First day back at sea, after the latest blow here at whitby . We worked a few wrecks today as the tides are slack.
From the off the rods were pulled over as the cod smashed the #shads . As the drift slowed we went on to baits to try and coax a croc out, but we only managed a couple between 9lb & 10lb.
We finished on a high note on a wreck, for the last half hour, the cod were still going crazy for shads with every rod every drift getting fish.

We've had a good week here at whitby on the Mistress when we could get out between the weather systems, cant believe its June and we're losing as many days as we are for the time of year!
We've seen a few double figure this week, and a few just shy of doubles too, so the bigger ones are starting to poke their noses out!
Our best day this week saw the lads boat well over 200 cod in under 8 hours! absolutely phenomenal fishing, The lads again kept what they wanted and threw lots and lots of fish back, the best lad had 35 cod himself, and a few other lads also boated over 30 cod apiece.
The best Cod went to Tom Toase from Helmsley and it went 11lb 5oz on the boat scales, the best Ling was 10lb 5oz to Rob Bailey from Rotherham,
The Ling got Rob on the leaderboard in our Current WCSA summer festival, he got a daily 2nd and its currently 2nd heaviest fish of the comp,
The festival runs for 3 weeks 20th June - 12th July, and there is a whopping £5000 up for grabs first prize, plus many other cash prizes over the event,

A day with a difference!
We hosted the Police force annual knockouts here at Whitby recently, the only difference was they wanted a species hunt instead of a biggest fish comp! we staill took ling into double figure from the wrecks, but we accounted for a fair few species too, infact we had the winner of the event on Mistress too,
Ray Canham who represented the C-Team for Northumbria won, with his team mates also fishing well his team won too, The boat took, cod, ling, pouting, whiting, haddock, plaice, dab, cuckoo wrasse,
The cuckoo wrasse was really striking, I'm sure its probably a port record it weighed in at 1lb 12oz for Dave Croskery.

ts been a while since my last update, we've had a couple of pretty good days here at Whitby now the whether has settled down enough to let us out again!
I had a bit of set back last week when my head gasket failed on my engine but it only took a couple of days to sort it, typical that it was while we got a couple of days good weather too!
We have managed two days on the belt now and prospects are looking promising for the rest of the week,
We are still getting some good sport on the #shads, with the lads catching a most of their fish on them, we also managed a few more strings of mackerel again today too, so there definately on their way now.

We had a new maxsea timezero 3D plotter earlier this year, we are now in a position to show some the ground we have marked since running with it.
its marked out the ground edges and reefs absolutely brilliantly here at whitby, it should come into its own when we start uptiding in october,
It marking our other reef systems well too, giving a birds eye view to all the fish holding nooks and crannies,

Summer is finally here - apparently!
It was a shabby start this morning at whitby as forecast, but it fell away sooner than i imagined - thankfully!
The eager lads took a steady picking through the morning until the weather eased back, then it was like a switch was thrown a quick move and the rods were bucking over to the tune of cod!
We moved around a few marks during afternoon as the sport fell away we moved and found fish everywhere we stopped!
The lads had heard through the grapevine that mackerel may be about, so with a bit of a concerted effort towards the end of the day manged a few strings a piece.
Plenty of nice cod for our anglers again today some really bonny fish landed most in the 4-5lb region.

Seeing as we managed a good yesterday, I couldn't resist heading back to the same area we were working,
We tried a couple of marks we fished yesterday but for very little reward so had to push a bit further afield, the fresh NW wind making it hard work for the lads too, but it all came good once that sea slowed down and we dropped on a few new spots.
It was a great laugh too, We had mostly regulars onboard so there was plenty of banter among ourselves all day.
We finished up nearly 20 miles from home and still banging fish out each drift on shads and bait, anyway we called lines up at around 1430hrs and took a steady steam home,
Many of you will have met my mate Alex who was onboard helping again today, anyway Alex took the wheel and I ended up filleting the whole way back home for the lads, I was sick of the sight of fish when we got back!
Another cracking day with plenty of fish all good stamp and ling just shy of double figures,

Absolutely awesome day wrecking on the Cod today here at Whitby
With the tides being really slack today, I had an inkling the inshore wrecks might show us a few fish to #shads and bait, there have been signs of the water clearing but the algae is still present in patches.
Although the action was never frantic all day we took a steady few each drift till it tailed off, so we'd move and start over, it worked well for us, with the best angler taking 26 today. a few of the other lads had 20+ cod bags too, and plenty of fish were returned as always.
The general stamp of fish was good with many between 4 & 7lb with the best topping out around 8lb.
The weather was stunning too with the sun shining on us all day.

Another absolutely belting day today here on Mistress ,
We started on the ground this morning and it was non stop until the tide eased and the fishing went off the boil.
So I had a bit of an idea that a move up the coast would pay dividends for us,and it did! not much showing on the ground but one of the wrecks on my plotter threw us some non stop action, the fish smashing the shads as soon as they hit the bottom with the rods bending into fish, drift after drift.
The best angler onboard today retained 18 cod and threw an amazing 20 back, bearing in mind most of the fish returned were well in size. All the anglers threw lots of in size fish back. everyone was over the moon again today.
Also a first - one of the lads landed a giant cock crab on a shad hooked in its claw joint!

The terrible may weather gave us another small window yesterday here at Whitby it was a bit of sloppy start with the fresh North Westerly, but we made the best of the day.
Other boats reported good fishing on the 5 mile recently, so thats where we started! we barely moved all day taking a steady picking, the fishing really hotted up as the tide eased and turned.
The lads were smashing the fish out for fun on shads . Sidewinder Sandeels, Rattlebacks and Minnows all taking the biggest bags. As always the conservation effort was great with plenty of fish returned, the best anglers landing the best part of 30 fish apiece
We finished up on par with one our best days so far this year the lads all beaming.
With all the fish we had to sort out, we made an early finish and got back to port around 3:30pm. Another absolutely top day!
