Just a little rant..... again...!!! I had the very sad misfortune to have some really nice guys on the boat last Wednesday, you may have read my report on my fishing page.
They were sadly late by an hour due to a car crash on the M 25 so the day didn't get off to a great start, we missed a vital hour of ebb tide and with 42 mph winds blowing it was important to get to as much wind and tide together as possible, but it . is was what it was...!!
But....!!! here comes the part that really hurt, the boys that were late from Kent, cancelled all future charters with me, saying they didn't want to drive all the way from Kent just to blank..!! well in fact no one blanked all had fish albeit some only got Whiting, doggies, Pouting, while other did get half a dozen Codling between them, before moving back into the river for the flood tide due to the strong winds, but the small tide 4.8 mtrs took an age to start to run, and when we did get some tide, we had little time left to fish, but we did get another 2 Codling at the end of the day in the river....
But the boys cancelling their trips was sad enough, but the reason for them cancelling their trips was the real kick in the guts.!!! it turned out, one of my regular anglers "Ken Pipe" who has fished with me for over 10 years, and one of my fellow charter skippers Lee Bollingbrook on Sophie Lee, told my customers... and I quote word for word his damming advice to lads.....
HE SAID " IT IS COMMON PLACE TO GO OUT AND HAVE A BAD DAYS FISHING...!! AND THAT COD THAT WERE CAUGHT ..3-4 LBS IS ABOUT AS BIG AS THEY GET..!! AND SAID IF HE WAS US, AND LIVE SO CLOSE TO THE SOUTH COAST, HE WOULD 100% BE FISHING DOWN THERE..!!"
it was on the back of this hideous advice, the Kent boys cancelled all trips.
Well this is a chap who sadly contracted cancer a few years ago, and glad he was treated successfully..., but when I think, Nicola and I phoned him almost every week to see how he was ? and how his treatment was going? and offered him trips out on the boat, not to fish, just a boat ride while he was convalescing , at no charge, just to get him out of the house, and have some company..... he treats us like that... it is sickening, talk about the enemy within, Ken has a very nasty streak in him, and I am with great sadness banning him from ever stepping on our boat again, the money is not important, it is the principle that matters to me, and I would love it if Lee Bollingbroock would do the same, and if Ken thinks the South Coast is so appealing the Fu****k off down there and stripe someone else up, because you are not welcome here any more.. and by the way mate, as far as fishing Technic goes you have no idea ken, you really do suck at fishing, do you know what everyone says about you..??? you are someone with all the gear, and no idea..!!! and that really sums you pal, we just didn't like to tell you, but when you mess with our livelihood, then the gloves come off.
You know what Ken, ever heard the old WW II saying ....
""LOSE LIPS COST LIVES "" in our case our livelihood..!! so you might want to think and engage your brain before opening your big mouth...!!!
I don't think we have ever been more disappointed in anyone, as we are in you......
All I can say to any charter boat skipper around Essex, if Ken Pipe calls you to make a booking, beware it could cost you dear...!!!!!
    Rant well and truly OVER..!!!!!
Ps: The Photo shown is of this vindictive little man Ken Pipe..

Bloody wind...!!!! we woke up yesterday (21/10/15) and once again the wind was howling from the SW, but we did have options..!! either stay in the river Blackwater all day, or push on Eastward some 12 miles, and we could fish the last two hours of the ebb tide with wind and tide together... we should have had three hours of ebb to fish but sadly there was a crash on the motorway which made half of our party from Kent an hour late..!! which kind of didn't go down too well with the rest of the party, but as a skipper. knowing the boys were on the road, I really had to wait for them, because if I just left without them, we would have been around £250.00 out of pocket, and I am sure no one would have volunteered to pay double to make up the shortfall, but as irritating as it was, no one can help a motorway crash... so we just waited for them.

Nice bunch of lads, and when we finally got out of the marina, we put the pedal to the metal and cruised Vanishing Point-2 to 24 knots and was down on the fishing ground in about 30 minutes.

Once we got fishing, it wasn't long before the first doggies and Whiting started coming over the side, then after about 25 minutes the first Codling caught by Ken Pipe rolled into the boat, then Colin got one, then Ken got another one...! then Colin replies with a second Codling.... blimey it was like the Ken and Colin show....lol.

But with the wind increasing to 42 mph and the tide was dying on it's feet, I waited to the last possible minute to pull the anchor and head back to the river, I would have liked to have taken a slow ride back, but with the wind blowing hard against what little tide there was, the sea was quite lumpy, about 1.2 meters and my boat don't like to go slow in a heavy sea so I had to bring her up to 20 knots plus and iron out the sea, put on a movie and head back to the comfort of the river.

Once anchored up in the Backwater, we lay more to wind, as the tide was quite small, 5.2 metres, so after a while we deployed our drogue, which after a short while did pull the boat round the right way..!!!

