The weather and conditions, as Im sure you all have heard has been extremely disappointing so far this year.
This time last year we were catching fish by the boat load, and had a great start.

This year has to be the worst I can ever remember, saying that, the lads have still been keen to get to sea and try their hand, both saturday and sunday we travelled well off to some distant wrecks in the search of good fishing. Unbelievably the clarity was affected 25 miles + offshore following the last northerly sea.

both days saw us get our first mackerel of the season. we caught fish both day but not in any great numbers. sunday saw us boating a lot of mackerel. we still caught cod, pollock and coalie too.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On monday I only had a few lads booked on and the forecast was far from brilliant meaning we would have to stay inshore, with this in mind, we planned to uptide fish with the lads (absolutely unheard of by the end of may!) the tide was slack when we headed out so we fished on the soft ground until the tide got away fully, taking lots of dabs and whiting (just to keep the rod tips rattling). we moved as soon as the tide started and we managed a few cod, falling to fresh lug the lads had dug the day before.

the day was slow and we caught codlings most places we stopped on the hard ground, the first push of the flood saw a few codling falling to cart. we finished up with around ten codlings for the day between us hundreds of whiting and few dabs.

the water should clear out soon and the fishing should go ballistic judging by the feed marks everywhere

Another window in the weather yesterday saw us putting to sea. 6 lads took the boat on an all inclusive team building exercise.

The water is clearing all the time, but there doesnt seem to be the feed marks there that we normally get this time of year, it seems as though everything is running a bit late with the water temperature down on the same time last year following those dreadful easterly winds we had a while back.

we started out fishing some 5 miles offshore and took fish first drop, the lads steadily picked away taking a few fish
the better fishing came on the afternoon tide where we moved to one of my favourite wrecks where we finished the day on a high note having a mad hour!

The lads managed a respectable 30 to 40 codlings all on shads and sidewinders.

Now all we are waiting for is another break in the weather to get back at them!

This weekend was a bit shabby weather wise and a bit lumpy!

Regardless of conditions we were rewarded with some better fishing closer to shore than we have been working.

We saw a mixture of Cod, Ling and Pollock, caught on lures and bait.

The best fish this weekend was a cracking Pollock well into double figures for Brian,

The water is clearing by the day now, and we have hopefully seen the last of the algae,

Fishing is definately on the turn here at Whitby.

Craig and his pals from Network Rail in Manchester had some nice fish today.
Graham landed the biggest fish of the season so far aboard Mistress - An absolutely belting 26lb Ling.

It came from a distant wreck some 2 1/2 hour steam away from port. Caught on squid bait just as the flood tide started pushing.

Graham was using our Daiwa Hire tackle kindly donated by Daiwa earlier this year.
It consisted of a 20/30 Sea Hunter and a Slosh 30 multiplier

    Well done Graham

We have had a fantastic day today at sea,
The weather has been as close to summer as it gets!

The fishing was a bit slow through the day while we searched for a few fish, we worked our way offshore stopping on a few wrecks on the way taking the odd fish from them as we went.

Luckily the last wreck we stopped on threw up a good few fish for the lads, giving us a mad hour and Deano (my crewman) a bit of a workout with the net! we had fish up to 10lb in weight,
The lads left with a good bag of fish each with some nice conditioned early season fish amoung them.

The water is definately clearing, with us nailing some good fish this week each day we have been.

Pictured are todays lads with some of their fish, they couldnt pose with them all!

We managed a day at sea today, and finally something worth reporting! the fishing here at Whitby has been a bit patchy of late, there appears to be signs of the water clearing at last.

Although we never caught masses of fish today we manged to locate a few on one of the reefs here at Whitby on blue and white shads.

The signs are there for the water beginning to clear out for the summer shadding.

We still have some dates available in June and July - considered the best months for cod fishing here at Whitby - If you fancy a trip drop me an Email at seafishingwhitby@hotmail.co.uk or call me on 07977 436903

    Cheers

    Anyone Fancy a Species Hunt?

    Right folks,
looking at possibly having a crack at a species hunt, once a month, I still have to devise a points system for the day for the species, winner will receive a Mistress Hoody.

dabs, plaice, rays, halibut, pollock, coalies, cod , ling, ,mackerel, whiting, pouting, dogffish, sunfish, poor cod, weavers, there will be more but just pulled these of the top of my head,

I will be looking at anchoring and drfiting both soft and hard ground and also inshore wrecks

if your interested please get in touch with me on here or phone me 07977 436903 , or e-mail me at seafishingwhitby@hotmail.co.uk

We fished Thursday this week with favourable conditions allowing us to get to sea.
With only two people booked on we stayed inshore uptide fishing.

It was a steady day really, biggest fish was around 6lb in weight, with everyone getting around half a dozen Cod each. Everybody caught fish to take home and with only three of us fishing we managed between 15 and 20 Cod between us. There were plenty of Pouting and Whitings caught too, just to keep the rod tips ratting.

Baits used were Squid, black lug, peeler crab, cart and razorfish.

We managed our first day at sea today for weeks due to the bad weather.
With us just having had a set of northerlies, plenty of colour in the water and spring tides, we gave the uptiding a shot.

The sport was steady all day with plenty of fish for the lads onboard. the fish were all in the 2lb to 6lb bracket. with around 40 codlings taken all day.

The best rod took in excess of a dozen codlings losing a few too.
The fish were favouring cart today but the lads fishing with worm and squid also took plenty of fish.

We managed to get a trip to sea on Sunday after being tied up alongside for nearly 3 weeks. The weather gods were finally on our side for change!

We went uptiding as we had a bit of breeze from the SW and we had a fairly large tide too.

I had a mixed party onboard of 6, and given the time of year they fished quite well, everyone taking a few fish for the table.

Best angler was Rich from the Boro with 9 Cod to take home which he caught mainly on fresh Lug.
Other baits that produced were, Frozen Lug, Crab Cart, Mussel, Squid, Peeler and cocktails of the said baits.

we finished up with around 35 Cod for the day to take home, we caught Cod, Whiting, Pouting, Lesser Spotted Dogfish and a rogue Dab!

Pictured is Ben from the Boro with his best two fish of the day.
