    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

The last few trips offshore have been very fruitful indeed. The water remaining nice and clear any where from the 5 mile ground and out from there.
Pete Tamms from Leeds joined Mick Long, Billy and Martin from Bury the other day and enjoyed some super fishing on the 9 mile ground.
Here's hoping the weather stays nice for us and we can get some more good fishing in before Xmas.
If you are a group of 3 or more I will sail offshore whilst we don't have to travel a long way off and the water remains clear.
If there are only a couple of you I will also sail but the trip would be inshore at anchor.
    Pete Tamms is pictured.

  • 12/2014 Fishing Report by Adam Shaw on Warrior (Chichester, West Sussex)

    Dec 2014 by Adam Shaw

    Report on-board Warrior

Here we are at the end of another year, with only two weeks left until our last trip of 2014, it is time to sit down and evaluate the past few months.

2014 was our first season working out of Chichester Marina, this has worked well for both us and our customers, with the easy access to the boat, the free parking, and the cafe that has provided us with bacon or sausage baps in the mornings and a beer upon our return

After the winter gales and unsettled weather, our spring season got off to a good start. We had warmer sea temperatures, meaning the fish didn't need much encouragement to come inshore.
Our first few trips of the year we were fishing for rays. We found many rays, including Blondes, Undulates, Small eyed, Thornbacks and Spotted rays. None of them were massive however the biggest were a 14lb Undulate and a 10lb Small Eyed. There were still a few congers and cod around at the end of March and April, which added variety to our days fishing. The 3rd of April Saw our first couple of Bream landed on our first half day trip of the year, this was the start of our summer season.....

We had fantastic weather this year, it felt like a proper summer, and we had very few cancellations. The biggest problem, which was for everyone along the South coast, was the lack of mackerel. The marine biologists have put this down to the fact that there was a lack of plankton in the channel at the beginning of the year.
As there was not much mackerel showing, our half day trips saw us looking a little further afield. Our half day trip customers who come every year, were quite surprised as instead of mackerel they were catching other species such as Dogfish, rays, gurnard, bass, bream, tope and smoothounds with the odd mackerel thrown in.
The best day on mackerel saw just under 100 being landed with around about 30 bass.
On the upside we had a few customers achieve their personal bests on Blonde rays, undulates, conger, bass, tope and brill. The boat had 2 new records, which were the biggest conger of 75lb, and two days of around about 70 tope each day.

At the end of August we saw our first run of codling and whiting, they were quite small, but still very nice to see that early on in the year.
September was a slow, hard month, with not much showing apart from the odd small codling or whiting.
We had a good few days in October with the best day landing 68 sizable bass., and the second best day landing 30 bass. We also had our best day on the rays, with 11 landed in 2 hours, the biggest being a 17lb undulate.

The winter fishing has seen us catching a lot of little whiting, the odd codling and a few rays. However Adam and I have both had 18lb cod on the boat, which has made us feel a little better.
So overall this year was disappointing, but with the abundance of codling, it has made us look forward to next year already.

As we say though, a bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.

We will be keeping one boat in the water until late January, so if you fancy catching a big cod, then please contact Adam on 07900 086085.

We look forward to seeing you all next year.

  • 03/12/2014 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

3 Dec 2014 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

Plenty of fish out of Ramsgate for now with Whiting, Doggies, Skate and Codling, still around are Bass and Smoothounds. Lots of bait needed as these fish are hungry.
Chris' group had a good day on Saturday with 8 Skate to 9lb along with lots of Whiting to 2lb Codling, Bass and a small Hound.
December through January is the time for better Cod so big baits of squid or cuttle are worth trying, dont forget the herring though as the Skate will stay around throughout the winter.
Wrap up warm, bring plenty of bait and enjoy a days fishing with plenty of fish although not all as large as we would like.
    Pic shows Chris' group Saturday.

