This weekend has seen a bit of different types of fishing tried and with some mixed results and wind being a big factor but still the quality of the fish has been superb, from rough ground and reef fishing which included some nice gurnards along with dogfish, pout and abundance of mackerel, small Pollock and a lonely 14lb wreck cod.

Sunday was inshore wrecking at anchor with the aim of conger eels and bream and the lads were not disappointed with congers up to 70lb and all released at the side of the boat as the anglers not wanting to harm the fish, 9 eels broke the surface and 7 more lost during battle, we then decided to try out luck with bream and again Spot On was Spot On with some massive specimens coming on board along with loads of pouting, huge scad and lots of mackerel.

Biggest Bream fell to Mark Wellington of Plymouth with a massive fish of 5lb 6oz.

Thanks guys and look forward to seeing you soon to beat even more of your 'PB's

Spot on had a weekends fishing on 24th and 25th August, wind to be fair was not the best with the weather man getting things wrong, still we didn't let this bother us when we headed out in search of Bass on Saturday and we were soon bringing up 4-7 bass per drift, all were caught on lures as live baiting would have been a bit hectic with having 11 anglers on the boat, the guys managed 65 bass in total with the biggest only being 6lb 9oz caught by Charlie morgan on the last drift of the day.
I would like to say thanks for the guys for fishing for sport and returning over 30 fish.

Sunday saw slightly calmer winds and we headed out for a fun day in search of all sorts, we started on the bass again and took 4 fish on 5 drifts, we then decided to head inshore on the reefs and drop the anchor, we were blessed with a great species hunt with a total of 12 species being landed which included the following:
Black Bream, Bass, Conger eel, Cuckoo wrasse, Thornback ray, Tub gurnard, Whiting, Mackerel, Scad, Pouting, Dogfish and Pollock.

Pictured is Saturdays crowd with the few Bass they kept for the plate after returning over 30 fish.

Spot On has been out in search of Bass whilst wrecking and the lads were not disappointed with a private hire one day of just 3 anglers taking some nice Bass with the smallest being 6lb's and the biggest taken just over 10lb.

Cod have been a little slow due to the larger tides we have had lately but I am sure we have not seen the last of them yet.

But the first trip of August did through up another 20lb'er so spot on is continuing were July left of averaging a 20lb'er per trip.

The bass have mainly been caught on live baits however we did see the first caught on lures and snagged 3 in one day on lures so things are looking up.

    First wrecking of August 2013.

Spot On was brave to face the first weekends weather in august 2013 and ventured out to the offshore wrecks in search of some nice Cod.

Fishing was patchy with a few fish coming here and there but we continued to search wreck to wreck picking up what we could.

Everyone caught some nice prime fish with the biggest taken by Mark Wellington of Plymouth with a nice fish of 20lb 2oz. His son also got in on the action with a 15lb 2oz being his biggest Cod of the day. we had some smaller Pollock and some nice ling up to 15lb, the biggest surprise of the day was a 65lb Conger eel taking the ling bait on a drift, the fish was released at the side of the boat to the relief of some on board who did not want to share the deck with the fish.

July was a very good month for Cod on Spot On with 10 fish over 20lb and 70 fish over 10lb.
Not Bad for only 10 trips.

Lets hope august continues to produce and thank you all for supporting Spot On of Brixham.

First trip of august 2013 saw Spot On steaming to the skerries from brixham (only a 40minute steam) to fish for plaice.

A lovely day was to be had weather wise and the fishing was good too with boat totals for plaice at 90 fish, most returned alive and few taken for tea.

Other species included Red gurnard, Tub gurnard, Grey gurnard, mackerel, sand eels and Dabs.

All in all for seven anglers, a couple who were novices did very well and thank you for choosing Spot On Charters and hope to see you again soon.

    Jul 2013 by Ross Parham

July Has proved to be a great month weather wise and Spot On has been getting out as often as bookings allowed.
Some great fish caught so far this month with still good Cod fishing with lots of 20lb+ fish and still some bigger ones snapping the guys up as they seem to be in really fit shape and hard fighting, Pollock and Ling are still making appearances.

SPOT ON is officially winner of the Dartmouth Pub angler of the year competition which took place on Friday 12th July (Wrecking) with a Cod of 17lb 9oz.

Spot On is now pleased to offer specialised shark trips and with her be longer than most charter boats we can fish 6 rods with ease.
These trips will be 12, 14, 16+ hours.

Best Blue was estimated at around 80lb but unfortunately this was lost at the side of the boat trying to get her in for a pic, the best on the boat was 73lb.

Taking bookings for 2014 on the new boat (hopefully) and channel island interest is heating up so get in early to get your number one choice.

    Jul 2013 by Ross Parham

The last weekend of June and first day into July has produced some nice fish both on the skerries banks for plaice and the channel wrecks for Cod, Pollock and ling.

Plaice seem to be getting fatter with the average fish now hitting around 1lb 8oz - 2lb mark, some nice 3lb specimens also landed and still good totals with 70 fish landed on the boat the day we were there.

Wrecking has been producing some fine specimens of Cod and even bigger ones getting away.

The last three days fishing both on the skerries and the wrecking has produced 13 species which include:
Cod, Pollock, Ling, Haddock, Whiting, Pouting, John Dory, Mackerel, Plaice, Dogfish, Red gurnard. Tub gurnard and Dabs.
Mackerel have arrived so the bass should be showing soon.

    Jun 2013 by Ross Parham

Spot On was blessed with some summer weather at last and zero winds as we ventured out to the wrecks in search of Cod.

Some really nice specimens landed and some even bigger ones lost as the guys were using very 'sporting' tackle.

As you can see it was another good haul and everyone on board caught some prime summer Cod.

Other species included a small ling, whiting, Pollock and pouting.

Biggest fish fell to fellow charter skipper from Cardiff Steve Jones with a fish of 16lb 8oz.

Still plenty of spaces available on board Spot On out of Brixham Devon for a fraction of the price compared to many other ports that fish these waters.
And in my opinion the home of wreck fishing!

Pictured is a couple of fish taken on the same drift, we again had good numbers and good size of fish.

    Jun 2013 by Ross Parham

Wrecking from Brixham on Spot On has been energetic to say the least this last weekend with a massive haul of fish, Cod a few Pollock and a ling made up the days catch.

    The numbers are as follows:
A huge haul of Cod, a few Pollock and a ling caught on Spot On! from Brixham Devon. over 300 Fish, 36 Doubles which included the following 2x23lb, 1x19lb, 2x16.5lb, 3x16lb, 3x15.5lb, 4x15lb, 4x14b, 6x12lb, 11x10-11lb. Just wish every day was this good, 10 anglers and 10 bent rods pretty much every drift.

Pictured is a few of the fish on the deck.

The skerries continue to fish well with good numbers of plaice being caught and a massive fish of over 7lb landed by a private boat.
Spot On! is only a short steam away from the skerries and will guarantee you at least 8 hours fishing time on the banks. So more time with lines in the water.
