Today was The lads from Burton-on-Trent, 2nd outing from whitby this year with us,
We tried bait fishing and hokkais, but the fish seemed to want the shads, I recommended they get the 4" sidewinder sandeels, as they seem to be doing the damage just lately, no one colour outfished the rest, white, pink and rhubarb & custard all fished well.
I wouldn't say we had a startling day but a few flurries of fish in certain spots we fished kept the lads busy. A count up at the end of the end of the day revealed they'd managed a respectable 60 odd codlings between the 7 of them, There were a few pollock too and another rogue mackerel!
Needless to say they all enjoyed themselves, with plenty of crack onboard, they re-booked for next month,

With a window in the weather here at whitby we put to sea on a rather shabby forecast, we knew we would get at least half the day in and we did,
we dropped onto a bit a ground that hasn't really fished for a couple of years and was surprised to see signs of life as I cruised up and down the ground.
So 1st drop and we nailed 3 or 4 cod on the shads, tbh we continued all morning taking between 3 & 4 cod every drift, we also nailed a surprise Mackerel our first of the year! theyre very early this year
we continued until the swell got up a bit more with the fresh sw breeze pushing across it, I called lines up and we took a steady cruise inshore to drop the anchor on some soft ground to see if we could get picking of different species.
There must of been about a million Whiting on the soft as the lads were pulling them in 2 or 3 at time so no chance for any other fish to get a look in there.
we took a move to some hard ground and that was slow too so we called it a day, the lads were over the moon as we'd nailed 50-60 Cod before lunch.

The weather here at whitby has been an absolute pain the arse recently, keeping us in tied up! With a gap in the weather yesterday we managed to get a small crew of 4 together,
The good fishing continued for us the lads absolutely buzzing with the day, the 5 of us each nailing the best part of 25 cod apiece.
We got to our first mark and never left all morning, we dropped our shads and drift after drift every rod bent into fish, excellent sport on light gear.
The weather deteriorated as the day went on, and we moved mark to mark raking a few fish each spot but the afternoon definately slower than the morning
The biggest fish would of been maybe 8lb to Mike Dearing from Beverley, but most fish were in the 3-5lb bracket, Again the lads threw a few back apiece not being greedy and just keeping the best.

We are experiencing a stint of bad weather here at Whitby .
Its given me chance to to report on our last day at sea, where we easily topped 100 cod again for the 12 lads on board, Of course they never kept all their fish and returned a large quantity for another day.
The Cod were going absolutely bananas for shads of all colours and patterns, common place though the Rhubarb and Custard sidewinders having the edge on the other lures.
The signs are excellent at the minute for a bumper year out of Whitby this year, if you fancy a piece of the action, give me a call on 07977 436 903 or drop me a message on here on my FB page - Mistress Sea Angling Charters

The run of beautiful weather continues here at whitby, we had flat calm conditions and blazing sunshine all day!
We went back out to work the grounds between the 7 & 9 mile, we had a fairly steady run fo fish all day with plenty of fish for the lads again and plenty returned.
We finished up on slack water on a wreck where we took a few better fish to end the day, plus one of the lads lost a really nice fish too.
Never the less another successful day at sea shadding

21/4/15 - Absolutely fabulous weather here today at whitby We had a slow start inshore, so upped sticks got he hammers down and we were offshore shadding with in the hour!
We arrived on slack water but managed a few pollock on a ledge we fish regularly, as the tide got away we moved a liitle further offshore to a bit of ground I havent visited for a year or two, so was delighted when we started banging out codlings each drift, these were all 2lb stock so suggested we try somewhere else.
We had a move to a ridge with lots of lumps and bumps on it, each drift saw a good number of fish come aboard,it stayed like this all day pretty much, moving, picking up a few fish and moving and picking.
The 6 of us managed to rake up around 80 codling today on a mixture of shads and bait, the lads returned plenty of fish too.
I really wish I'd got more photos on this cracking day.
We managed joint 1st and 3rd today in the WCSA angling festival daily results

