  • 07/2010 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Jul 2010 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

Following the glorious weather of April, May and June that saw My Way set sail on most days with settled seas and sunshine, July in contrast has been windy, dull and with every cloud more and more rain fell on our anglers.

Never the less, we have managed to get afloat and find solace somewhere, with the fish usually helping us enjoy another day afloat. Early July, it was simply scratching around for a variety of species. Our few Black Bream of the year started making an appearance early on, nothing of any great size, but still a little bit of sport on light gear.

Wrasse and inshore pollack, a firm favourite, have also proved to be a great hit once again. Slow to appear this year, the wrasse have started to become plentiful with ballan, corkwing, cuckoo and goldsinney wrasse all making an appearance, the rock cook tho still eluding My Way in 2010. Towards the end of July, the ballan sizes started increasing and reaching the 4lb mark

Sadly, the weather has often curtailed our trips to the deeps this month.
But when there the sport has been prolific with spurdog, huss and tope making an appearance on all of our trips to the deeper water. Reeling in a double figure shark, often over 40lb from 200foot of water really is an accomplishment, even the fittest and strongest among us require a rest after such an exhilarating fight.

Rays have been plentiful through July, nothing exceptional in ray size, but certainly plenty for the anglers to catch; with spotted and small blonde rays making up the majority, with the odd small blonde and a few bigger ones thrown in for good measure. Tope have also moved inshore, but these are often hit and miss and never really as predictable as in the deeper waters.

We have now finally got our tide files sorted for 2011 and bookings are already flowing in for a variety of species and tides. Please feel free to check out our availability for the remainder of 2010 and also 2011 and mail or call us to discuss your next trip.

Short and sweet today, Happy Fishing for August

  • 01/08/2010 Fishing Report by Dave Hunkin on Bessie Vee (Mevagissey, Cornwall)

1 Aug 2010 by Dave Hunkin

    Report on-board Bessie Vee

    Sunday, 1st August.
As some of the inshore wrecks are being overly frequented, took 2 hours to steam 30 miles looking for ling for this group. Slack water was at mid-day, so we managed to have time at anchor despite the fairly big tide.

Anchoring for the last of the flood-tide, fishing was quiet with two or three small ling and a couple of conger (with quite heavy loss of tackle)!

Things improved greatly on the ebb, with 30 fish caught, the best of which were ling at 26 and 24lb. All congers were returned successfully. We finished off the day with a few handy pollock on the drift, having managed five hours of fishing on a nine hour day.

  • 12/07/2010 Fishing Report by Ray Martin on PLAN B (Southend-On-Sea, Essex)

12 Jul 2010 by Ray Martin

    Report on-board PLAN B

Just a quick update as I am always far too busy to get these done!
Fishing over past month has been superb. Most days we are getting 20-30 hounds mostly around the 5-8lb mark and bass of around 2-3lb.
The last two trips have produced larger bass (due to a change of tactics and trying various baits)... Bass like some wierd combinations!
I have tried to avoid catching Roker (thornback ray) but they still keep coming... They will take anything it seems, Rag and squid cocktail is their favourite at the moment (meant for bass) .. they all seem to be about the same size (about 7LB).
The weed seems to be thining out now, so we should be able to fish the closer marks, so fingers crossed the big bass should start to show from now on...

  • 31/07/2010 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

31 Jul 2010 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

Excellent fishing here at Ramsgate with good Thornback Ray and Smoothounds. The big Bass have started to show with a fine pair weighing 8lb 12oz to Sam aged 15 who was in line to win the pool for the biggest fish of the day, some suggested that £40 might not best be paid to such a young lad when Dad Nigel weighed in with a last minute Bass of 12lb 4oz. Nice job Nigel! Both fish caught on mackerel fillet on Ramsgate charterboat Duke IV. See more pics on www.fishingramsgate.com
