Todays trip was a group of lads from WIRRAL PARTNERSHIP HOMES.
We met at the marina at 6 am the forecast was for it to blow a touch in the morning and then drop of in the afternoon.We loaded the lads with there gear and gave them there safety brief on how to put there lifejackets on etc and how to use the toilet.We then departed on the WPH adventure. We had planned to tope fish first but when we got to our mark the wind was blowing a touch too strong to fish how we wanted , So a plan B was needed we then headed some 18 miles out to sea into deeper water.The skipper did reasure them that not to panic they would all catch fish today.we drifted a few marks which gave us Cod, ling, pollack, pouting gurnard e.t.c.
Then we anchored another mark and added thornback rays to 10lb.bullhuss to 14lb.
Gurnard 4lb 13 oz doggies etc giving a total species count today of 14 different types of fish. one of the lads lost a big eel early on in the day but thats there for another day overall a great day had by all

21.6.11. Short trip, after the Thornback rays on the Pluckie bank in the river. 8 individuals booked, only one arrived on time (Daniel) rest arrived to late to go, so sailed with him only. Conditions a bit choppy with a 25 knot S.W wind. Fishing was slow to say the least, as we fished with large baits for the rays and doggies. The thornies didnt want to play out today so had to make do with the ever present L.S.D. P.S. can any one tell me when summer starts?

TUESDAY 14th JUNE
Fished over Liverpool Bay yesterday, with 10 novices and 1 guy who had fished before. Went to a mark and dropped the anchor, the lads began catching mackeral for bait and filling the buckets up. The guy who had fished before decided to stick a ground bait down and go for Tope.
It didnt take long for his rod to have a few bites then all of a sudden his line was stripped from his reel. Once he had hooked into the fish, and began reclaiming some of his line, we lowered the diver recovery lift so that it was above the water, but still easy to bring the fish in. When the fish eventually surfaced it was a decent Tope. Once on board we weighed it at 35lb. The guys had some photos taken and then it was released for another day.
After we decided to have a move further out and anchor another mark we have for conger. The lines were all out, when one of the group was shouting "fish on" so myself and Dave went to investigate, we found that he had hooked into a large fish. The fish didnt want to come up and it took 25mins just to get it to the surface. Once on the surface the diver lift was lowered again and the fish was brought aboard by Dave this time. The Tope was weighed in at 62lb, photographed and returned.
Also caught on the day were Grey gurnard, Red Gurnard, Tub Gurnard, Pollack, Pouting, Whiting, Mackeral. Doggies, Weevers.
Cracking day and remember these guys had never fished before and were using our equipment.

11.6.11. Trip by Mersey Pirates after the Smoothounds. Had a look outside for fresh Mackerel for bait, got a few so went to the smoothie mark, had a few but no doubles, best fish to Phil a 7lb and 6lb, but plenty of nice big Dabs, Whiting, L.S.D and a few Rays to keep the rest of the lads busy. See you in 2 weeks lads

SAT 11 JUNE
WE arrived at the marina at 7.15 am to be greeted by Tom and the trent lads. We loaded their gear on and proceeded into the lock. Whilst we where locking out into the Mersey, we discussed wheather they wanted to have a day Tope fishing and general bottom fishing or proceed some 35 miles out to a group of wrecks that we have to try our luck for cod on. The lads came back with buckets of shiny perks and wrecking gear so there was no question what they had in mind for our day. We told them that it would be about 1 hour 45 to the 1st wreck. When we arrived at the 1st wreck, i explained that Daz was in training so i was going to let him do 1st drift, so if he got it wrong that they would have to be patient. Daz set the boat up for the 1st drift and with in minutes the lads where shouting Fish on. Dave our other crew for the day was netting fish all over the boat with 5 or 6 cod landed on the 1st drift. We tried various marks and produced cod to 8.5lb, Ling and Pollack in total we caught 10 different species during the day. We had to drift of the mark so the lads could have a brew and dinner overall a good day.
We will be seeing the lads again soon

