    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

The last week here at Whitby has seen very mixed fortunes for our anglers.

Some days we have scratted around for very little indeed. Other days we have found a few. We are reckoning that this is due to the amount of feed in the water at present (millions of mackerel at the moment) The amount of Minke whales feeding is incredible.
On Tuesday last week we counted 30 at one point, all working in a 1 mile square. Hundreds of Gannets were also working the area too. It was like watching a Natural World programme on telly!

We have caught fish every time we have sailed but some days have been poor and others have been ok when we have got clear of the feed areas. (I do like to give a true and honest report of things)

Yesterday, we had one of our sponsors on board. Bob Ellis from "Focus Training"and his friend Richard chartered the boat just for themselves. With fantastic conditions we had a good run offshore for a change to see what things were like out there.
A slow start at first, but as the morning progressed the fishing came on really strong. By midday the lads had a couple of boxes of cod on board and at the end of the day they had over 200 lbs of fish!!

No big cod landed. The best fish falling to Richard at around 7 lbs.

A great days sport, great company and lovely weather too.

    Bob & Richard inset.

The September competition is fast approaching and starts on the 15th September. £1000.00 1st prize!!!!
We still have some availability on the boat.

    Dates with room are :-
    Monday 17th. Room for 1.
Wednesday 19th. Room for 7 (after cancellation)
    Tuesday 25th. Room for 9.
    Wednesday 28th. Room for 8.
    Thursday 27th. Room for 10.
    Friday 28th. Room for 8.

As ever, individuals are always very welcome on the boat.

    Cheers and tight lines

hi out over weekend plenty of tope about especially on sunday 8 landed with many break outs with larger fish. NOTE tope fishing off amlwch can be caught very close in due to the deep water so windy days can be quite productive . mackerel about but offshore 2 miles. reefs producing wrasse and Pollack if you have ragworms bit too windy for offshore wrecking at the moment due to wind speed but very large Pollack on wrecks this time of the year. wreck fishing with me for 10 hours is very reasonable ring for details

Few of these beauties showing now.
Channel warrior will be staying in the water this coming winter but will be coming out halfway through December until halfway through January for maintenance and clean up and being the shortest days thought that would be the best time to do it. So we will be there for the start of 2019 pollock season

    Report on-board Privateer

5 anglers fished our species match today, with the 5am start probably putting off a few travellers. As it turned out it was pleasantly warm and with the dazzling deck lights the guys were comfortable setting up as we steamed out to our first mark of the day. By the time the anchor was set we were all treated to the sun peeping over the horizon.

To the action, the theme of the day was set with 5 different species in the first fifteen minutes, all the anglers contributing and by the time the tide eased the score sheet was beginning to look quite busy .... As slack water approached we pulled anchor and moved onto the drifting. Wrasse fishing being a big favourite of mine. The next hour turned out to be quite difficult ... for no apparent reason, except maybe the excellent water clarity over the marks but some nice Ballan wrasse to about 3lb were caught, 15 between the anglers but poor cod, Mackerel, Gurnard and Codling made up the bulk of the action ... thats fishing so another move was made back onto anchor. Plenty of variety and the boys kept the scorer busy, maxing out on on a fair few species and adding a few more.

As time rolled on and after pasties and more tea, we moved to the final mark, picking up a couple more species including three small feisty Tope and some reasonable Smoothounds and decent Huss.

As the 'whistle' blew for the end of the match, it was hard to tell who was victorious ... but giving the hard working anglers time to tidy their tackle I went thru the score sheet, before heading for port.

With a max of ten of each species the five anglers, returned 280 scoring fish between them and 19 species :

Tub Gurnard, Dabs, Dogfish, Bull huss, Ballan Wrasse, goldsinny Wrasse, lesser weaver, Thornback ray, Codling, pouting, Poor cod, Grey Gurnard, Plaice, Dragonet, Ling, Mackerel, Whiting, Smooth hound and Tope.

The winner : Dewi Roberts who travelled across from Anglesey and scored 367 points and 14 species. Well done mate in a fun but competitive day you did the business

All in all an enjoyable day with plenty of fish and banter .... and it didn't even rain

    Report on-board Duke IV

Plenty of species off Ramsgate with Smoothounds heading back south while Whiting and maybe a few Cod heading north. Still catching good sized mackerel along with school Bass on feathers and hokkies while our live prawns are hooking up the hounds. We should see more thornback ray as autumn progresses while we are waiting on the large Bass that feed on the pin Whiting. Pic shows Jules who landed the Smoothie taken on live prawn.

    Report on-board Channel Warrior

Undulate rays seem to be on all the marks this year. Only seen the odd few over recent years yet this year they are in abundance.
Channel warrior will be staying in the water this winter 2018/2019. So I will be doing fishing trips through out the winter months with the exception of a few weeks for maintenance. Let’s just hope the weather will kind so we can get a few trips in