Once settled the boys started caching Whiting, crabs... lots of Crabs...dough..!! then we saw another couple of Coding come to the boat before it was time to go home..... It wasn't the best day we ever had, but we can only play the hand we are dealt..!! but all the lads, well most of the lads, enjoyed their day and vowed to return to fish another day... like next week..!!! and hopefully the weather will be kind to us and we can catch them a nice feed of plump fresh Cod and Skate.....Tight lines..!!!!!!!!!!!

18 Oct 2015 by TERRY BATT

Hi everyone... as usual the weather on Friday 16th Oct was very unsettled and very windy, we left Bradwell at 0645 and there was something very strange,,, it was pitch black...!!!! I remember thinking to myself, well winter is really here, soon we will be going out in the darkness, and returning in the dark,
Well needless to say we didn't venture very far, as the strong winds depicted as to where we could fish... THE RIVER..!! but after Wednesdays successful day I was not too worried about the prospect of the river knowing now, there are some very good fish to be had.
I was well pleased at all the deck lighting I had installed in April this year, so the entire deck area of Vanishing Point 2 is very well lit, it looked like a floating aircraft runway... lol..
But we got to our fishing mark in less than 5 minutes, and started fishing, we had the usual Whiting, a few doggies, then we started to get the lovely size Codling coming through.
Over the course of the day we racked up around 15 Codling, and a few Skate, and another angling boat out of West Mersea
( Saucerer) with skipper Ray on a jolly by himself, called me and said he had 10 Codling all by himself, and he only fished up until high water then went in, but great fishing in just a few short hours..!!!
Well on Saturday 17 th Oct, the weather had moderated somewhat, but I choose to have the first hour in the river once again as I didn't want to waste valuable ebb tide steaming, I would wait until slack water before moving East off of Clacton, when we did arrive in the Clacton area, and stetted, the wind and tide were almost together, and we all sat there very comfortable, and the fish started coming over the side nice and steady.
I must admit my heart went into my mouth when I had dropped my anchor, as I had seen " Carl on HARD LABOUR" just South of where I wanted to fish, and as all of us do, is not to infringe on another skipper space...... but after I had dropped that anchor, I was horrified to see Carl's boat out of my rear wheelhouse door...!! argh.. I thought dam it I'm on his line, but on reflection we were not into tide more laying to wind, but I did call Carl and said once we were into tide properly if I was too close on his line I would of course move and show him the professional respect you would expect yourself... but once the tide started to run, all boats pulled into tide and we were miles apart..!! phew..
We did have some great fishing with Codling up to 9 lbs and Roker to 7 lbs so all our guys went home as we like... very happy..!!!.
    Sunday 18th October.....
Well once again we departed Bradwell at 0700 sharp, this time we went direct to our fishing mark to get settled before all other boats descended upon us, and we kind of new we wouldn't get a great deal on the last of the ebb. but we would be set up ready for the flood...!!! and it panned out as predicted, we were the first vessel on site, so we choose our mark very carefully, and once settled, within 2 hours I counted 12 other various boats around us, so we were right to leave a tadd earlier...
Well once we started to fish we did get Whiting doggies and right at the bottom of the tide we had our first plump Codling... and when the tide started picking up all the boys we catching on Lug and squid cocktails, we had 4 or 5 decent Roker in the mix, and
Glenn who booked the trip said the wanted a double figure Cod, and he is a mustard angler I must say, and he was rewarded with just such a fish, a nice 10lbs Cod shame it had a few sours ..and right at the end of the session, he said.." I want just one more" and sure enough as the engines were fired up..... yap he got his last Codling around 4 lbs, so with all rods in. anchor stowed, we started our cruise home not rushing, as they had a lot of filleting to do, with as usual Nicola on hand to do a lot of their gutting and filleting for them... ah...!! she is a good girl, who, as I'm sure the boys would agree.....
Ok guys n Gal's that's it for now, if you want to get in on the action just Pick up the phone and book it...!! if you want to see what dates are available, either whole boat bookings, or individual places, look on CBUK. or just phone me on 07768306646........Tight lines

Well I said I would report back today...... well the wind didn't disappoint... 20 mph East nor east..Arrgh!!! but we opted for the river, and that also didn't disappoint..!! we have a lovely bunch of guys full of fun and banter, and good anglers to boot..!!

It wasn't long before the first Codling dropped over the side and they made up a nice mixed bag of quality Whiting and Codling.

    Top bananas...!!!!!

    Tight lines ya all........!!!

11 Oct 2015 by TERRY BATT

Well the weekend saw lots of east NEast wind..!! but most boats got out, on Saturday we went and although fishing was quite hard, most managed to turn in reasonable catches..

