    Report on-board Skylark

Fishing the First match of the Scarborough Boat Angling Club today.
the The Monkman and Ridehalgh Memorial Match.

Only had the two lads fishing today, as the forecast wasn't brilliant and the other lads booked didn't want to risk driving through encase the trip had to be cancelled.

its was drisly and gray most of the day but all of us had a good days fishing with a good few Mops. Bernard managed to get a cracking conger weighing 13lb un-gutted which was great to see for the land rock.

Bernard manged to get 1st place in the match and the skipper manged to get 4th with a 5lb Cod. unfortunately Mike fillet all his fish on the journey back but if he waited until the weigh in he would of managed 5th place.

a great way to start the new season. and well done Bernard and all the other who fished the match.

Great 3hr fishing trip today aboard Lady Grace, a total of 9 codling and a few whiting. Jess caught the most with 3 codling showing Alex and Joe how it was done. They both had one each too and mum and dad's caught the rest. Lucky one of the dad's is a chef so guess what they are all having for tea tonight! Report on-board Mistress

The fishing has been nothing short of excellent here at Whitby recently, boats pushing offshore have been doing well as have the boats staying inshore uptiding.

We managed a red letter day this week after being tied up due to the weather. The 5 lads amassing 75-80 cod to keep for the day between them. throwing back many fish under 40cm.
Its good to see the lads doing their bit for conservation.

We have seen some cracking days this last few weeks, and also a mixture of species, including, cod, ling, pouting, whiting, lsd, bullhuss, thornback ray, ballan wrasse and even reports of a small conger from another boat.

    winter prospects certainly looking good

    Report on-board Cleveland Princess

With conditions not the best it was off to snag ally with the party on Wednesday19th i must say iam not a great lover of this area as i have mentioned from time to time but when conditions are so that its not good to try and get off and what fish there is at the moment you have to bite the bullet never mind we had fish from the start all though they are a bit on the small side there is allways that chance of a decent one as we found 2 weeks ago with a 6lb8oz and 5lb4oz coming in over that weekend and last sunday rob on katy picked up a 7lber so there is some about its a bit of a lottery but if things go well in the next few weeks i can see a steady improvement in size as these bigger fish will appear when you least expect them to and in areas that are not normally assosiated with them so keep plugging away and that biggy will surely find your bait,i hope you all enjoyed your day out with us and look forward to seeing you all again soon, this picture is from Saturdays trip15th with Mike and Darren holding up the Rooker best was 9lb5oz well done Mike we didont expect to see them,BP.

  • 20/11/2014 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

20 Nov 2014 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

The winter cod season is well underway now with the first cod hitting the deck on October 25th for Martin Lewis weighing in at 21lb. Since then we haven’t enjoyed the best of weather only managing a couple of trips a week due to southerly winds and the temperature has yet to drop which is key to a good days cod fishing. In between cod we have enjoyed plenty of congers, rays, spur dogs, bull huss and whiting. Paul Hathaway pulled up a monster of an eel over slack water one day at the end of October, the fish really fighting every inch of the way. We eventually managed to roll it up into the big landing net and had it aboard but unfortunately it was too rough to weigh it. We estimated it to be around 65lb. You always know the season is properly underway when it’s time for the Lowrance British Cod Championships down in Lymington. Due to poor numbers this year it looked like we wouldn’t be needed up until the last minute when a mechanical problem forced another boat to drop out. Both days saw up to 30knots of south/south-easterly wind so we fished in Solent. The first day was just a practice for us as we didn’t manage a decent bite at all but we more than made up for it on the second. Fishing a different area the lads managed 13 cod throughout the day up to 7lb. They may not have been the biggest of fish but it was good enough to see Clive Webb into second place overall with 5 fish weighing in at 21lb all together. The most effective rigs were 3 down flowing traces with 4/0 hooks baited with lug worm and a squid head, I’m so used to fishing big all the time for cod so it was interesting to see a different technique produce such results. It may sound odd but I’m looking forward to it getting colder soon so we can see more cod turn up down in Poole Bay

Fishing in November has continued to provide some excellent sport with some very good catches of codling up to 3lb with the odd better fish, lugworm and squid cocktails attracting the most attention. Several rays ,whiting and dogfish helping to keep the rods busy all day. Check out the website or give me a call for some great Christmas deals.
