    Report on-board Ocean explorer

First time out of Hartlepool and had excellent days fishing with Skipper Lee. One or two of my fellow anglers had unfortunately lost their sea-legs and much ground-baiting was done. First cod of the season caught on the new rod 7 1/2 pounds. Thanks again to Skipper Lee.

reports are filtering in that mackerel land herring are being landed at Port Logan, some 6 miles south of Portpatrick, so our summer species cant be far behind??

    Report on-board Dawn Venture

took a couple of the Essex boys out today and its apparent that we need the mackerel to arrive! we tried drifting and then freelining with sidewinders for Pollack which produced a couple in the 3lb bracket and finally anchoring with bait that produced a small codling and about 10 dogfish.

a couple of days previous we took about 30 coalies in the 1-1.5lb bracket and some small whiting

  • 21/04/2014 Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins on Just Mary (Christchurch, Dorset)

    Report on-board Just Mary

Having returned from abroad visiting family and friends and with 'Just Mary' having completed her Annual refit and New 5 year COP Survey, 12 Passengers and 2 Crew, (60 mile Cat 2. COP), we are all set for another season afloat. The weather still hasn't totally settled down but the English Channel Sea Temperature, (according to the Met Office MAWS network), is now consistently above the 'magic' ten degrees celsius (10c). This bodes well for our Black Bream season just so long as the forecasters get their recent predictions right and we are in for a warm settled spell this Summer ! As I look forward to the first of these trips this coming weekend I'm not sure when this predicted weather will start ! Still, as Anglers and Skippers we are always eternal optimists and I'm confident that we will see better days, and forecasts (!) to come. My Commercial mates have endured a long hard Winter but in recent weeks I have seen for myself the quality of fish in Poole Bay. The Winter has been mild even though we have seen some terrible prolonged wet and windy weather. This has meant that species like Bass have remained in the Bay for most of the Winter months alongside other more usual fish like Cod and Whiting. Plaice and Sole have been caught recently and the quality and numbers have slowly increased. 2013 produced some good catches of Plaice on rod and line after the netters had given up due to the numbers of Spider crabs ripping their nets to shreds, hopefully 2014 will be another good year for us on the Plaice. So the season will be properly underway soon and I wish you all a good Summer, All the Best, Malc, 'Just Mary', Poole.

    Mistress wins WCSA Spring Festival

Following another very successful angling festival here at Whitby, Mistress has secured yet another win for our anglers.

Mike Dearing from Beverley caught the winning fish a 20lb 7.5oz Cod on a 4" bright orange shad fished on his Daiwa Kenzaki 20/30 braid rod and slosh 30 reel.

The fish nets Mike a whopping £1050 in prize money - well done mate!

The next event for your diaries is the grand Summer Festival which runs between 21st June & 13th July. The top prize again this year is £5000.

    Report on-board Lucky Dip II

We had a couple of short charters out today and racked up 7 species including Huss, codling, haddock, whiting and LSDs too. Nothing of any real size but put smiles on everyones faces as two youngsters were new to fishing. The mackerel are not far away now and the wrecks seem to be filling up well. we have also had some success from close in using light weight tackle and various jellies! Happy days.

    Report on-board Sea Otter 2

Yesterday i had Glenn Hill and his group onboard they were on the east coast on glens stag do non of them had been boat fishing before and they just wanted a day on the water and to all catch a few fish .
We normally sail at 7am but glenn said they didnt want to start till 8am and said they didnt want to be out all day i did say it was probably going to be the last day in the spring festival the lads said put us in you never know you have to be in to win it true is the words.

I did give the lads the option of uptiding or wrecking they just said we dont want to go to far ok i know just where we will nail a few a 20 minuite steam from the harbour the lads had plenty of worm and squid which has been the prime bait this winter they had a little sweep amoung themselves my hope was they would all catch a nice few and that would make there day once again as it has been all winter the uptiding just keeps throwing fish out in numbers even this late in the year the fishing was steady and the lads were loving it .

The lads at the end of there fun session
