    Report on-board Skylark

Had no Booking today So i decided to have a go for a couple of hours on the N E Corner, just off Marine Drive.

From the moment i got anchored and wet a line i got bites strait away and had my first fish out in less than 3 minutes not a massive cod but one ideal for the pan. re baited up and same again. had 5 fish out in the first hour then as the tide increased a bit more the fishing slowed down with hooks been stripped by crabs. i managed to get 3 crabs to the surface before they decided to let go of the bait.

managed to get another two cod out when the crabs decided to leave the bait alone long enough for a cod to sniff it out.

then when i decided i had enough for a couple of frys i wound in and found a dab layed on.

what a cracking few hours fishing .

3 hour trip and a double figure Cod!!!

water had turned back to soup after the short blow we had last week.
so it was back to bait fishing at anchor again.

a few minutes after dropping the anchor into the rough ground off Burniston one of the lads get a tiny rattle and wound in a tadpole fish. the first one we have seen this year, then after returning the fish to fight another day his rod just bent over double and when he lifted the rod he got a good nod on the rod. when he got the fish to the surface he couldn't believe his eyes his first ever cod and one weighing just less than 12 lb. at this point the other customers just couldn't understand why they hadn't even had a bite at this point.

then after half an hour a few more bites developed into smaller cod around the 3 lb mark, a lessor spotted dogfish (5th One we have had this year) and a few blegs.

many anglers are ringing and asking if "the mackerel are in"??
and unfortunately ,at the moment they are sporadic and spread thinly,we are averaging about 10 a trip providing we have water clarity, any hint of gloom and everything "switches off"
when good numbers on all trips are showing I will put up a report, there are plenty of fish around to make up for the lack of mackerel,...Pollack upto 8lb have been caught in the weeds
    Thanks
    Dominic

    Report on-board Just Mary

A good weekend of lovely neap tides meant that 'Plan A' swung into action and we pushed off to marks only really accessible and fishable to us on anchor with such 'slack' tides. Spring tides out there - forget it ! So Saturday started wet and the Sea was still unsettled from a three day blow but we knew conditions would improve with the midday low water. Mackerel hard to find but we had some frozen plus squid and ragworm and enough to make a start. Into fish from the drop as the tide was dying. A real monster, for one of my previous Anglers Myles from Poole, clung to the seabed and moved off uptide despite our efforts but with only a 20lb class rod, 30lb mono and mono 60lb trace (all hire gear) we were trying against the odds just to catch sight of it and after 40 minutes of struggle it came off. The heavy 6/0 had snapped on the curve of the hook ! I didn't need to see it to know what it was, it's happened before on this mark and one day we'll go after them properly. If you want to know then ask my mate Tom Greasty (San Gina II) to show you a picture of one nailed to Swanage Pier back in the non-conservation 60's. Ours will be tagged, photo, measured and released, and on the front cover of every Sea Angling mag in the Country, I can promise you that !
So back to our day ! Nine Anglers onboard and plenty of space ! Good Black Bream to 4lb were fairly constant and almost as regular as the doggies. Four Congers to 40lb, Smoothounds, and two nice Undulate Rays of 17lb 12oz to Mark the Coalman from Poole and Tom Whitcher, a Brickie, from Blandford with the biggest at 18lb 8oz. Only second trip with us by Tom who normally fishes for Carp, first trip 25lb Tope now this Undulate.....what next ? Well pleased to say he's back in a fortnight ! Good man.....he knows where to be !
Several other Rays never quite made it to the surface but that's life ! They get returned after a photo anyway so no harm done.
Sadly no Bass but that was probably due to the neaps and a lack of Mackerel, but lots of good fish with everyone catching and enjoying their day so just remember this, 'When the Skipper says 'You really should be on this trip.....then take note and book your place !'
We had a great time.....where were you ?

All the best, Malc. 'Just Mary', Poole.

Myself and 3 mates booked on the sapphire for Monday 9th June
When we arrived I asked Peter ,how many people where booked on the boat ,Peter replied only you four ,but I will still take you out ,which was great as due to lack of numbers he could have quite easily called the trip off.
As we set off , it was a lovely sunny day ,light winds and the sea was flat ,so hopefully a great day lay ahead
The first wrecks where very quiet only giving up 2 small Ling which went back .
Peter decided to move to a wreck approx 18 miles out ,what a great decision that turned out to be ,almost immediately ,the four rods bent over and for the next 2 to 3 hours Fish after fish came into the boat , all Cod ranged from approx 6 lb. upwards the heaviest being 13.lb. which actually snapped the guys rod .Ling from approx 7 lb. the heaviest being 13lb. Between the four of us approx 40 good fish came into the boat .four very happy people had a terrific days fishing ,if you fancy a trip out wreck fishing the Sapphire will give you this ,Peter also makes a cracking cup of coffee ,
You have to pay for the trip ,but the funny abuse and banter our free .I have had some great days fishing ,but this day is right up there with them ,I will certainly book up again
