type of match for us loosely based on international type rules and scoring, where every fish counts. Although it wasn't a species type day we still managed 16 species on the boat. Including 2 Grey Gurnards,3 Red Mullet! Plus the very 1st Butterfly Blenny for Piscary caught by Stainless Steve Bachelor. He wins a free trip for adding a species to the list! Once again we had to fish in very difficult conditions with a strong westerly wind and ebbing tide, but the 10 anglers caught 447 fish between them. Top 3 in the comp
1st Ray Barron 206 £120
2nd Luke Allen 199 £40
2nd Paul Hollyoake 199 £40
The runners up also received TBars and Tubertini fold down buckets supplied by Stainless Steve engineering.
I would like to do some more competitions on this type of format, and it would be great to get enough anglers to make it a multi boat competition with higher prize money. I could possibly do one on Sunday the 21st of September, anyone who is interested in doing it please send me a text

For the most part the fishing has been exceptional.Had 4 matches so far this week.First it was the Thursday round of the Piscary Super league, a real red letter day as the sea was like a sheet of glass all day with sightings of Sunfish seals and sharks on the way out. Knew it would be an easy day the decision to go straight out offshore was almost unanimous, only 14 species on the boat but 52 very big Tope in the first 2hrs ,plus Bullhuss, Cuckoo Wrasse Congers and Big Bream made for a great morning. In the afternoon session inshore had some lovely Smoothounds,Bass and a bonus Turbot.Top 3 on the day
1st Steve Harder 278
2nd Ray Barron 220
3rd Rod Giles 208
On the Friday a total different day, strong easterly restricted us to very close inshore which was a bit disappointing after Thursday, however the fishing was very good much better than you would expect in those conditions.
20 species on the boat with more Rays than usual. Top 3 on the day
1st Gary Young 304
2nd Richard Dicky Day 240
3rd Mike Fox 223.
Next it was the Piscary evening league.I made the decision to stay in the harbour due to the continuing easterly winds, this was a big mistake although the fishing was slow we did manage 9 species in the end,a few nice Plaice and big Gilthead Bream. Top 3 on the night
1st Andy Peadon 100
2nd Gary Rook 87
3rd Darren Phillips 80
Today it was the Swan Kingsclere, unfortunately again the forecast was totally wrong really strong easterly wind made the fishing very difficult .10 species on the boat plenty of Mackerel which makes a nice change and is a good sign and Bass to 6lb top, 3 on the day
1st Billy Verney 151
2nd Gillan Thomson 145
3rd Alistair McLaren 117 . -

This week the weather has been rubbish and so is the fishing. Luckily we have managed to find some rare species for the anglers that need them for their yearly total, Including Shannys, Scorpion Fish, Flounders, Gilthead Bream and Silver Eels. Had 2 matches on the boat this week first it was the IBAC species hunt practice day, it was awful weather but we made the best of it and had a reasonable day considering.15 species in total. Top 3 on the day
1st Ray Barron 108
2nd Kim Bowden
3rd Uwe Brown 76
Next it was the Big one, the Poole 4 man species hunt !! unfortunately once again the winds were a bit stronger than the forecast which made fishing very difficult, however 15 teams on 7 boats managed to catch a total of 29 species .Top teams
1 Christchurch Angling centre 32 points £800 price Money.
Joint second on 28 points and same number of species
Blue zone
IBAC
Isle of Wight A team
£130 and tackle prizes for each team.
Top 3 boat scores
1st Ocean Runner 54
2nd Piscary 51
3rd Silver Spray 2 50 .
Big thanks to Sarah and Louis Medley of Boney M charters for organising the comp again this year .Date is already set for next year Friday the 5th June 2026. It really is the most exciting competition and would recommend it to any boat angler who is interested in species fishing and fishing against some of the countries best anglers.

Hampshire Police intended to have their annual open match this week unfortunately the weather had other ideas so the match was cancelled , however as most of the teams had a practice day booked for the day before, so it was decided last minute to have the match 1 day early. As you can imagine this didn't suit everyone but they still managed to have 42 anglers on 4 boats . The fishing was a bit tricky but still had a great day out with 17 species .Top 3 on each boat
