THE FISHING
Renowned worldwide for it's quality sea fishing heritage, Scarborough on the beautiful Yorkshire coast is the ideal port to charter a boat for an angling trip.
Luckily for Scarborough there is many places to fish, most of these places we fish are Natural scars of rock, kelp beads, And generally really rough ground ideal for Cod and Pollock Fishing. there are many marks we fish some are only a few minutes away from the harbour and others can span up to filey brigg or ravenscar again two very good Cod and Pollock grounds.
Also close to Scarborough are many old ship wrecks, mainly ships that were sunk in the war, and some old trawlers. these wrecks can produce good Cod, Ling, Pollock, and Many other fish.

WE ARE THE ONLY CHARTER BOAT THAT OPERATES ALL YEAR AROUND FROM SCARBOROUGH.

Nick is a keen match angler fishing from the boat and the shore. Over many years he has fished in several Scarborough Clubs that he has gathered many trophies and prizes. As well as fishing Nick also enjoys gathering and digging his own bait to ensure he has the best possible bait.
Nick has worked aboard Skylark since 2012 taking passengers out, before then Nick fished on private angling vessels out of Scarborough harbour starting with his uncles boat the " Clare Louise a tremlett 21"
Whether you are a beginner or an expert, Nick with his lifelong knowledge of the area will take you to the best spots for a successful day’s fishing.
First and foremost Nick is an angler and admits to having a passion for bait fishing from the shore and the boat for Cod. During the summer Nick feels there is not any type of better fishing than catching Pollock on light tackle using lures. Obviously cod is the main target species of all the charter boats and we have had some excellent fish with both quality and quantity coming aboard
In 2015 Nick also started Skylark Tackle expanding the buissness into tackle and bait sales and also fabricating fishing equipment.

After loosing faith with fishing from Scarborough I should have followed previous reviews what a trip to be on. Friendly knowledgeable skipper who volunteers for his local RNLI and has a very high standard onboard. The booking was professional with all the information, terms and conditions sent across. The night before as promised we had the confirmation call, when onboard Nick gave a safety brief explaining all the situations making us feel really safe. Not the newest boats but it's really looked after and the skippers knowledge of the boat and area shows. I must of caught 45+ fish mainly 3 to 5lb cod.
I definitely will be coming back soon and thank you Nick for all the hard work you do. I nearly abandoned fishing from Scarborough after using 2 other companies.Skippers Reponse: Thank you for your review Tom, as you have seen we have been working hard to promote fishing in Scarborough. Fishing has it's good days and bad days, We always try our best no matter what! Hope you enjoyed the fillets and we look forward to seeing you again hopefully it's another productive day. Regards Nick

Fantastic experience from start to finish, went our wrecking on Monday and enjoyed it so much went back out on the Wednesday. Nick the skipper always put us on the fish, has a great selection of tackle/lures/rods & reels on board.
Great atmosphere and Nick incredibly knowledgeable with great watercraft. Can't recommend enough, from the experienced angler with all their own gear all the way to those with no gear who have never fished before.
Thanks for 2 cracking days fishing on the Skylark! -

Fishing Report by Nick Gough
6 Jul 2025 by Nick Gough
We ventured offside as the winds had dropped and with a neap tide it was ideal conditions a lot better stamp of fish caught with the majority of the cod being around the 3 to 5lb area.
The heaviest fish was a Ling weighing 8lb 8oz.
Experienced anglers seemed to have a huge advantage on this trip with less experienced struggling to get the bites. But after a lot of mentoring all the anglers got a few fish to keep. One angler managed to catch over 60lb of Cod, Ling and Pollock himself during the trip. -

Saturday 5th, we had a very strong offshore wind and we were forced to anchor the majority of the trip as the wind and tide together made the drift speed was immense. With us being anchored the anglers were bombarded with pouting and ballen wrasse. But amounts these weeks did get some good size Pollock.
Heaviest fish was a Pollock weight 7lb 2oz
We also had a good amount of codling and mackerel later in the day. -

8 hour trip today
As we left the harbour we passed a small Minke feeding.
Fishing was steady away with a good amount of cod coming aboard.
We even had a triple hookup weighing around 14lb in total.
As the tide turned unfortunately the winds picked up and we had wind with tide increasing the drift speed which slowed the fishing right off unfortunately.
As well as the cod the customers also caught a ling, a Pollock many pouting, whiting, and mackerel -

Well what a day.. two 6 hour trips with plenty of fish on both
First 6 hour trip we saw a good mixture of fish from cod, ling, coalfish, red gurnard, haddock, mackerel, whiting, pouting the majority of the catch was a good amount of cod from what you can see in the video.
Heaviest fish wasn't huge but plenty of fish around the 5lb area and best been 7lb at all but the amount certainly made up for that
2nd 6 hour trip was an absolute cod fest
With most of the fish taken on shads .there was also pouting and a few ling caught as well and similar stamp of fish to the first trip
