Fishing Report by Philip Higgins
on Mistress Linda (Poole, Dorset)

Report on-board Mistress Linda
Today we did a slow jig and surface popping day with a bit of Plaice and Turbot drifting over slack water, the 1st mark was not productive so we moved on and immediately hit Bass on the slow jig rods, every time a fish was landed we changed jigs to test colours , shapes etc and still caught Bass best one falling to Sean a very nice fish of 7lb. Biscay minnows also accounted for lots of fish and a bonus Ray. As the tide eased we changed to fresh baits and landed Turbot, Plaice, Dogs and small Tope then as the tide started to ebb we went into the shallows and drifted using surface poppers and free lined lures to great success landing plenty of small Pollack, Wrasse and the odd Bass. In all a bloody good fun day with lots of fish, the next slow jig / popping day will begin September if you fancy it please keep an eye on my website as the date will be posted there.

Report on-board Aries 3
General fishing in Weymouth Has been pretty steady.
View Boats Page
Wreck fishing has proved challenging with any notable catches coming on the spring tides species had been mainly pollock with the odd coal fish and cod.
Inshore has been pretty good with turbot and brill on the banks as well as rays , tope , spurs and the early bream showing up the east.
This year my aim is to encourage more light tackle fishing to really make the most of every fish hooked onboard for example bream on spinning gear and light weights as well as rays and flats conger and Huss on similar gear would be a brilliant scrap.
Dates still available on good tides and weekends. -

Its been a long time since I fished Beer, and i I was really looking forward to the whole Beer experience, from launching off the beach to being hauled back up on your return, it really just adds to the day. not to mention the fishing can be something special here, and you just never know what you might hook into.

Anyways the plan was to fish as light as possible with most of us hoping to fish with our LRF set ups, which we managed to do for most of the trip, stepping up from the normal 2 - 5g lead heads to using 20g weights to a couple ounces which the rods could easily handle but which made the fishing really hands on....and so much more fun when you get a fish...bait used was squid, mackerel, herring, sand eel and rag worm.
Have to admit it was a rather slow day, due in part to me picking too small a tide, and the dreaded bloom already in the water, but we carried on and it wasnt long before the banter was interupted by Ian jumping up as his rod bent over, this was followed by the usual questioning of "what is it then bud?" from all the other's, along with "cor your milking that dogfish mate," Then George called out he could see colour and it looks very breamy.....and we could not believe it, the first fish of the day was a lovely looking black bream.
Now we had the fish biting, and we started working on the species count...dogfish, whiting, grey gurnard, smoothhound, conger, black bream, and the then George caught something special, infact it was the main reason we had returned to Beer as it was the only place I had ever seen them caught, we had thought it would be too early for them but George called out he had a fish on and it was a male dragonette, and In my opinion the best looking fish we have in our waters, it would look more at home in a tropical sea than our cold water's.
For the last hour of the trip we steamed back inshore and had a drift over the sand to see if we could find any plaice, but it wasnt to be and before long it was time to call it a day and bring up our gear for the last time.
I am back out there again in a few weeks time with more trips booked up for later in the year, big thanks to Paul and look forward to fishing with you again soon....UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Lillie May

As the spring season starts we have had some fantastic weather, the fishing is improving with some nice catches of plaice are being landed and it will not be long before we start catching the very fiesty Black Sea Bream which size for size put up a great fight on the right gear, I am running plenty of midweek individual trips again this season so if you fancy a relaxed day fishing from Poole give me a call.

With the weather starting to improve the inshore Plaice fishing has got off to a awesome start with a great stamp of fish in quality condition. Yesterday saw us offshore anchoring with some decent sized congers and our first Tope of the year which is a good sign our summer species are just about to start and in the coming weeks hopefully we see the first of the Bream arrive on the inshore reefs.

After a very unsettled start to the month/ year the weather settled down allowing some fishing trips in very pleasant conditions.

The main target were whiting and they were around in big numbers. There were still a few big 2lb+ channels around but not as many as the excellent fishing of mid December.
Despite it being the middle of winter we saw a nice variety of species coming aboard including bass, small eyed and spotted rays, pouting, congers, dogfish and even a long Spined Sea Scorpion which attacked a bait as big as itself!
