I had my first trip of the year on Shy Torque due to the previous 2 been cancelled because of the weather, after a bit of a struggle to get some mackerel which were far and few between we set off to a wreck that Rich said it’s not been touched for a long time it was 20 miles from port. We started our first drift and I sent my baited muppets down to the bottom and bang I thought I’d dropped straight into the wreck but after I put a lot of pressure on the rod things started to move and it felt heavy after what felt like ages a huge cod emerged from under the boat well done to Fergus for getting it into the net every one on the boat couldn’t believe the size of it including me it turned out to be my personal best cod, after 50 years fishing at Whitby I managed to get a cod over 20lb the bait was only on the bottom for 5 seconds, the official weight was 23lb 6oz .this catch wouldn’t have been possible without the knowledge and skill of the skipper Rich Ward, we went on through the day with a steady catch of cod and ling. all in all it was a very good day. Thanks Rich. See you again soon……. Ivan.
Skippers Reponse: I knew you’d been fishing here for 50 years Ivan, with the great names of the past including Alan Boocock on Dawn Hunter.
I didn’t know however that your fish the other day was a PB!
A huge “well done” to you for your catch, especially considering how quick the drift was when you hooked it.
A skilful effort mate that many would have lost without a doubt.
Cheers

Another good day on Shy torque. Rich was on the ball as usual we fished some wrecks 21 miles off but there were a breeze that made fishing a bit difficult only a few cod were caught so he brought us in to try some rough ground that’s when the fishing got better with some decent sized cod coming in every one on the boat had plenty of fish for the freezer. Big thanks to Rich for a good day. I’m looking forward to the next trip Ivan.
Skippers Reponse: Thanks for the review Ivan.
Always a pleasure sailing with you Ivan. Pleased we had a nice picking in the end.
A lovely day all round.
Cheers

Had a great day out on the Sky-Torque yesterday, Rich kept us on the fish all day, listening to the radio chatter others weren't so lucky. First time out in Whitby for me and my lad David, but both enjoyed it and will be back soon highly recommended

Had a days wreck fishing on Shy Torque with Rich Ward during the summer festival. I’ve fished from Whitby on and off for over 40 years on a number of different boats and there is some very good and knowledgable skippers there but after seeing Rich at work he is certainly at the top of the list , his boat is kept immaculate, and there is lots of space to fish as you can use the full length of the boat whereas on other boats only the rear is fishable Rich worked hard sailing from wreck to wreck to find fish , to be honest the fishing was slow but everyone on board caught some fish for the table. I highly recommend anyone who’s into wreck fishing to try Shy Torque you won’t be disappointed.
Skippers Reponse: Thanks for the review Ivan. Sadly, the fishing the other day was a little slow but we always put 110% effort in at all times as you know. Always a pleasure to sail with you mate. See you next on the 2nd July.
Thanks
Rich
