    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

We managed a couple of days out on the Saxon Lady yesterday and the day before whilst we are still out of the water.
Lovely weather and some decent fishing too. The ground on the 9 mile and a couple of wrecks fishing pretty well. Most of the fish falling to the bait rigs.
Almost ready with ours now. Hoping to run the engines up tomorrow and maybe re-launch on Monday.
    Regards
    Rich

  • 11/03/2014 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

11 Mar 2014 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

What a day we had yesterday on the Wrecks, its the first day we have had a crack at them this year as we have been waiting for the conditions to fall into place.

We steamed just over an hour to our first wreck, its a wreck ive been wanting to get on for a while, my choice payed off for us as we enjoyed some brilliant sport on shads and bait on the last of the ebb tide. with everybody taking plenty of fish

The tide eased as we approached slack water and the fishing slowed down, we picked away steady then and carried on into the flood tide which wasnt pushing very hard. as it approached 2pm we started making tracks towards home, stopping at a couple of wrecks on the way taking more fish for the lads.

we finished up with between 90 & 100 fish today for the lads, the best angler taking 23.

Ash from York who fishes whitby regularly took the heaviest ling and cod of the day both fish touching double figures, well done mate the rest of the catch was made of plenty of cod in the 3lb to 6lb range

Pictured is Ash with the Bets cod of the day

  • 08/03/2014 Fishing Report by Les Jones on White Maiden II (Lymington, Hampshire)

8 Mar 2014 by Les Jones

    Report on-board White Maiden II

At last on Friday we had a decent forecast and a crew to go with it. The F6 SW was a bit too much in the morning so we fished comfortably in the Solent. See pictures referenced in Your Catches page.

Roy caught his first ever Ray, a cracking very well marked specimen 14lb Undulate Ray. The very nicely marked and protected Undulate Ray came at the end of the flood tide and was soon followed by Gavin's specimen 4lb 8oz Spotted Ray. Both Rays were released.

The lads also caught six dogfish and two Pout which was not too bad in an early March short session just down the Solent.

A point of interest was a huge container that was floating end up off Newtown. It was reported by another Charter Boat to the Coast Guard but they didn't seem too excited about it. Packs of Cigarettes were in the tide too.

Saturday was a better forecast again, so regular crew Trident SAC boarded White Maiden and we headed for the Needles Lighthouse only to carry on and duck behind the Shingles for the first couple of hours. It was a bit too bouncy 'outside' at the start of the day. This first mark was far too quiet so as the wind eased off we headed South and found two cracking fish with another nice Undulate Ray this time at 15lb 4oz for Steve and a big male 20lb Blonde Ray for Chris, both were released unharmed. Steve then caught a nice 6lb Small Eyed Ray and Chris a 5lb Thornback Ray which both were quickly dispatched and went home for dinner! Other species caught were a small Hound and a Conger and lots of Dogfish. It was good to see more nice Rays.

Sunday today, was a better forecast again so we pushed out about ten miles South of the Needles, a big ask for the beginner anglers but we went as a buddy boat to another Charter. The fishing was good but hard work pulling in some big fish up from 130'. David caught the Bull Huss, while the other pictures are of Tom who did very well with the best Undulate Ray at 17lb, plus a Blonde of 11lb and a few Congers the best weighed at 26lb but another lost, after tangling its hooks at the net which was easily 35lb. Steve had the biggest Conger weighed on the boat at 27lb. Steve and David are pictured below.

It was nice to get out and have a proper fish for three days in a row and the fishing was actually a bit better than expected.

Note that I also saw the first Mullet on Friday and a shoal of them on Saturday, that is early! Tightlines, Les

  • 03/2014 Fishing Report by jon old on High Flyer 2 (Great Yarmouth, Norfolk)

    Mar 2014 by jon old

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Lost yesterday Sat 8th due to strong winds again, stirred the sea up a bit for today Sunday 9th bit of swell still about keeping us inshore once again. The forcast of SW winds is wrong again straight southerly all day making wind against tide on the flood rather testing to say the least. With the anchor trying to fight the boat ,the swell building and the wind straight in our faces i thought the lads all done well today. Before the flood started we managed to pick up nice little sizeable codling, few whiting keepers, bit slower than i would have liked it to be honest. The flood brought another codling pictured here with Len, two spotty dogs, and more undersize codling and whiting so decided to finish off with a move back north which resluted in couple of nice flatties and yes more undersize codling and whiting! Probably just the time of year with a lot of small fish about, would like to mention numerous sizable whiting were returned along with the spotty dogs well done men nice to see a bit of conservation. Thanks to Jez for organizing his crew, Leo,Alex,Nick and Lee, and also to Ian,Tony,Gary and Greg first timers on the Flyer hope you enjoyed your day. Many thanks lads good to see few dogs getting about inshore , wont be long for the skate then the smoothies. Roll on the summer. All the best. Jon. (High Flyer)

  • 09/03/2014 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

9 Mar 2014 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

The inshore fishing here at Ramsgate is now improving with quality Skate in most areas, along with plenty of Codling, these fish are small but give us hope for the future. Smoothounds, Bass and Mackerel are arriving now and will offer fine sport over the next few months. Still lots of herring showing on the sounder so plenty of fodder for the large Bass that are heading our way, always on the lookout for an easy meal!
Herring has been the bait of choice for the Skate throughout the winter but as summer moves on they will be looking for mackerel.
Squid remains a good bait for most species and the Hounds are very partial to a whole one and when the water warms sufficiently the crabs will peel giving us more bait choice!
The school Bass will be shoaling on the banks, great fun on the feathers or Hokkie lures. Clear water is a must though and the winds we are getting can stir up the water, then the humble lugworm becomes the better bait!
The wreck fishing season starts soon and we will soon be out there drift fishing jellies and shads for the Cod, Pollack and Bass.
Still some weekend dates available and each Thursday for individuals, so dust off the rods and come fishing aboard Duke IV.
    Tight lines Bob
