Good afternoon.... well we have been out with a new party today most seem to come from the London School of economics, what a lovely bunch of people..
New to sea fishing they were unfortunate with a lousy weather forecast, but made the best of it.
They listened very carefully to what we told them, and to be fair, they didn't hit every thing that looked like a bite, as instructed they called either me or Nicola if they thought there was a bite going on, and before you knew it ...

Hi everyone,
well since last we spoke, we went to sea on Friday 29th, yeah I know, 30 mph Westerly, gusting 45 mph, and we were Tope fishing, alas we didn't get any Tope runs but conditions were far from ideal, but the three guys that had vanishing Point booked knew that before we set sail, and still wanted to give it a go..!! hard old bunch.
Well we knew the boat could take it, if the anglers could, and they did...!! after a 1 hour steam at just over 20 knots, we arrived at the Tope mark, and dropped the anchor, and to be honest, even with the wind blowing at near gale force 7, we sat at anchor perfectly, for a couple of hours, with the wind and tide together, it was quite doable.
The lads had 3 other rods out for Smoothounds, which readily came to the Hermit crabs we picked up on the way out from our pot, and gave a good account of themselves, and sadly Paul Nichols lost a stunning Bass right under the boat, he kept saying, no..!! there is nothing there, after a ferocious take on his hound rod, then as his line got to the stern on the boat he caught up with it....!! a really big Bass was on the end, and as soon as he tried to tighten the line against the mighty fish, it had other ideas, and ran straight down and under the boat and snapped Paul up on the rudders or props??? but, there it was gone in an instance...
But as I say we stuck at it for 2 hours, then as forecast, a weather front started to move in from the West, and the wind picked up to server gale 9, so we thought it would be a wise move to come it a bit closer and get some lee from a sand bank nearer to home and swap Tope fishing, for Skate fishing, but the rain started, so Paul opted to have an early day, and head for the plough (Pub).
We did offer him some money back for the shortened day, but the gentleman he is, he insisted we kept all the money, and gave Nicola a £20. tip on top...! what a geezer..
Saturday 30th (yesterday) saw the winds die down from Friday, what a different day, a gentle SW breeze and conditions very much better.
So we gave the boys, (who part of a pub crowd of Peter Thaker from Thurrock near Lakeside), a choice, of what type of fishing they wanted to do, so we split the day into two halves, we did Smoothound fishing for the flood tide, and Skate fishing for the ebb tide, and there wasn't loads of hounds caught to be fair, as they are just starting to turn up at the closer marks, but they did get some nice rod benders and a show of things to come.
So with the flood done, we upped anchor, and headed for or Skate mark for the afternoon session, and we were not there long before the first one plopped over the side, then they started coming in at a nice steady pace, not manic like the past few trips, but more than enough to keep everyone happy..!!
Sunday 31st May, the last day of the month, and sadly the weather is forecast once again to hit gale force 8, so with 11 anglers booked on, and mostly novices, it seemed prudent to re-schedule the trip for a later date, but sadly for those guys, as they are restricted to weekends only, we don't have anything until July, people are just loving the new boat and cant get enough...... (me and Nicola are glad to say) but we fully appreciate even with such a fantastic vessel as vanishing Point-2 is..!! it would be nothing without you guys kindly booking it up, and making new adventure with us as a lot of you did over the last 25 years, from our beloved Vicky Emma, to Cacheflow, to Vanishing Point-1, and now to the biggest and best we have ever built the £700,000.00 Vanishing Point-2.
So Tight lines guys...!!!!!

Phew...!! what a day yesterday, (Sunday 24th May) a new party that have just started coming out with me, and few regulars... Hi John & Tim.. but what a really nice crowd of lads.
We have them the option of having a crack at the Smoothounds, but they opted to go for Skate, not a problem... !
After a 30 minute steam (I still cant believe how fast Vanishing Point-2 is) we were fishing on a mark we had fish for several days, but sadly when I arrived at the mark, there was a small private boat right on where I was fishing,Grrrrrrr!!! but never mind the sea is a big enough place without throwing my toys out of the pram.... so I picked another spot not far from where we had been fishing days before and after a little wait John Bryant got the first bite, and like the pro he is, sat on his hands until the fish decided to move off with his bait, and wallop, he wound into the fish and there was a real rod bender on..!!!
You Know it's funny, and I always smile when I say it...( it was from a great skipper out of Bradwell called Bob Cox) a master..!!! the thing I say, that makes me smile, and think of him is when I shout out to anglers... DON'T STRIKE WINED!!!!! Classic Bob Cox,
But after the last of the ebb tide finally died we went to pick up our pot and had a few Hermit Crab's in it, and that gave me time to reflect where we might fish for the flood tide, as the ebb was ok, but no where as good as the previous few days, but there was quite a few boats on the patch where I had been, a bit too busy, just bank holiday enthusiasts all getting a bit of the action.
So I pick out a new bit of ground to fish for the flood tide,so we were on our own, and nice and quiet, and it was not long before the rods started bending, and we were off..!! and it didn't stop until we pulled the anchor for home, and I think it's fair to say everyone had caught fish, and another boat full of happy customers..
Well after the end of the day, Nicola jet washed the boat as always, while I valeted the wheelhouse ready for the next party, but then it was back home to quickly get a bite to eat, wash change and out to Saint Lawrence Bay Inn, to Rock the joint till midnight, and even then they didn't want it to end yep I still got it...lol but it was a great day all round, and today is a rest day after 20 hours at my age........ I need a rest.....lol again
seriously though, there is a shed load of fish about, so if you want a trip on our SUPER CAT!!! start dialling..!! oh forgot to mention we boated around 50 Thornbacks once again yesterday, so well done guys you were fantastic, cant wait to see you all again next month,
Tight lines.....!!

