    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

    14.09.2014.

Some real crappy weather here at the moment with even more to come. Typical, as it's the start of the late summer competition this weekend!!

Last day off with general anglers for the Shy Torque was last Sunday (8th)

A steady days work out on the rough ground on the 9 mile with some lovely ling showing. No monsters but a good number of fish to 12lbs were boated. Still not a great number of cod showing here but I'm sure things will improve on the cod front once the herring have disappeared, which will be in the next few weeks.

No days left in September now but we do still have a few dates left in October and early November before we get the boat lifted out of the water on the 12 November for a re-fit, with new engines for 2014.

Pictured is Daniel from Sedgefield Co Durham.

    Tight lines

  • 13/09/2013 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

13 Sep 2013 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

Autumn is definately here now, the Whiting are arriving in numbers, these fish are being followed by the large Bass as proved today by Hienric & crew over from Belgium on a fishing holiday aboard Duke IV.
Along with the Bass a good catch of Skate and Whiting kept the guys minds off the damp weather.
A run of Skate is the norm at this time of year, these fish are very welcome along with the winter Cod that should arrive inshore early next month.
Hienric landed todays Bass on a daisy chain of mackerel chunks with the fish taking a squid on the last hook. Shows its always worth trying something different, smiles all round when the Bass rolled into the net after a good scrap.
We have been landing the most superb Mackerel off Deal lately, these fish are feeding on sandeels, so prevelant at the moment. Great sport for the youngsters and the finest eating fish around.
The bait requirements for the day become easier in winter with Lug & squid for the Cod & Whiting and herring for the Skate. Cuttle can also prove useful for the better Cod, this bait is not the favourite food for the doggies so more likely to be there when the Cod turn up.
Still space available on Duke IV for groups or indivduals.
    Tight lines all, Bob.

Autumn Turbot and Brill Fishing on Ocean Warrior 3

Newhaven's Ocean Warrior 3 is still on the Turbot and the Brill with some outstanding results. Tomasz Lukaszewicz who had been given a gift voucher and never been sea fishing before had some nice Turbot and Brill. His biggest Brill was 8lb which was a good catch for his first time out.

The weather has been reasonable of late as we come to the end of the summer. We will stay on the Turbot and Brill for a little bit longer then back on the first run of Cod, which will be starting to show soon. I am looking forward to the first run of Cod coming, which will be in the next couple weeks. We will back fishing at anchor with the big Cod baits back on.

Ocean Warrior 3 still has spaces during the week if you fancy a days angling. Call Dave on 07966 377145 or check out the website at www.oceanwarrior3.com to see some of the latest catches.

    Report on-board Mistress

Following a successful day fishing the reefs here at Whitby on Sunday, taking a good few fish in to double figures, the best being 14lb 8oz, We had an evening trip booked with one of my regular anglers and his family. Marks kids are only young so to start with i suggested we have a crack at the uptiding to start with before going offshore for a few mackerel, seeing as I caught a few codlings from the shore the other night as well as getting plenty of bites.

We got bites withing a few minutes of settling into anchor, and took several codling around 40cm in length, then young Sam got a better bite which resulted in a nice codling which took the boat scales to 4lb 12oz, we got a few more fish, then decided to head for a few Mackerel to finish the session with.

All in all to say we only fished for around half an hour taking half a dozen codling was quite a good sign for the up coming uptiding season, which i believe will start early this year.

We are currently experiencing a big northerly & when it dies down and we get back to sea on Thursday I think we will get fish uptiding. I currently have no one booked on and only need three people to make it viable for the day, if you fancy having ago at some early season inshore codling, give me a buzz on 07977 436 903

    cheers

    Rich

  • 08/09/2013 Fishing Report by Roger Phillips on Che Sara Sara (Newquay, Cornwall)

    Report on-board Che Sara Sara

Lumpy old start to the day punching out through the waves to the 12 mile reef mark. The state of the tide and wind produced a lovely slow drift which soon had us into some nice pollock. The action was steady and at the end of the day we had well over 100 pollock 3lb to 8lb, 1 nice cod 8lb we dont see these very often, gurnard, ling and wrasse. Plenty of mackeral still about nice small bait size which were used to entise the pollock as well as sand eel, shads and rubber eels of various colours. The pollock were being caught on the first few turns and also maybe as far as 30 to 40 turns up good sport on light tackle very enjoyable day.

  • 09/2013 Fishing Report by Lyle Stantiford on Supanova II (Weymouth, Dorset)

    Sep 2013 by Lyle Stantiford

    Report on-board Supanova II

    Well well well...........

What a summer we are having!!! the wind just doesn't blow and the suns out! Loving it!

Just 2 lost days in the whole of August which for the last few years has been unheard of.

August historically can be a funny month with the fishing and this year proved to be one of those funny months.
Some goof]d fishing inshore with great Plaice fishing and bream along with some lovely undulates and Blondes but all this has been on the small tides. As soon as the tides have built the excitement grows for better Bream and Bass, well unfortunately throughout August apart from the odd Day this just didn't happen.

Some interesting days on this years Conger Comp with numbers greatly reduced on all boats than previous years. Maybe the cold winter is to blame???? This years winning eel was a cracker of 82lb with Supanova's best of 68lb falling to Phil Rogers.

The next neap tides after the conger comp saw us venture off to find some more congers with again mixed results on various wrecks, the highlight of this trip however was some amazing Bream fishing with around 30 fish landed and all but 2 fish were over 3lb, with the best of 4lb 14oz falling to Phil Dolan (pictured).

September sees competition time in weymouth so watch this space for updates.

Once again thanks to all who continue to support the port.

    Tight line,

    Lyle