17/4/15 - Another top days wrecking today here at Wwhitby , I returned to where I'd finished off yesterday, I knew I'd left fish behind so returned for a second installment!
The fishing started much the same as it did yesterday morning, From the first drop, every rod bent into fish, again the quickest lads getting down for a 2nd fish on each drift.
It didn't seem to matter what colour or pattern of shad was offered, the cod were smashing them as soon as they hit bottom, we fished here all morning until the tide eased and the fish went off.
A quick move to wreck nearby for slack water saw us take a steady picking of fish to bait, including a couple of bonus Pollock to lures. Eventually the tide started pushing and we moved a little closer to home working a few ground marks.
The lads were getting a double hook ups of Codlings as we drifted with the start of the new tide, unfortunately as the tide started running full bore, the fishing tailed off and we set of for home, most of the lads manged on average around 20 fish apiece some more, some less, but there were lots of in size fish returned again by the lads.

The spring run of cod this year at whitby has been and continues to be phenomenal!
Today 16/4/15 has been the best day at sea since I started chartering full time in 2012.
We got away to slow start on a couple of wrecks on the way out to where I wanted to be, we were still catching fish but just a slow picking, until I made the move to where i wanted to be.
Drift after drift we got every rod into fish, some lads getting a second go at the fish, we carried on picking away until the tide eased and fishing also eased with it. We fished through slack water dropping big baits into the wreck looking for a festival contender, finally Andy Holmes from Castleton, managed to latch into something a bit better, a nice ling, it looked to be around 8/9lb, then his mate Martin boated a nice cod around 8lb.
The tide got away and we moved to another mark nearby, I could tell as soon as i saw the activity on the sounder we were in for some more fireworks!
As with the previous wreck, drift after drift every rod bent into fish, you could feel the fish fighting each other for the shads, by 2pm we had caught and returned lots of fish and I called lines up for a steady steam in to give the lads plenty of time to sort their catch.
Back at the weigh in Andy's fish managed to take 1st position of the day netting him £50, the Ling went 9lb 12oz making it the 2nd heaviest fish of the competition so far, as the tides ease again next week, we should see a few better fish start coming to the scales.

Another absolutely top day again today.
Matt and the lads from York took the boat today and what a blinder they had! as soon as we arrived at our wreck, the sounder said it all!
I wasn't surprised that drift after drift we had every single rod in on the boat. the fish were going bananas for the shads, no particular colour fishing better than the rest, I got biggest bag of 26 cod on a 3" ghost tiger storm shad.
Unfortunately no festival prize fish, the biggest just shy of 7lb, most were around the 4lb mark and giving the lads their due, they returned a lot of fish too, I seem to be seeing a lot more people returning fish lately, its great to see.
Needless to say the lads were all delighted with their catch today with us amassing between 80 & 90 Cod between the 5 of us.

Its been a day or two since we got away, we a had a bit of a disaster missing the weigh in the other day, so I was looking forward to wrecking staying fairly local for a change.
Conditions fell in place perfect today, and it turned out to be a blinder of a day. I only had six booked on, I told them we would be fishing within the hour and we were, we got off to slow start on our first wreck, so moved to one nearby, our 1st drift took 5 cod for the lads including a double shot of fish for one of the lads. we took a few more fish and I moved further off.
I got the lads on shads and the fishing was steady away with us getting between 3 & 5 fish a drift, before it tailed off a bit. We moved a gain for the start of the ebb, and it came alive! every rod was into fish fish every drift and those fast enough to get back down got another, so some drifts saw 9 or 10 fish.
The forecast was to come fresh so we started making our way back towards home stopping after a few drifts each spot, every time taking a good few.
The wind finally came and we returned just after 4pm, after a count up it apparent the lads had a great day taking well over 100 cod between them, with plenty returned for another day.
