Finally a break in the weather after the big northerly. Expectations were running high with the colour of the water like chocolate and the recent shore catches I had an inkling we might be in for a bit of sport today.

We steamed out to one of our local uptiding hotspots, and got the anchor down.
Litterally before I had had chance to bait up one of the lads was already in to a fish.
I got the fish netted and it seemed we couldnt go wrong! everyone was into fish, nothing massive all around the 3lb to 6lb mark.

We carried on until the tide eased and had a couple of moves, catching fish everywhere we stopped. With a hour or two of the day left we had one last move, and glad we did as we seemed to have a steady hour again boating around another dozen fish.

The anglers fished well today with a few different spiecies boated, including a lobster for Steve. The biggest fish of the day was around 7lb in weight, nothing huge but we had plenty of them!

Baits used included squid, black gulley worm, mussel and crab cart.

Not strictly a boat report here, but with the strong northerly storm we have just encountered here at Whitby, there has been some exellent shore caught catches.

The people who know me, will know Im a very keen angler and enjoy my shore fishing. I fished Friday, Saturday and Sunday, each day producing some lovely cod, the sea colour at the minute is like chocolate and the uptiding, as soon as we get out this week will be absolute dynamite, the fish will be feeding hard and confidently after the blow up.

Last night (Sunday) was our local club match, there were several fish weighed in between 6lb and 8lb and the biggest bag was well over 20lb in weight.

Dont miss the good fishing folks, get booked on this week for some Uptiding there is a better than average chance of some double figure Cod.
You dont have to book the boat, with us uptiding I will sail with a minimum of two anglers.

you really couldnt believe how different two days at sea could be.

yesterday saw us filling the boat with some really nice fish, they seemed to be jumping aboard! yet today we had to work alot harder for the fish we landed. everyone landed a few fish for the table.

It was a slow day but it was well worth the effort steaming off as we were rewarded with an absolute cracking Cod of around 18lb for Warren Bets. he fished the best today, landing around 6 different spiecies himself, including Cod, Ling, Pouting, Whiting, Plaice and Herring.

What a cracking day we had today!

With the tides being a bit lively still and the clarity not being exactly perfect, we decided on a run offshore to work the wrecks on the 20 mile stream.
The tide times werent perfect either so I got the crew gathered for a 630am sailing to get an extra hour of tide to help us on our way!

The first wreck yielded nothing! so we steamed a further 3 miles to our next wreck, Bingo! we fished steadily for a couple of hours, taking fish on all patterns and colours of shad and also squid. The bait took the better fish.
everyone onboard had some lovely cod to take home by the time we finished at our 2nd wreck.

With an hour or two left we moved to wreck nearby, and with a few drifts we had the fish boxes bulked out further, a couple of the drifts had Deano running round like a headless chicken with the net, with fish all around the 8lb - 9lb mark.
A good finish to the end of an already good days angling aboard Mistress

    October 2012

We are still only half way through October I know, the weather has turned a bit now, but the fishing still remains good here at Whitby when we can actually get to sea.

The past couple of weeks the water inshore has coloured due to a few days of bad weather, meaning we have had to search futher afield for the fish. The days we have got offshore working the wrecks 20 miles + from Whitby, we have experienced some exellent days sport for the anglers aboard Mistress. The days have seen a rod average easily of 10-15+ fish per angler on the shads.

As the month draws on the weather may give us some bad conditions, the strong SW winds allow us to fish inside at anchor, boat casting for the cod. The shore fishing season has started now (being a keen shore angler I know what is being caught up and down the coast), there are alot of codling in the 2lb to 4lb bracket being caught and we are seeing fish approaching double figures also.

The uptide competition runs November 10th to 18th and Im sure we will see some cracking fish weighed in, there are still a few places available, please contact me on 07977 436 903 to secure your places, Mistress won the Uptiding competition last year taking 1st and 3rd place.

The Autumn festival has now come to a close this year, the best fish weighed in was just shy of 24lb. Unfortunately on Mistress we missed the top place by just 3lb!!!

Although we didnt get the top prize this year on Mistress, we did get alot of decent fish for our anglers. We entered the festival 10 times throughout this competition (everyday I got to sea), we had many fish in the teens, two great ling just short of 20lb, a few PB's and many lost fish too! (just look at the gallery from the 8th to 23rd Sep)

I would like to thank all the anglers taking part on my boat and others, without your continued support we wouldnt be able to run these popular events. I would also like to thank the weigh masters who did an exellent job in weighing, photographing and reporting each day.

Pictured is Chris Gibson with our heaviest fish of the compeition - A nice Ling of 19lb 12 1/2oz, it won him a daily 1st prize, well done mate

Had to cancel today with poor weather - yet again!

Winter is only just round the corner now, with prospects for uptiding still looking good. Remember there is a competition running 10th to 18th November with £1000 up for grabs!

The last three days at sea we have seen plenty of fish aboard Mistress, with a lift in tides to springs I have concentrated more on finding a few cod, I feel that the shads fish a bit better on the bigger tides as long as we have clear water. The lads have been heading for home with upto and over dozen Cod per person. Most of the fish have been in the 3lb to 5lb range, with a few pushing 7 or 8lb.

We have dropped onto the wrecks going to, over and out of slack water finding a few Ling hoping for a better one to poke his head out! we managed another decent one on the 15th, Mistress regular Mark Storey got one which weighed in at 14lb 9oz, unfortunately he just got knocked into 4th place on the daily board, only missing it by a lb or so.

Still plenty of mackerel showing here at whitby too.

The Whitby autumn angling festival is in full swing at the minute (when weather allows us), so with the small tides we had a full day on the wrecks.

The day started slowly, and it took a couple of wrecks before we took some fish, but once we started boating a few we managed to take a steady picking picking all day.

We managed a number of fish well into double figures today, the biggest went 18lb 7oz to Mistress regular Andy Officer from Hull, the big fish got Andy second prize on the daily prize board.

Pictured is Andy with his Ling

There are still a few places available next week, Book in with a chance to win £1000 for the biggest fish.

The last week has been a bit up and down to say the least, referring more to weather than anything else. On the days we have got to see we have been getting amoungst the fish again, last monday started great with some exellent cod fishing to shads, but as the tides eased we gave a bit more focus to wrecking and boated some respectable fish, with Cod and Ling into high teens in weight. The weather looks to have beaten us again for few days, so has given me a bit of time to get some reports and photos onto the interent!
