Lets just say some people had a better trip than others but on the whole most had several nice pollack.Putting in a few miles seems to be paying off as not much showing up on the inshore marks.Well done Dave great trip hope you enjoyed winning your cup.

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

    01.06.2013.

My old mate Nigel Hall and his mates joined us today from Richmondshire. They were joined by another couple of regulars on the boat from West Yorks, Graham Stansfield and Dave Taylor.

After the previous days result we went straight back to the "Wall" and fished pretty much the same as the day before.

No record breakers and no vast quantity but a steady picking resulted in around the 50 fish mark again. Twenty of these being Pollack to around 6lb.

Nigel ended up with 8 Cod and a Pollack. The best fish of the day fell to Dave Taylor from Bradford, a Cod of 6lb 6oz.

    Dave is pictured.

  • 31/05/2013 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

31 May 2013 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

    31.05.2013.

Bob Boyce and his group from Blackpool joined us today for their annual trip out of Whitby.

The coloured water still hindering the fishing on the inside marks here at Whitby, so we all had a chat about it and the decision was made to have a run offshore (yet again!!)

A couple of passes over a wreck on route produced nothing at all for the lads so we steamed on back to the "Wall"

After a steady 5 hours fishing the lads had managed a very respectful 50 fish. I say respectful, as some of the boats working the inside marks were returning without seeing a cod on board at all !

A very foggy day to say the least but the sea state was perfect. No sun tans but a very enjoyable day !

The lads are pictured with some of their fish, the best cod today going to John Elrick at exactly 10lbs.

  • 05/2013 Fishing Report by Lyle Stantiford on Supanova II (Weymouth, Dorset)

    May 2013 by Lyle Stantiford

    Report on-board Supanova II

With May now drawing to a close it has been a frantic month with only 5 days lost to weather the rest has been an exciting time with some decent runs at sea which has been a great relief after such a poor start to the year.

The wrecking has been consistent with plenty of Pollack, the arrival of the sand eels has made this a bit easier.
Plenty of decent doubles with the best a PB of 19lb for Dave Edwards.
Cod numbers have been a little down on this time last year but as things are about 5 weeks behind this should improve in the coming weeks.

The nice surprise has been the small tides bringing plenty of LIng which has been great to see and probably the best I have seen for 8-10 years.

Inshore has been a little patchy, the bigger tides has seen improved Turbot catches from April with the best of 16lb 12oz falling to Lloyd Rush. The odd Brill has appeared, Brill catches should improve in the coming months. Plaice has been cracking on the small tides but the larger tides have been more of a struggle.

This last week the first few Bream have appeared along with consistent numbers of Mackerel. This is the latest I have ever known the Mackerel turn up.

The three Channel islands in May were completed with steady fishing on each with one unfortunately being cut short to weather.

Turbot and Brill catches were generally in the 20-30 bracket each day with a 50/50 split between keepers and chuck backs.

The coming month should see Bream, Cod, more plaice and Flatys, Tope arrive in decent numbers inshore, with hopefully continued wrecking action with more Cod featuring.

On another note 2014 DIARY IS NOW OPEN. weekends are filling fast and also Channel islands trips too so get in quick for what you want. I know its early but people keep asking so I have done it.

Thanks again to those that continue to support Weymouth and us grateful skippers.

  • 29/05/2013 Fishing Report by Peter Davis on Warrior II (Looe, Cornwall)

29 May 2013 by Peter Davis

    Report on-board Warrior II

Hi All! So here we are nearly in June, and the fishing has been busy and the number of catches improving on each trip. Had a cracking 29lb cod this Sunday along with some nice Ling up to 14lb. We have had some good size whiting also, and the Congers are just starting to show.

We are still waiting for the water temperature to rise enough for the first Shark, and then the season will really kick in! The diary is very busy, and there are not many weekends left to book for the summer. I still have a few mid week days available so get booking now!

    Tight Lines! Pete

  • 29/05/2013 Fishing Report by TERRY BATT on Vanishing Point-2 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

29 May 2013 by TERRY BATT

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

The fishing has been very good just lately and many Thornback Rays are coming to the boat, and some really good Bass are showing up.

Smoothounds are a bit patchy, but this is due to the late rise in water temperature, and tobacco juice..

There have been a few big Tope caught , but again not bundles.

Things should improve after these big tides, and put a scattering of fish on the offshore marks, weather permitting....!!

  • 27/05/2013 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

27 May 2013 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

The weather and conditions, as Im sure you all have heard has been extremely disappointing so far this year.
This time last year we were catching fish by the boat load, and had a great start.

This year has to be the worst I can ever remember, saying that, the lads have still been keen to get to sea and try their hand, both saturday and sunday we travelled well off to some distant wrecks in the search of good fishing. Unbelievably the clarity was affected 25 miles + offshore following the last northerly sea.

both days saw us get our first mackerel of the season. we caught fish both day but not in any great numbers. sunday saw us boating a lot of mackerel. we still caught cod, pollock and coalie too.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On monday I only had a few lads booked on and the forecast was far from brilliant meaning we would have to stay inshore, with this in mind, we planned to uptide fish with the lads (absolutely unheard of by the end of may!) the tide was slack when we headed out so we fished on the soft ground until the tide got away fully, taking lots of dabs and whiting (just to keep the rod tips rattling). we moved as soon as the tide started and we managed a few cod, falling to fresh lug the lads had dug the day before.

the day was slow and we caught codlings most places we stopped on the hard ground, the first push of the flood saw a few codling falling to cart. we finished up with around ten codlings for the day between us hundreds of whiting and few dabs.

the water should clear out soon and the fishing should go ballistic judging by the feed marks everywhere

    Rich

    Report on-board Lady Grace

Today we went out for 3 hours with John and his son and 2 grandsons. Issac caught the first whiting and shortly after his brother caught one too, then Issac caught a dogfish which he thought was pretty cool and then his dad, Ellio, finished with a female skate before we headed in.
