    Report on-board Gwen-Paul-M

The weather and fishing over the last few weeks have been challenging to say the least.

Today however bucked the trend. Glassy seas, great fishing and a good bunch of lads led to a very enjoyable day. Having tried ground fishing on their last trip the lads wanted to have a go on the wrecks. A day mostly spent at anchor, due to the small tide, meant gear losses, for an inexperienced crew, were kept to a minimum. We fished a couple of wrecks inshore and fishing was very steady all day, with notable catches of a 6lb cod and an 8lb ling. We racked up 12 species and the lads had a lovely mixed box of fish to take back to their local pub near Bala to be cooked for them this evening.

I have room on two trips at the moment, 10 hours wreck fishing on 17th September and an 8 hour ground fishing trip on 28th September.

I also have space for two on a three day Ireland trip on 2nd-4th October.

    Cheers, Carl.

    Report on-board Supreme

Some fantastic fishing so far in September after a poor August that saw us sail 8 times only due to the north west and westerly winds .
Had a group on today from Birmingham their first time on Supreme what a great day it turned out to be plenty of good sized Mackerel for the bait box then we added another 15 species to to make the total 16 for the day .
the count included 10 Thornback to 10lb .

Still have a few spaces left for September

    Remember no bull just results

  • 08/2014 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Aug 2014 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

Species caught: Pollack, Cod, Whiting, Mackerel, Pouting, Red, Sapphirine, Gray, and Tub Gurnard, Sprat, Weaver, Launce, Bullhuss, Dogfish, Ballan Wrasse, Scad and Dab.

Not many skippers are honest and I think I am too honest for my own good sometimes. August was one of the worst months I can ever remember in Liverpool Bay. This was due to all the bad weather we have had, we only managed 5 days at sea. When we did get out the water was very murky with only 6ft visibility at best. This made the Mackerel hard to find for bait, and the wreck fishing was very hard with only 15 to 20 sizeable fish per trip.

All we need is a week of nice weather in September and the fishing will be back to it’s best.

    Notable Charters

On August 5th, I had a group of nine anglers who wanted to target the wrecks and rough ground.

Fishing was very poor and we done a lot of miles to find just a few fish. Visibility was also very poor, but here is what they caught:

    15 Pollack to 7lb 5oz,
    3 Cod to 3lb,
Mackerel, Tub Gurnard, Gray Gurnard and Pouting.

On August 8th, I had a group of inexperienced lads onboard. The plan was to go fishing for Rays, Huss and Tope. But the mackerel where very hard to find, so we decided to change the plan and just drift the roughy ground with baited fathers and jelly worms. They caught:

Pollack to 3lb, Codling, Dab, Ballan Wrasse, Red Gurnard, Tub Gurnard, Gray Gurnard, Sapphire Gurnard, Dogfish, Bull Huss, Sandeel, Whiting, Weaver and Mackerel.

Also during August Kevin went on a fishing holiday to Norway with his fishing club Bold S.A.C. He caught a monster 290lb Halibut, that Kevin fought for over 40 minutes on Shimano 30lb class rod and an Accurate 400 reel loaded with 50lb Berkley braid. Not only did he catch the Skjervoy Fishing Camp record Halibut, but it is also thought to be the biggest ever landed by a UK angler.

Fish of the month winner goes to Dez Baskavill for his 14lb 10oz Bullhuss, caught on his first trip on board Brigand. We done Dez you win a free individual trip to use whenever you wish.

  • 08/2014 Fishing Report by Adam Shaw on Warrior (Chichester, West Sussex)

    Aug 2014 by Adam Shaw

    Report on-board Warrior

August has come and gone in the blink of an eye, and I must admit, it has been a tough one.
At the beginning of the month, the mackerel were showing an average of one per day, increasing to around 7-8 a day average by the end of the month. This made our half days a little more difficult. Thankfully, the harbour has produced a nice number of fish for us this summer and has saved the day on many occasions. Instead of drifting for mackerel for our trips we were anchoring up and finding a whole new variety of species for our beginners. We found ourselves relying on catching dogfish, smoothound and the odd ray amongst other species on most days.
Our full days gave a good opportunity to go further afield. This month has thrown a few nice fish our way including a 4 and half lb Brill, 26lb Blonde Ray, and lots of double figure bass, 12lb being the biggest. Of course this was a very welcoming sight and has made all the hard work pay off.
A few species that were a nice surprise in August were Gilthead Bream, Silver eel and Squid, all coming to worm Baits.
The best part of the last week has been the very welcoming sight of mackerel, with our best day being 95 in an hour, this was our best mackerel trip of the year so far. Also the amount of shoal bass that has turned up has been phenomenal and nice to see, giving us something to have a play with on our way in and out on trips.
Overall a very productive month considering the slow start we had. Our half days are now coming to an end, however they are still available on a charter basis, and throughout the October Half Term.

  • 04/09/2014 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

4 Sep 2014 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

The Belgium fishing club have just left to return home with their freezer quite full of fish, the majority of which were Skate along with Bass, Hounds, Whiting and Dogfish, apparently a favoured fish in Belgium.
The Mackerel are thinning out being replaced by Whiting so we know winter is on the way, the cooling water should bring in Codling along with Skate that are around in good numbers now.
Bass will be around until November as they migrate South to warmer water so plenty to catch, we just need the weather to stay fair to get out there after them and we are planning to keep fishing through the winter so call to book your trip.
Pic shows Skate for the Belgium boys!
    Tight lines Bob Duke IV