Hello Gary, Sean and Daz. We sailed out of the marina at around 10 .30am on June 4th to stunning views of the straights in North Wales with the weather being idyllic. None of our party had ever done any form of sea fishing before and were all unsure of what to do. The two crew on board put us all instantly at ease with their confidence in their boat, tackle and local fishing knowledge to the point that we all just sat back and enjoyed the ride. Life just couldn't get any better until of course we hit the fishing grounds. The two crew had all the fishing rigs set up and within 5 mins we were all fishing and catching almost straight away. Sean and Darren's work didn't end there, they worked tirelessly to keep us going, sorting tangles, demonstrating hooking techniques and most importantly unhooking fish which at one point became ludicrously frequent with as many as four to five fish being landed at once. The lads didn't once lose patience with us novices at all, which didn't go unnoticed within our party and served to improve our experience further. After a couple of hours we moved fishing grounds, which to be honest served as a welcome break from the frantic start and a chance to get some grub down your neck before starting again. Even when travelling Sean's work didn't stop, serving up hot drinks whilst Darren sailed the boat. Once arriving at the new grounds, battle again commenced with a hive of activity from the now slightly less amateurish novices that had arrived in the morning. The banter amongst the lads grew and grew as larger and larger fish were pulled on board with a sweep stake up for grabs to the winner. This eventually climaxed when big Dave pulled in a 13 1/2lb 'bull huss' (I think that's what they called it lol still a novice...) which although at the time we all thought anyone could be beat, but it ended up serving to be the winner. By late in the day we considered ourselves to be more experienced than the shark catcher from Jaws, while the Daz and Sean eased off and let us unhook and bait ourselves only giving help when called upon, which again enhanced our experience. The final flourish came late on with some large thornbacks being pulled aboard and stories being swapped about the ones that got away and the winner that never was.
Arriving back at the marina Gary was on hand dock side to make sure we had a great day and smiled knowingly at our stories of the Moby dick being landed. Back on dry land, battle hardened and punch drunk, we had all hoped for a monster tope but it weren't to be today but I can assure you we will be back to try again. Cracking day, cracking fishing, cracking boat and cracking lads, thanks for all you help and I'm sure we'll see you again soon as the talk is now of the cod season in the Mersey, they won't know what's hit them lol.

Skipper still hospitalised, so Sean(relief skipper) and usual crew Daz, took the trip.
Had a group of lads out fishing that had never fished before.
We went out and dropped the anchor, and straight away some of the lads were into mackeral. While the rest of the lads got there lines out a few of the guys carried on fishing for mackeral with the bait bucket being filled in no time. The guys had decided to do a pool for the first fish and heaviest fish. The pool began once everyone was bottom fishing so while we changed the rigs over everyone brought their lines in and rebaited. Once the pool had began everybody was into Thornbacks, the first thornback aboard was 7lb, so things could only get better.
As the day progressed more and more thornbacks were caught and the guy who had the 7lb Thornback thought he had won the pool, until one of the other guys hooked into a 10lb Bull Huss and the pool had changed hands again. After the BullHuss was brought in, more and more were caught wih each one getting bigger and bigger.
One of the group had a wire tope trace snapped by a considerably large fish.
As the trip went on more thornbacks and Bullhuss were pulled in and the pool winner turned out to be a 13lb 7 BullHuss. With the last 10mins in sight Pete thought he had hooked into the winner as his line was stripped from his reel, althought when he brought it up it turned out to be a 9lb Thornback which was coming up backwards.
In total over 30 Thornbacks, 22 Bullhuss, a spider crab, 60 Doggies, Couple of hundred mackeral, whiting and Dabs.
An absolutely fantastic day was had by all and hope to see them again soon. View Boats Page

Todays trip was run by the relief skipper Sean (Garys Brother) and usual crew member Daz, as Skipper Gary is in hospital.
Had a wrecking trip booked, went out to some of the offshore wrecks and had an enjoyable day when the sun came out and the water went like oil. Fish caught today included Pollack, whiting and Pouting. Good group of lads and hope to see them again soon. View Boats Page

30.5.11.Party of 9 Polish lads, what a cracking gang they were. Went looking for the smooties and bull huss. Tried a couple of marks but they didnt want to play out, but the ever present doggies made up for it, with dabs, whiting and small codling. Still a bit scruffy after the recent strong winds and a couple of the lads felt ill, so moved inshore to a plaice mark between some sand banks. Soon as the tide turned the flatties came on with a few nice plaice to 2lb, and loads of nice plump dads, whiting, doggies, gurnards and a few thornbacks to put a bend in the rods, finished off as a half decent trip. Just hope the wind gods give us a chance to put a few trips together.