  • 11/2014 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

    Nov 2014 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

    November 2014
Its been a while since my last report on CBUK but its been a busy few months aboard the ‘Galloper’. Autumn has been kind to us with loads of codling about to provide us with great sport and all on our door step. The river blackwater has often fished as well or better than marks further afield with loads of codling and whiting coming out along with thornback rays and other bits and bobs. The numbers of codling have been the best I’ve ever seen in there which can only be a good thing. With the fishing being so good in the shelter of the estuary we have lost very few days to bad weather. That’s a bonus to our customers saving them from having to re-organise several anglers to another date that suits them. Its not many ports that can provide catches of 30-60 codling a trip in conditions that force many poor souls to cancel.
We haven’t spent all of our time in the river though and when we get further afield there are still numbers of rays showing. This isn’t uncommon nowadays and is helped by the mild weather. I will also add that I think the mild weather doesn’t have a negative effect on the cod fishing. This seasons numbers prove that to my mind with a mild autumn and great numbers of fish about.
Even further offshore has been a bit of a dogfest so far but our last trip was a little more promising and all credit to those who keep putting the effort in as that’s the best way to get results. I have a few spaces on various trips before the new year and plenty available in 2015 for more information, available dates or regular reports please visit my website. www.essexseafishing.co.uk

  • 11/2014 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    Nov 2014 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

After a couple of weeks break to allow time to spend with the new arrival to my family I was happy to get back to Sea to do the last couple of trips for 2014 as the boat is now out of the water for her annual scrub and tidy up ready and primed for the 2015 season.

The fishing on the trips were good with plenty of Pollock and some drifts taking 11 Pollock to 9 rods with everyone in at the same time, this made me very busy and not able to take many pictures but I did my best.
Average size was around 5/8lb mark but with some nice double figured ones in the mix, other catches were a number of small Bass, a few Cod and a ling along with a late mackerel and plenty of pouting.

I would like to thank you all who have come on board Spot On this year and look forward to many more trips with you all in 2015 and supporting Brixham and Spot On.

Remember there is only one Spot On in Brixham and is the only boat to consistently bring you great results and catches that other boats simply dream of, just look at the others for yourself.

Just look at the gallery and see this years catches and find another boat who can match it!

Pictured is Marcin with his fine November Pollock of 15lb 2oz.

  • 11/2014 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Nov 2014 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

Some great sport on the water recently, Holyhead may not set the world alight with big cod as seen on the south coast regular, but a mixture of species and a fun time can always be enjoyed. Saturday 22nd November and we had our latest fun match, each fish caught is rewarded either 1, 2 or 3 points depending on it’s scarcity.

We had a good mix of anglers aboard My Way from regulars to a few lads new to Anglesey fishing. Thankfully a good time was had by all with a varied selection of fish. The vast majority of scores came from dogfish and whiting with huss and a few other species at anchor. We also had a good few pollack on the drift supplemented by both ballan and cuckoo wrasse.

Eventual winner with the highest points was My Way regular and local rod Mark Dolben, after streaking to an impressive lead in the morning with double and treble shots Mark then fished large for a few huss as the afternoon passed by.
Second was Karl from Yarmouth, on an annual angling pilgrimage with good friend Pat. Great fishing from someone new to the area and not too well versed with our tactics here, with double and triple shots falling to his baits, he finished a mere 1 point behind Mark.

For his efforts Mark won a Gift Voucher for another full day aboard My Way :D

    Report on-board Cleveland Princess

With the winds finally dropping David and his freinds had a trip out that every one would like with the seas just about flat the sun came out and the fishing was spot on with 9 Rooker the best coming in at 9lb6oz and plenty of small Cod and a sprinkling of Whiting with a few fat Dabs what a cracking day,we started off on a mark that ive been to a few time in the last few weeks and it has allways given up some Rooker and the odd Cod early in the season and today was no exception 5 Rooker and 2 Cod and a good few Whiting mostly went back only the better fish were kept,at 1300 we had a move inside to another area that ive found pretty clean after a poke around we got the pick in and with a nice lot of marks showing it was not long before we were getting the Cod in all though they are small fish it was nice to see so many the boys kept quite a few of the 44cm-48cm size unless they were gut hooked they were certinly hungry best baits were fresh lug and squid strip mix the Rooker were taking this combo as well with the best fish going to Tim and only 300yds off the beach, well you boys hope you enjoy your fish and look forward to seeing you all again soon.i will get photo on when i pick camera up from boat.

30 Nov 2014 by Ray Martin

    Report on-board PLAN B

The cod have arrived in big numbers. No large ones yet but plenty of 2-4lb fish with the odd thornback ray making an appearance.
Boats are regularly getting over 30 codling keepers and 50 or more whiting
Squid and lug cocktails doing the damage.

I have a few dates left this year and early next year is filling fast.
