    05,04,14 individuals trip.
We left the marina at 5am to headed out into the bay to try a few of the wrecks, the forecast was ok,but as we moved out of the river the wind was starting to gust, some of the gusts where 20 knots which with wind against tide it was to much to head offshore, so we had to resort to the back up plan fish in the river for an hour or two and then try the rock channel as the tide backs off,we set the anchor at a mark in the river and everybody caught whiting,Dabs,Dogfish and small thornbacks. We then moved into the Rock channel and started again,Taking more whiting some nice Dabs and plenty of Dogs,so another move was offered ,the Skipper was out voted so the skipper persuaded a majority vote in the end we moved to another mark where we dropped on 7 Thonback rays ,two Smoothounds and the fist Bass of the year which was returned for another day being undersize overall a great day with the Sun shining all day. nice to see Smoothounds and Bass making a return signs of summer.

The lads all individual anglers some who had been with us before and some first timers set about baiting there rigs up as we traveled to our chosen mark in the Mersey. We anchored and as soon as we had settled the lads started fishing Fossil was the first of the day to land a Codling unfortunately for him it was unhooked and quickly returned to the sea as it was under size the lads fished well all day. they ended up catching 25 codling
to take home from 2.5lbs to 3.7lbs we also had 1 whiting and a lot of undersize Codling. They enjoyed it that much that they booked the only have day we have left before we lift out for maintaince before we start offshore fishing in April dates are still available for this summer. Gary

    Saturday 22nd Febuary 2014
Harrys crew, We left the Marina at 5.45am and headed up the river to fish for Codling we dropped the anchor but with the tide and wind we did not sit how we wanted the boat to sit so we lifted the anchor up and reset it allowing for the tide we then asked the lads what fishing they had done, and selected the lads to uptide nobody had done this type of fishing so we set about showing one of the lads how to uptide all of the others selected to fish off the back of the boat ( downtide) With in 20 mins the fist codling was landed a nice 3 lbs. This gave the lads a bit of a boost so they all watched there Rods .Harry mind you was slightly distracted talking about roofing tiles and missed most likely one of the most fierce bites of the day actually bouncing his rod near enough out of the rest never mind Dannie made up for it landing a nice 6 lbs 7 oz Cod overall 16 cod keepers and plenty of small ones a great day with plenty of banter.

We left the marina at 8am in search of Cod the lads where all keen to get started i explained that we had had a great day the day before and hoped it was as good for them ,Well it was i asked if any one had ever used a uptide rod before with only one hand going up i selected another as well and set him up to show him how to uptide his name was mike so we rigged all the other lads up and got them fishing and then went back to Mike who had stood by waiting to fish, i explained the principles of up tiding to him and gave him a demo how to present his bait 15 mins later he had a knock and landed a 7lbs 3 oz Cod , by this time we had lost 3 people to the sea sickness bug.we dont usually have a problem with this but later found out a couple of jugs of wine and 6 pints of beer the night before a fishing trip is not good for your stomach or having a beer at 9.30 in the morning, Back to the fishing the lads recovered as the day went on and managed to bag 10 cod between 3lbs and 7lbs 3oz the banter flowed all day a good day was had by all
    cheers lads

January 2014 Cod fishing in the Mersey.
The month started off well with cod of 9lbs,8lbs, 7lbs,6lbs 5lbs and plenty around the 4lbs. And to top it of Kieran Heaps landed a fish of 14lbs 8oz. What a lovely Cod!!! The best day we had was 18 keepers and approx another 20 undersized codling and we where still catching whiting to 2lbs. Hopefully the fishing will continue into the spring due to the late run this year.

Pictured is Kieran and the Oldham Boys with a decent haul of fish. Well Done Kieran!