We made a very quick start on Saturday, with a Roker and a Codling coming to the boat in the first 10
minutes, I thought yes...! here we go, then not a lot for another hour, just doggies and whiting, which if I'm totally honest. I look around the boat, and see the guys pulling these, almost unwanted fish in, but with an air of subdued excitement, and think to myself some times, just some times when things are a little slow, these smaller fish do keep the rod tips nodding, and fill a very important gap while waiting for the bigger to come on.... well that's just my take on it.

But things did pick up, and we had some lovely Codling and Skate, and all went home happy, so much so, that my Sunday party which I was NOT HAPPY WITH....!!!!!! they put the phone down on me on Friday night, but got hold of the organizer on Saturday and came out with all the excuses in the world, but the truth was he forgot he made the booking and they just were not coming.....Aaaarrgh..! but..... every cloud has a silver lining?? the lovely guys I had out on Saturday, when they heard me talking to another skipper on the VHF radio, say I will not now be out tomorrow (Sunday) said to me... "is the Vanishing Point available tomorrow???" I said yes due to some plonker letting me down at the last minute..!! they said well we will take over the booking and come again tomorrow, and they did.

On Sunday the boy's from the day before, arrived rearing to go once again bringing with them £70.00 worht of prime Rib eyed steaks....yum yum..!!, and there was more wind on Sunday, and we were the only vessel to push on out, but in fairness all those that opted to stay in the River Blackwater were doing better than we were
so after a couple of hours trying different marks we also , to return to the Blackwater, and once the Codling started, it was really good fishing, lovely size Codling, and once again the boys went home very happy, and very full up after Nicola grilled their steaks for them...... see you next monthe guys, and thank you so much for saving our Sunday booking.... bless you...
    Tight lines....!!!!

Just a quick notice on my page to Skipper Trev who runs Girl Mandy, a highly respected charter boat, one of which I hear good things all the time, but after being badly let down on Sunday, by some arse who after saying on Saturday night he would be on the boat just didn't turn up...!!! God knows we have all had that, then you try to call them, and either they dont answer, or just press ignore, then you text, and no reply...

This is no joke people.... it's our living you are playing with, and I take my hat off to Trevor for not only naming and shaming this person, but has put his phone number out there so the rest of us don't get taken in by this individual.........

Well done Trev, I have his number in my phone as Twat, to remind me not to accept a call from his number... and I hope all skippers will do the same....Mr Michael Jacks 07851879733 is not welcome on Vanishing Point-2.......!!!

4 Oct 2015 by TERRY BATT

Many congratulations to Ron with a lovely 17 lbs Cod, a real character who catches real fish..!! well we stayed inside yesterday, and had a cracking day, first we dropped about 1 mile from the shore line, but realised even with 3 hours of ebb tide left, it just was not running hard enough to catch fish..so we pulled the anchor and move 1,75 miles South, into deeper water of the Wallet and we found the run we needed to fish properly...! it wasn't long before the first decent Roker came up and that started the trend, Nicola warned the guys not to keep to many unless they were able to deal with them, which none of them could, so I think they kept around 4 or 5 which Nic kindly gutted and skinned for them. We found as Ron accurately reported, the Codling were tightly bunched, and you were either on them or you weren't..!! and we found most bites were very shy, so Nicola got out her Rod baited with a whole Squid, and I said to the guys... I know who I am putting my money on...!!!! and within 7 or 8 minutes she popped a lovely Codling on the deck, and said to the boys.... "now that's the way to do it" and kindly gave the fish to one guy who was struggling a bit, so that made his day... ( bet he told his wife he caught it) but we did well enough, but around 11.20 am when the tide was on the turn, we did go back inside a mile off the shore line for the flood ,(we passed "Hard Labour" just getting ready for the flood so hopefully they did well, always nice to see the lads from the Crouch) ...! and yeah nice bit of run on the tide, and more Rokers and more decent Codling to 9.5 lbs... well after such a blinding weekend of weather, after all those Easterly winds of last week, looks as though we have some doggy weather to look forward to this week, but the saving grace is there are some good Codling in the river Blackwater now, fair bit of weed to unfortunately but hey... that goes with the territory ..we are out as from Wednesday onwards so will report in as the week unfolds.

Hi guys n gals.... well the wind continues to blow hard from the East making conditions very hard for our anglers.

But the die hard angler, not to be deterred still wanted to go out and have a go... ( Bless em) and to be fair they all fished hard and turned in a few Codling around 5 lbs and some Thornback rays Whiting and doggies so not a total disaster..!!!

Hoping for calmer weather for the weekend and see if we cant get some decent Cod over the gunnals...!!

Well first charter out the way today, big tides, 21 mph Easterly it was not our finest hour I am sad to report....We had a few Ray's this morning, Doggies by the bucket, and some Whiting, but sadly we didn't see any Codling, we tried hard but it sounded like most boats struggled and it wasn't just us, but still a hard pill to swallow when we normally do so well, but I think I should report bad days as well as the good ones, fortunately we don't have to many bad days..... sorry guys I did my best but cant control the weather...!! Tight lines..!!!!
