Fishing here at Whitby has been absolutely dynamite the last few weeks,
the lads on the 4th June managed an absolute cracker of a haul, they had caught so much fish we were back tied up at 2pm, and it took us 3 hours to fillet it all.
All were caught on shads and light gear, great sport!

My wife, eldest son and myself have just had two fabulous days fishing with Rich and Dean on Mistress at Whitby. I cannot reccommend this outfit highly enough. Rich was constantly working hard to find us fish on different marks, Dean was working tirelessly netting fish, sorting out tangles and giving encouragement to everone aboard, always with a smile on his face and a kind word. We have fished on many charter boats in the area and this team and boat is by far the most professional, committed, helpful and friendly we have come across. My wife took a personal best pollock of around 6lbs and I had a personal best ling and cod of 13lbs and 9.5lbs respectively. The lads shared their knowledge and experience with us regarding fishing with sidewinders and bait. We returned home with loads of cod, ling and pollock fillets all nicely filleted by the lads. If you want a great days fishing off Whitby on a superb boat with a totally committed crew then dont look any further than Rich and Dean on Mistress. We shall be booking again once we can find some space in the freezer!!!!! Thanks again guys, Steve, Chris and Rick from Doncaster.

7 of us went out on a 10hr wrecking trip with rich cope on the mistress and we were very lucky to get out as the previous few days weather had been poor.we set out with shads and sidewinders and was instantly made very welcome by Rich who gave us some tips and pointers as a couple of the lads had not been wrecking before,we started catching cod and pollack almost immediately and the exitment grew quickly as all the lads had fish within 2 drifts.at slack tide the catch rate slowed down but the stamp of the fish improved with each drift. Rich moved straight away to another wreck if we wewnt more than one drift without catching and set about his work with gusto making sure we were getting the best from each wreck and getting the net ready for the larger fish without delay.Rich is a credit to the whitby charter boats helping us get the best out our day and passing on tips to improve our catch rate and nothing was too much trouble for him.We went back to the harbour over an hour early due to the fact that all our cool boxes were full of quality cod and pollack and all the lads were grinning with delight after a very successful day.we found out later that most of the other charters that went out that day struggled to locate fish but we had no such problems mostly because Rich sought out wreck after wreck for us and put in a great effort to make sure bwe had an excellent day.the 2 new guys were so entrhalled by the experience they have purchased their own rods and reels for future trips. Thanks for your time and patience Rich you made our day out on your boat a special one. cheers nidge whitehurst

Finally a break in the weather saw us getting out for few hours. I started the day around 5 miles from whitby and having took a few fish to about 6lb decided to stay in the area and work a few marks nearby. The fishing was never hectic but we took a steady picking of fish every drift, we had a PB cod for a lad which was only about 6-7lb, ling to 10lb, and pollock and cod to about 8lb. all fish fell to sidewinders and shads, rhubarb and custard the best colour. all in all a good day, lets just keep our fingers crossed for better weather so we can get back at them!

I planned on anchoring today to see if we could nail another biggy for the festival. The water had a bit of green algae tinge in it again, but on arriving at the mark there was feed swarming all over, so I told the lads to drop shads on the off chance of nailing a few before anchoring. All rods went straight into fish! result! the water cant have been as coloured as first thought. well we scrapped the idea of anchoring as we took a steady picking of cod all day long most people leaving with 12+ fish each, although we caught nothing enormous we enjoyed sport with cod pushing 8lb on shads and light gear.

What a great day we had today. unfortunately I was let down by some anglers and only had two remaining anglers, but I sailed anyway. we stayed close inshore and it was quite hard hard work. we had a mixed bag of cod, ling and whiting until the last hour when we latched into something a little bigger! it took around quarter of an hour to bring up, we were surprised to see a halibut! weighed officially at whitby angling supplies it went 56lb, only 12oz short of the port record.

With the algae bloom colouring the water as it is at the minute and tides being as lively as they are, we had a run off the wall yesterday. I had group of novices onboard so fishing was a bit slow, we managed to get a few fish for the lads though we got a nice double figure cod for Ian, and also managed a ling into double figures. The lads left happy though having caught a few between them.

With the small tides we decided on a days wrecking, with virtually no wind all day it was perfect. we worked a few wrecks on the 4 mile, the sport wasnt hectic but we took a steady picking of cod everywhere we stopped, the biggest of the day went 8 1/2lb for Mick Thurlow, which is a new PB for him. the majority of the fish were in the 4-6lb bracket. We also managed a a cat fish which are a bit of rarity, nice to see though.

With the huge tides last weekend we decided on a days uptiding, probably the last day uptiding until next winter. I fished with paul on sea otter 2 the day before and got a few fish, so expectations were quite high.
Myself, regular lads, Ray and Alan, and killer jumped aboard, and off we set to fish the ebb tide.
It was slower than the day previous, but out of the 6 hour session Ray had 4 fish, Alan had a few killer managed a couple and I managed 1! the fish were all between 2lb and 5lb, it was a fantastic day at sea just like a summers day.

Today saw settled weather again, so with only a couple of lads interested in a trip we set sail for a bit of winter uptiding. we had a good spring tide today with plenty of tide to get the fish feeding. we had a great start with me catching a fish touching 10lb, but the rest of the day proved a bit slow despite a few moves. we finally called it day when the heavens opened and we got a dollop of snow!
