THE FISHING
Renowned worldwide for it's quality sea fishing heritage, Scarborough on the beautiful Yorkshire coast is the ideal port to charter a boat for an angling trip.
Luckily for Scarborough there is many places to fish, most of these places we fish are Natural scars of rock, kelp beads, And generally really rough ground ideal for Cod and Pollock Fishing. there are many marks we fish some are only a few minutes away from the harbour and others can span up to filey brigg or ravenscar again two very good Cod and Pollock grounds.
Also close to Scarborough are many old ship wrecks, mainly ships that were sunk in the war, and some old trawlers. these wrecks can produce good Cod, Ling, Pollock, and Many other fish.

WE ARE THE ONLY CHARTER BOAT THAT OPERATES ALL YEAR AROUND FROM SCARBOROUGH.

Nick is a keen match angler fishing from the boat and the shore. Over many years he has fished in several Scarborough Clubs that he has gathered many trophies and prizes. As well as fishing Nick also enjoys gathering and digging his own bait to ensure he has the best possible bait.
Nick has worked aboard Skylark since 2012 taking passengers out, before then Nick fished on private angling vessels out of Scarborough harbour starting with his uncles boat the " Clare Louise a tremlett 21"
Whether you are a beginner or an expert, Nick with his lifelong knowledge of the area will take you to the best spots for a successful day’s fishing.
First and foremost Nick is an angler and admits to having a passion for bait fishing from the shore and the boat for Cod. During the summer Nick feels there is not any type of better fishing than catching Pollock on light tackle using lures. Obviously cod is the main target species of all the charter boats and we have had some excellent fish with both quality and quantity coming aboard
In 2015 Nick also started Skylark Tackle expanding the buissness into tackle and bait sales and also fabricating fishing equipment.

Another amazing day with Skylark. Fishing started as soon as the lines hit the bottom a nice cod weighing just under 5lb.
Plenty of big mackerel all throughout the day with a good amount of pollock and codling.
Loads of other species caught.
What was nice to see was a skipper fishing with us and as soon as someone's rod bent over the skipper was there ready to help net.
This is my 2nd trip with Skylark in the last few months and I will be booking again.Skippers Reponse: Cheers Tomasz
We are always grateful for people's feedback, and hope to see you again soon -

After loosing faith with fishing from Scarborough I should have followed previous reviews what a trip to be on. Friendly knowledgeable skipper who volunteers for his local RNLI and has a very high standard onboard. The booking was professional with all the information, terms and conditions sent across. The night before as promised we had the confirmation call, when onboard Nick gave a safety brief explaining all the situations making us feel really safe. Not the newest boats but it's really looked after and the skippers knowledge of the boat and area shows. I must of caught 45+ fish mainly 3 to 5lb cod.
I definitely will be coming back soon and thank you Nick for all the hard work you do. I nearly abandoned fishing from Scarborough after using 2 other companies.Skippers Reponse: Thank you for your review Tom, as you have seen we have been working hard to promote fishing in Scarborough. Fishing has it's good days and bad days, We always try our best no matter what! Hope you enjoyed the fillets and we look forward to seeing you again hopefully it's another productive day. Regards Nick

Fantastic experience from start to finish, went our wrecking on Monday and enjoyed it so much went back out on the Wednesday. Nick the skipper always put us on the fish, has a great selection of tackle/lures/rods & reels on board.
Great atmosphere and Nick incredibly knowledgeable with great watercraft. Can't recommend enough, from the experienced angler with all their own gear all the way to those with no gear who have never fished before.
Thanks for 2 cracking days fishing on the Skylark! -

Fishing Report by Nick Gough
14 Aug 2025 by Nick Gough
Started off fishing close to the harbour producing whiting and mackerel
Travelled further afield with the anglers catching a few codling, mackerel, whiting, pouting a tub gurnard (we haven't caught one since 2014).
After fishing for a few hours the tides started to build so we anchored up.
Which produced more cod, a nice 5lb Pollock, a 5lb ling, loads more pouting, mackerel and several lesser spotted dogfish
Wildlife we had several sightings of bottle nose dolphins passing by, the occasional seal and pretty much every sea bird which can be seen this time of year.
Overall today the 8hr trip we turned into a species hunt having a go in the sands aswel which we hardly do.
Overall the customers had 11 different species. The young lad on the trip managed 8 different species himself which is a very good effort.
Overall the customers caught
cod, Pollock, ling, whiting, tub gurnard, mackerel, weaver, pouting, ballen wrasse, lesser spotted dogfish, and a dab
When we returned with the 8hr trip is was a swift swap over and back out again with a 3hr trip
As this pretty much followed on from the first trip catching mackerel, pouting, codling, and a cracking Pollock weighing 5lb 3oz -

Fishing Report by Nick Gough

Today we had a 8hr and 3hr trip
We started off running a few miles and fished on the drift with tides coming onto slack water.
Fishing was steady away catching a few small codling, mackerel and pouting.
As the tide increased we dropped anchor which produced a good selection of better fish.
Best fish today was a cracking 8lb 14oz Pollock caught by Alan.
This fish is the new heaviest fish of the month so far.
3hr trip
We started fishing some rock marks close to the harbour catching a selection of Whiting, mackerel, coalfish, and codling.
Overall everybody caught and had something to take home -

Fishing Report by Nick Gough
7 Aug 2025 by Nick Gough
First we had a 8hr trip starting at 8am
Winds were quite fresh off land but sea was finally flat after having quite alot of days ashore.
Headed out strait away found a good patch of mackerel with a mix of smallish Pollock showing.
First drift this morning on the Mackerel
As slack water approach we kept moving to try and get back on the fish again.
Best fish today and also taking the lead on the heaviest fish of August Competition was a Pollock weighing 7lb 1oz which is a good start.
Everybody caught something to keep with plenty to put back to fight another day.
On the trip plenty of seals and porpoise sighted.
3 hour trip leaving at 4pm
Was productive from the start with mackerel and Pollock been boated.
Overall everyone caught something to keep with majority of the anglers been new anglers.
Species caught over the two trips
Cod, Pollock, coalfish, ballen wrasse, pouting, whiting, and a weaver, -

First trip was a 8 hour leaving at 8am
Fishing was straight away with plenty of plump mackerel coming over the rails.
While fishing we had a small pod of bottle nose dolphins passing by.
Amongst the mackerel we saw a nice selection of cod and pollock also boated with loads returned retaining only the better fish.
3 hour trip leaving at 4pm
As soon as we arrived at the fishing location we had a Minke whale feeding close by.
First drop and nearly all the customers we strait into the mackerel and cod.
We watched the whale move further south across the North Bay we were shortly treated with 4 or 5 bottle nose dolphins heading north at speed.
On all the trips everyone caught a fish. The 3 hour trip is the first one we've ever had were we had whales, dolphins and a huge selection of sea birds flying around. -

A very long day for us today 3 trips back to back and lots of smiley faces.
Most of the customers today were new too angling and we managed to get them all a few fish.
Nothing huge but a few better size Cod and pollock.
Mackerel were quite patchy today probably the knock on effect of the recent northerly as some areas were quite coloured but we managed to find a few spots which were clear enough for the lures to work
Today felt like it should have been a species hunt as we had 11 different species.
Cod, Pollock, coalfish, mackerel, ballen wrasse, whiting, horse mackerel, weaver, whiting. Red gurnard,
As well as the fishing all 3 trips managed to see harbour porpoises pass by.
