Saturday was due to be a flat calm day with glorious sunshine.. shame the fog came down so thick that we did not see anything until late afternoon... Fishing was patchy and we finally got among the skate right at the end of the day. This did however improve my chances for Sunday as I knew exactly where the fish were.. Sunday.. the fog had lifted but the wind was over tide and this made the first couple of hours fishing tricky. However after a really good take which resulted in a snap off we knew the skate were in attendance. A short while later we started to get them and finished up with most anglers managing 2 each. I hooked one up and the reel handle snapped so I unselfishly let one of the anglers take over.. 15 minutes later he managed to get it in..
Not sure how many we ended up with, all the females went back plus a couple of smaller ones.. ended up a lovely days fishing .. cannot wait to get back out.

What a lovely weekend .. Weather was spot on with light wind and glorious sunshine. Fishing showed first signs that summer is on the way. We caught some nice Roker (thornback rays)and loads and loads of whiting. This weekend we will go to the normal spring thornback hotspots and hope they come in as large numbers as last year.. we averaged 30 a trip.
Remember to use at least a 40lb trace as the thornbacks grind the line and one of the anglers on the boat next to me found out the hard way seeing a nice double lost at the net when his trace snapped. Also check the trace regularly for damage as when the line is under strain it will snap...

Feburary was a tough month with patchy results. Codling are still around and when the weather permits the fishing can be reasonable. Last weekend despite poor weather conditions we managed a few codling, whiting and some enormous dabs.
Weather has stopped us trying the lower river marks so fingers crossed we will get down there next week and see if the skate have come back.

Codling are back in reasonable numbers along with a few thornback rays on the banks.
The shoals of seasonal sprat are moving off so fishing should improve from now on. If you are thinking of taking a trip then from now on should be a good bet

i came over to fish a fishing for fun meet upon rays new boat "the merlin"..fishing with lee johnson, and the fff crew was an experience, and Ray was an absulute gentleman, coming from Ireland,i had no gear.Ray set me up with quality rods and reels, already rigged up,with all baits supplied by the skipper at no extra cost, and there was MOUNTAINS of bait,as soon as we were out over the mark, tea and bacon butties came thick and fast,as did the whiting and rokers to our rods.Being Irish,i had not uptided before,Ray could not have been more helpful showing me the tequniques of uptiding and being very patient with me.The merlin is a very comfortable boat to fish, with loads of room for eight anglers, and Ray and his crew worked hard all day to get us onto the fish,I had a most enjoyable day and intend to bring an irish crew over next year to fish this venue with Ray again.

Tides this weekend are fairly large and with the nice settled weather it looks like it will be another corker..

Been a mad month with loads of wind stopping our trips on several weekends. However when we got out the fishing has been good with plenty of fish. Winter species have begun their migration into the river with the summer species beginning their migration out.. this is the best time of the year with summer and winter species both in abundance.
Last Sunday we had a great day with Dogfish in abundance and Whiting, Skate and Bass and still quite a few smoothounds.. If you can get out you will do very well.