What a day...!! total cock up on the forecast, but we fished through the wind and tide to have a great days fishing.
We had some regulars and to new guys from Hungry, and had never done sea fishing before, and they listened to what we had to tell them, and before you know it they were casting multiplier reels all by them self, and catching Thornback Rays one after the other..... Well done George and Ben..!!
Well with old friends Trevor, George, Ken, Paul, Dave & Andy...!! everyone fished together, and everyone helped each other, it was a terrific day had by all, I lost count toward the end of the day but we must have boated in the region of 50 Skate, with some kept, and lots returned.
Considering it was supposed to be the best day weather wise of the weekend, it sure was chilly in the North East wind....Burrrr..... but as I am writing this report, the sun is shinning, the wind has dropped away, so may be tomorrow will be the day we should have had today..!!!!
Well we will be doing the same for tomorrow and we might have a look for one or two hounds if the weather is right..!!

Hi Guys,
well we had a lovely day today, weather was fantastic, fishing was very good, plenty of Skate caught, Smoothound, and LSD's....
We did pop offshore for the first of the flood to see if we could connect with any Bass, but we didn't get any, didn't really have the right bait, no king rag, all we had was Hermit Crab, and squid, but that only threw up Roker and Hounds...
But we moved back inshore and carried on getting Skate.
Catch up soon guys..
Tight lines............!!

Well off early tomorrow, weather looking good for the next new few days..!!!
The plan is to pick up Hermit Crab pot we put out on Sunday, then depending what is or isn't in it will depend on what we do for the day.
I have had a few messages from friends of "Terry Batt Fishing" unknown personally, but now I have made their acquaintance by email, and I find a great comfort in what they had to say to me, so thank you guys, I really appreciate you contacting me with levels of support of that of old friends..!!! .
But looking at reports from other web-sites it sounds like the Hounds are starting to show up all over the place..!!.
I will let you know after tomorrows trip what we did, and what was the target species....

Just a quick update.... we now have our pots out to catch Hermit crabs so if all goes well over the next few days, Thursday is looking good on the weather front, so we may well go for Bass on the hard run of the tide, then when it backs off, we may put the Hermits to good use and have a crack at the hounds...
Thursdays trip is full now, but if you act quick we have just had 2 spaces become available on Saturday's trip.
Here is a tip if you are fishing off you own boat....... if you are fishing for Thornback Ray's, using squid and you are getting plagued with doggies, change your bait to Herring, and I doubt you will see one, we did this yesterday, and we didn't see a doggie all day.......... Yeah..!!!! for Herring.
Ok guys, very busy this week, but me and Nicola would just like to say a huge thank you for so many of you that are now coming back to us after being away for so long, and all the new parties that have seen us out in the Blackwater estuary and have made enquiries to book vanishing Point-2 up, that is GREAT...!!!! thanks everyone.....!!!
Tight lines............ see you soon!! -

Hi all,
well another good day had by my party to day, with a lot of fish boated..!! and looking to book up immediately for the rest of the summer..!!! Yay me..!!
I have heard on the grapevine, that someone (unknown to me) is doubting the posting I put on here on Wednesday, about the Smoothound fishing we had, apparently me and two pals, didn't catch 30 plus hounds up to 15lbs..!!!!! well either I am a liar, which I most certainly am not, or the more plausible scenario is...!! whoever is putting this about is clearly someone who is not capable of finding these fish for himself, so assumes like a twatt that no one else can find them, I think people shouldn't judge others by their own failings..... sad really.
But as I said earlier this week, if anyone want to fish for these lovely big hounds, I would be happy
( if you don't mind putting a little extra money in the pot for fuel) to take you to this undisclosed mark and give you a day to remember... They are there, I assure you...!!!

Hi Guys
we just had 12 novice angler on today, and they were just so pleased at the fact most had never been on a boat before, let alone fished from one..!!! but under the careful guidance of me and Nicola, they listened well and learned to wait for the bites, and they had over 40 Thornback rays and a lovely 4lbs Codling, so everyone went home happy..... just how we like it.
Tomorrow we will be targeting more Thornback Rays, and still looking for the odd Codling that are late leavers....!!!! along with the early Bass which are starting to get about...
Just a foot not: they returned most of the fish back to fight another day, fantastic..!!
Tight lines.....!
