    Report on-board Sweet William

We made it out for the first time in while yesterday, expecting a decent day.

We were met with with an iced up boat, lightly iced marina, wind gusting way higher than forecast and an uncomfortable little south easterly swell with 4 second intervals.

After the big northerlies recently, we had a feeling the fish may be full to bursting, and threw the ropes early in the hope of finding some decent dawn codling on the inner grounds.

By the time the sun had risen, and it started to get lighter, nothing noteworthy had made an appearance so it was fairly clear they weren't feeding.

We tried everything to find them , hauling, moving and re-setting the anchor at least 6 or 7 times, headed north, south, exploring the normally productive grounds inside, checked some underwater skeers, looked slightly further off, and even had a run a good way out to see if they'd pushed off. Once we had wind against tide, we even tried a few inshore wrecks, hovering above them perfectly, with little more than the obligatory pouting and some small codling to show for the efforts. I'd say we took no more than a dozen fish all day.

We broke out a hot beef stew with tiger bread, washed down with tea and coffee to boost the morale just after midday, with the craic and banter being top tier thanks to Mark, Barry, Amelia, Archie, Nile, Craig and the lads.

Other than the fishing being slow, it was a great run out for this time of year, hopefully we get another couple of decent days soon once they're back on the feed.

Huge thanks to the lads for a run out today, with only 12 hours notice!

The weather this morning was calm, with a light breeze, incredible sunrise and flat seas. We were surrounded immediately by fins passing by on the way south, and then again as they headed back north shortly afterwards.

The fishing was slow but steady, with some nice codling coming aboard intermittently throughout the morning, and plenty of pan-sized whiting and big fat pouting for sport.

The wind began to pick up late morning, and by the time we reached slack water everything tailed off as expected.

We hauled anchor after a cracking day out to mark the first session this year, and headed for home shortly after lunch.

The First Mate bagged himself a nice brace of codling for his tea tonight, so he was pretty pleased with himself!

The bait of choice today were cocktails comprising monster cart wings from Billy's Fishing Tackle, squid and mackerel fillets.

We have availability this coming weekend 7th and 8th January 2023 (weather permitting); feel free to give us a call, or message, on 07740 706007 if you fancy a run out.

    Report on-board Mistress

After the gales on Friday, the sea was virtually flat and air was fairly warm in the sunshine. We set off a couple of miles to try a wreck. First drop we had a few coalies, then whiting and a couple of mackerel. Probably due to the warm weather we've had, there's still a few about. We picked a couple of cod up, but the boat was drifting about 1.5 knots making it difficult to fish, so we headed inshore to fish the ground. There was a fair few Cod around, mostly just size with some better ones mixed in, 3 to 4lb. Fishing was good all day and we had a lot of takes, including a few decent wrasse. Best fish of the day went to Tony, a Cod about the 6 lb mark. Best baits were cooked prawns and squid on pink hokkais.
