Even though we got some good fish yesterday, the fishing was a bit slow for my liking, with this in mind I fished a different area today. and it payed dividends for us!

The fishing was never hectic but we got fish everywhere we stopped, the best lad, Mistress regular Ceiren from Cumbria took 16 Cod himself upto 7lb, Next best bag went to Matt from York who also fishes Whitby very regularly taking 10 or 11 himself, Ceirens mate Liam, who took a daily prize in the main summer festival also took 8 Himself. I think the daily tally was easily between 50 and 60 Cod for the lads today

Everyone had fish to take home.

Best baits again was squid and worm, also tipped with a bit mussel.

Today we have bettered our best fish so far this uptiding season,

The lad called Big C ( by his pals ) from Birmingham, took the best fish today just a smidge under double figures, the fish was in fantastic condition, was taken on one of our Daiwa Kenzaki Hire rods, coupled up with a Slosh 30, braid main line, the bait was squid and worm presented on a pennel rig with 5/0 hooks.

So lads with only a couple of days left until the festival the big ones are starting to show!

We still have a few spaces left, so drop me a line if youre interested

With a break between the winds, we got to sea on Saturday with Colin and the lads from Gratham,

It didnt take long for us to start nailing a few fish. the lads fished steady all through the day, even with such a small tide the fish continued to feed all day even through slack water.

The best bait by far was squid and black lug worm.

Between them they amassed a good catch of between 40 and 50 codlings to keep, plus a good few chuck-back codlings under 40cm. there were a good few in the 3lb to 5lb range. biggest would have been around 6lb.

We still have a few places on the Uptiding Festival starting next month, if you're interested in getting among the Winter Cod give me a call on 07977 436 903

    WCSA Autumn Festival.

Over the event we saw many good fish weighed in with a great effort from the skippers in the fleet and also the participating anglers.
Here on Mistress we took the top spot, with a cracking Ling of 21lb 11 1/2oz. The fish fell to Harry from Rochdale, with him winning a total prize of £1050 for his efforts. It was Harrys first time fishing so it goes to show to dont have to be experienced to win! you just need a dollop of beginners luck! well done mate.

We also took overall 3rd heaviest fish, with another good ling of 20lb 6 1/2oz for local angler Gary Smith from Whitby.

Other notable fish was one of 18lb 3 1/2 oz for John Holder of Malton. we also took many fish from 10lb to 17lb

I would like to extend a massive thankyou to all participants and sponsors for the event, without your continued support we wouldnt be able to hold the events.

Following a successful day fishing the reefs here at Whitby on Sunday, taking a good few fish in to double figures, the best being 14lb 8oz, We had an evening trip booked with one of my regular anglers and his family. Marks kids are only young so to start with i suggested we have a crack at the uptiding to start with before going offshore for a few mackerel, seeing as I caught a few codlings from the shore the other night as well as getting plenty of bites.

We got bites withing a few minutes of settling into anchor, and took several codling around 40cm in length, then young Sam got a better bite which resulted in a nice codling which took the boat scales to 4lb 12oz, we got a few more fish, then decided to head for a few Mackerel to finish the session with.

All in all to say we only fished for around half an hour taking half a dozen codling was quite a good sign for the up coming uptiding season, which i believe will start early this year.

We are currently experiencing a big northerly & when it dies down and we get back to sea on Thursday I think we will get fish uptiding. I currently have no one booked on and only need three people to make it viable for the day, if you fancy having ago at some early season inshore codling, give me a buzz on 07977 436 903

    cheers

    Rich
