The Ling fishing on the wrecks is good. The Ling are coming on Squid and Mackerel baits. A Special mention to 70 year old Colin Gardiner who landed three Ling in successive drifts and had to have a sit down and get the skipper to make him a cup of tea to recover from all his efforts.Robert Wojnarowicz landed hid first ever Ling weighing in at 17Ib 12oz and his new Personal Best (pictured).

We tried our first serious session at anchor, of this year, on one of the wrecks today, on an midweek individual wreck trip. It was a great day to try it as the tides were small and mackerel are now prolific so fresh bait is easy to catch. A few ling to 9 lb fell to large baited hokkais or cod feathers, with the odd cod to 4 lb thrown in. Flappers and whole mackerel tempted a couple of congers and bull huss. Time for some drifting in the afternoon so we made our way further offshore. The wind freshened so fishing wasn't easy but the lads managed a few nice pollack and cod to 7 lb. Our species tally for the day was a respectable 10 consisting of mackerel, ling, conger, cod, pollack, coal fish, pouting, whiting, bull huss, dogfish. Pictured is a 6.5 lb cod.

The fishing today has been absolutely spot on again, we started out wrecking this morning with big baits for big fish, we got plenty of fish each drift, but not the size we were looking for!
We moved about and then some of the lads ran out of bait! we moved onto some ground to try and find mackerel in numbers all the lads did was start bringing cod in three at time! so we stayed a while and smashed them with the shads before moving away in search of mackerel.
We went all the way out to the 7 miles but had no drift, in the end we hit the 2nd slack water with pouting, coalies and a few odds and sods for bait! we moved inshore and suddenly found a few mackerel - at last!
The lads carried on bait fishing and i got stuck in getting them some bait, and it did the trick, we took a daily 2nd spot with a Ling 11lb 5oz, the same lad also got a nice cod around 10lb too, we lost a good one just shy of the gaff, we saw it estimated it to be around 15 / 16lb!
Its certainly the best show of mackerel we've had all year up till now, taking two thirds of a gorrilla tub.
With a good forecast tomorrow and small tides we'll be hoping to better our day and see a few better fish as they seem to be poking their noses out at last.

Fishing both inshore and offshore is excellent at the moment. Plenty of widespread mackerel have been caught this week providing perfect bait. On the offshore wrecks pollack fishing has been prolific with in excess of 150 fish the other day with a fair number between 7lb and 11lb. We also had a few cod up to 6lb and some coal fish.

Inshore fishing has also been very good with plenty of bull huss, a few tope and the first gurnard showing. The spring bloom is now dying and the water both inshore and offshore is clearing nicely. The photograph is from the Blind Veterans trip yesterday showing one of the lads with a nice tope. Summer is here! -

First day back at sea, after the latest blow here at whitby . We worked a few wrecks today as the tides are slack.

From the off the rods were pulled over as the cod smashed the #shads . As the drift slowed we went on to baits to try and coax a croc out, but we only managed a couple between 9lb & 10lb.
We finished on a high note on a wreck, for the last half hour, the cod were still going crazy for shads with every rod every drift getting fish.
