17 Jan 2012 by Gary Flint

Not a fishing trip as such, in terms of the length of the trip, we had been over Liverpool Bar on a diving trip and had half an hour to spare. So i had packed 1 packet of Black lug in the chance that this would happen.
So Micky rigged a rod up, and had a fish whilst he was having his dinner. From the off it was bite after bite and it didnt take long for the first codling to come in with a clean 2lb 5oz codling. He rebaited and dropped back in straight away within 5mins he had another 3lb codling. He had some big bites untill he hooked and a nice 6lb 4oz Cod. With this in the boat it was time to head in.

All in all half an hour fishing, with 3 fish and the best at 6lb 4 oz. Roll on the next trip!

30 Dec 2011 by Gary Flint

    30th December 2010

The last trip of the year saw us welcome Phil and the Gang aboard Discovery. With a 4am Lock-out booked with the marina, we arrived at the boat to find all of the guys waiting, so once everything was taken down to the boat, we cast off the lines and proceeded to the lock. The wind was forecast to have dropped off but Mersey Radio were still giving 30knots+ gusts.
So the original plan was to head up the river to a mark we normal fish for Cod, but due to the sea state we decided to stay at another mark just off the marina until the weather had eased enough for a comfortable days fishing. So we dropped the anchor and began fishing. The fishing started slow but after half an hour the first cod of the day was brought in by Kev, after this a few smaller ones were brought in. With an hour and a half fishing gone the wind had dropped enough for us to move to the original spot. The anchor was brought in and off we went. There was still a bit of a chop but nothing to how it was when we first left the marina. So we dropped the anchor again, and began fishing. Like before the fishing was quiet and the odd small cod was brought in.
As slack water approached a couple of 3lb cod were brought aboard. The wind had gone now and the Mersey was flat, so we decided to stay out for another hour after the marina gates opened to catch some more Cod and make up for the first lost hour of the day. It turned out to be in our favour as we moved to a spot further down the river and fished the last hour there. With a few more Cod being brought in and phil catching a nice plump 4lb 2 oz cod the day was drawing to an end and it was time to head in. With a few whiting to add to the mix, we ended up with 15 decent sized Cod.

As this was our last trip of the year the crew of Discovery would like to wish everyone a Happy and Fish filled New Year.
