  • 31/07/2015 Fishing Report by Mike Jones

31 Jul 2015 by Mike Jones

Our fishing club went out with Alan Jones skipper of the Happy Hooker for our annual Bass trip and he didn’t let us down again. Alan even managed to sort out the weather, at 7.45 am we arrived at the quay side on a bright sunny day. Access to the boat is now very easy thanks to the improvements at Saundersfoot Harbour.
We set off and steamed out past Caldey Island where Alan found his mark. Tackle was a flowing trace with live Sandeel the drifts were short and we were soon into fish. With the quota now only 3 bass by late morning we were just about bagged up. Alan then took us to a different mark were we finished the Bass and took Pollack, Gurnard, mackerel and of course the ubiquitous Scylorhinus canicula or better known locally as the Swansea Dog.
Alan was yet again on top form with his wit and keen to provide advice to ensure we were all maximising our opportunity to catch fish, tea and coffee were plentiful as well. We would thoroughly recommend Alan and the Happy Hooker for any skill level be you an experienced club fisherman or novice, good value for money.
