Had a great day on Saturday - weather was perfect .. flat calm seas and non stop fish. The whiting and dog fish were still a nuicance but no where near as many. And COD at last. We lost a good one early on- it was fighting well but sadly escaped. We had another fish lost on the surface a good skate, but then it was better news with a nice lot of cod and skate safely in the net.
Lets hope this is the start of a great cod season.

Not great tides this weekend- could only do single tides. Fished up river mark for a couple of hours but only had a skate and few dogs and whiting so moved down river and had a nice lot of hounds to 6.5 lb and small bass. Ended up with a reasonable amount of fish given the length of time fishing, as usual fresh peeler and hermit were the killer baits .

What a difference a week makes - flat calm sea with fish everywhere.
Hounds galore but all in the 3 -5 lb range. Loads of whiting, dogs and pouting. 2 nice skate with the best one at 10lb. The bass were hard to come by our persistence paid off in the end.. It was nice to see the youngsters all catch good fish.. they all caught pretty much non stop.. they are hooked.
A great weekend - lets hope the weather holds like this.

Saturday was very windy and we struggled to get to the best fishing spots, but we managed some skate and hounds against the odds.
Sunday was windy to begin with, but for once the forcast was right and the wind dropped as the day went by, fishing was slow at first with just small hounds, we moved to a bank that has been quite productive recently and we caught plenty of hounds and a couple of small bass.. One of the anglers hit into an absolute cracker, which ran against the tide and clutch and sadly snapped the line.. probably a really big hound, but who knows. We finished up with about 25 hounds so not a bad end to the weekend.

strong Easterly winds put the damper on things a bit this weekend, but we stuck it out and were rewarded with bass / hounds and a nice unexpected tope ! all on crab.
A nice double figure hound on Sunday was the best fish of the weekend. The sun shone and everyone went home with a red face and at least 5 hounds each so not so bad in the end..

Back home from my holidays now after 3 weeks away, was hoping the weather had improved.. it hasn't. Got both Saturday and Sunday in and had a mixed bag of results. The weed proved a problem in my usual marks so had to move around a lot to avoid it, but the fish came in reasonable numbers. Double figure fish came both days with some very nice skate and hounds.

After another week of diabolical weather we had a small break promised by the met office. For once they got the prediction spot on.. We left at 0600 on a flat calm sunny Sunday morning - Heaven.
The angling party were on their annual competition and expectations were running high as the Thames is fishing brilliant at the moment.. I agreed to keep the scores and at around 0730 the fishing started.. From the off they hit smoothounds and bass, the best one came when the tide slackened and we moved to a small wreck, this weighed in at just under 18lb and was a personal best ever fish for Alan Tidd.
I decided to have a go as I had promised a friend a skate for his tea, I almost immediately caught the second double figure hound of the day.
We had a short play over low water trying to catch bass in the wrecks and had one about 3lb and my first mackerel of the year.. a surprise dab and loads of dogs were also caught. The wind got up as the day went on, so we moved into the shallows for the flood and were rewarded with more hounds and a couple of skate.
The winning angler had 5 hounds and a dog fish. Total hounds caught was 26 , 4 Bass to 5lb , 2 skate, 8 dogs, a dab , 30 whiting and a mackerel.. all in all a great day.

    What a cracking weekend,
the hounds have arrived in good numbers - we managed about a dozen on Saturday with the best around 10lb and a nice lot of good skate.
Sunday less hounds but more skate - a nice first double for one very happy angler.

Cannot wait to get out again this coming weekend, the tides are much bigger.. should see some bass and plenty more hounds.

    Great Easter weekend.
We had over 25 skate on Sunday.. Best one around 12lb - cannot say for sure as my scales were broken when someone trod on them.
One angler had 2 big skate at once .. they were mating.. never seen that before !!
